damn, when i saw them sitting down with one glove at hand, I thought they were going to get each other while sitting at the table.

It would make this sport a litle more exciting if you can get hit your opponent at anytime during the match, kinda like trying to defend yourself while you're thinking of your strategy. Kinda puts more stress into the game...lol

But I guess this way,y ou have to be good at two things, rather than just one....lol

I think you're missing the point. If you knock your opponent out in the ring then the chess-boxing match is over, although technically the chess game is still in progress. Same if you make check-mate, you wouldn't have to go back in the ring,because you have already won. So, in fact it's not possible to lose both disciplines simultaneously.
