A little before I found this song I was going through some stuff with my self image and my happiness levals. I was rapidly losing weight and was gaining depression, and Declan was one of the few things that made life better. I listened to this whole song when I first heard it, and within two seconds I was crying. The day before someone looked at me and said, "What ever happened to Bright Eyes?" I felt so lost...Declan helped me be found.

The original "Bright Eyes", sung by Art Garfunkel and written by Mike Batt, was bittersweet lyrically & musically. The song's lyrics (even if half understood) are a poetic wonderment of life transitioning to death - lyrics that when sung by a "young boy" would lose meaning and value.

Listening to a teen pop star do a cover of "Bright Eyes" is an absolute travesty.

The more noble thing for Declan to have done was create his own song of the same depth, and not cash in off a cover.

@ptreno6 I think his version has every bit of meaning and value, just because he is a young boy doesn't mean he can't understand. Sure maybe the original song-writers and singers have more understanding, but I think Declan's song is every bit as good. At least he can sing things of meaning rather than those other teen pop stars who just sing about girls, party, and love.

God has blessed Declan with a wonderful voice and good looks! He captures this song the best of the other singers I've heard thus far even if Art Garfunkel did it first (look for the clip of a boy named Jordon, he does this song and he's good).

This song is emotional and kind of haunting. It reminds me of people who don't know Jesus Christ as their personal savior how they may view the death of a loved one. Those who are saved look forward to death: we'll be with the Lord! :)
