  • POW!!! Just been hit by the rock train trio.

  • Thanx to the uplaoder. Many thanks

  • I actually hadnt't looked at anybody elses thoughts until the music was over. I will say it. Clapton ,Page, and Beck were all in the Yardbirds, ( not entirely all together) .Beck has shined and perserverered and bunched the lights out throughout these years. Remember his TRUTH album?

  • As pointed out above, Appice and Bogart MUST BE SPECTACULAR in order to keep upl with BECKOLA

  • Same thing with Jimmie Page

  • Clapton? Who is Claplon? Clapton left The Yardbirds before he got embarassed by Beck .

  • I must applaud the uploader. I'm in Pork Pie Hat Heaven

  • I have not seen this vid before. Beck is the Best

  • some him play this w/ this group more than few times ....unbelievable ..back in the day when u could get seats ...

  • このライブ映像は無いのでしょうか?

  • Imagine - Jeff Beck came from the same band that also gave us Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page - The Yardbirds.

  • To be honest, this Jeff Beck guy is every bit as great as Hendrix. Especially in one very important regard Jed, HIS SENSE OF HUMOR! Hendrix was the only other great who didn't take himself so seriously (ARE you reading this Eric the model car guy, he who believes his own B.S. P.R., to the point that those who can't possible "tell the difference" think you're God?) Oh puleeeze! At least this fellow's truly versatile, these days doing Les Paul & Mary Ford's GREAT stuff with Imelda.

  • KILLING IT!

  • There have been rock guitarist since this recording who "seem" to play better, but I'd bet anything that I'd find it easier to imitate one of their (mostly over-dubbed and mult-edited, effects-laden) solos, than this live, onstage, bare bones solo!

  • i am 28yrs old and i remember my dad used to play this on his bass all the time. i always loved this song and it is tied to one of my favorite memories as a kid!

  • OFF THE HOOK !!!!!!!! This version is the _ _ _ _ !!!! His fingers (on both hands) are incredible

  • a million thumbs up

  • licks are pretty ahead of their time for 1973

  • @PGROSYE02 no, licks were being invented and created by all the bands in the 70s. it was a full tilt boogie. new territory, mind altering drugs and fabulous music, that obviously hasn't died. true art never dies.

  • What a ton of awesome it's like jazz on crack after a hour of strobe lights

  • No mention of the G-Man in this wee little struggle for guitar wielding glory? ay? :)

Have a look see at Rory Gallagher there lads.. Not mentioned near enough for what he could do..

  • @dookie2kie yep, Rory is and always shall be in my 5 top along with Terry Kath and Oz Noy!

  • Hell YEAHHHH!

  • WAY TOO COOL

  • 1:14 ROFL that was for sure tribute to Cream's Steppin' out!

  • To me music is subjective so when I see arguments over who is better I find very disturbing. If I could play half as good as any known great guitarist I would be one really fucking happy camper!

  • This live is so awesome. It's been a long time since a rock n' roll live didn't thrilled and impressed me that much. One of the best rock concerts I've ever heard along with royal albert hall from Led Zep, Band of Gypsys and Woodstock from Hendrix and Live in Japan from deep purple. I really wonder why it's so underated. The only blame is the singing (bogert is not as good on vocals that he is on bass...) but the rest is perfect. The trio grooves so much, it's impressive

  • Amazing!!! 5*

  • I don't know which is the least informed wannabee musician between asmorgan88 or Cream234. You two goobers have done much good however in displaying that it takes more than ears to express ignorant opinions about masters such as Jimi and Jeff. Opinions worth discussing require an intellect behind them so you both = EPIC FAIL! I guess you two didn’t get enough attention from mommy and daddy?

  • THESE GUYS, ARE ALL ''MASTERS''!!! APPICE &, BOGART,ARE EXTREEMLY UNDER-RATED...ESP;CARMINE APPICE...THERE IS REALLY ONLY ONE WORD TO

    DISCRIBE, JEFF BECK...''AWESOME''!!!

  • Jeff Beck really can play ANYTHING, can't he?

  • Listen carefully, Jethro . . . they're playing your theme, Ellie Mae!

  • Never heard this before. Great imagination. Great power trio, always liked that type of band, Jeff is, was, and always will be a flat out monster. Tim and Carmine are too...Thanks for posting this.

  • @bobyoung53 Les Paul was 40 years older than Beck !

  • When jeff Beck imitates Les Paul, i prefer Les Paul.

  • great video,thanks

  • one of jeffs most loved cuts..a burnin' tribute to chuck berrys' "chucks boogie".

back in '67' i drove down to cincinnati to hear john mayall...as i stood in line i could hear the killer sound of jeffs boogie...i thought, wow....becks playin' with mayall..

it made sense to me at the time because all the great guitar players from england had played

  • beverly fucking hillbillies!!

  • Truth took a while to grow on me too, and I love it. If you want to hear the best blues a couple of white guys ever played then check out Beck and Stewart.

  • Thank you for upload

  • jeff beck and allan holdsworth-unbeatable!

  • That was very enjoyable. I always loved that instrumental.

  • gotta love that Beverly Hillbillies part

  • crazy and brilliant!

  • Why do debates about Hendrix vs. whoever get dragged into nearly every guitar player video posted on YouTube? He wasn't even about that.

  • eddie van halen is NOT jeff beck that much is obvious....muahaha

  • First there was Jimi Hendrix and now there is Jeff Beck - the most creative and original guitarist on planet Earth. Still not sure, then listen to Jeff's new CD 'Emotion and Commotion'. Wow!

  • @jmsbk12345

    NO...first there was JEFF BECK.

Hendrix decided to first experiment with feedback, fuzztone, and distortion after hearing Beck's playing in The Yardbirds. It's very well documented...

  • @asmorgan88 Thank You! There are video clips of Beck in 1965 doing things that nobody else was doing...Hendrix emulated Beck, not vice versa. This "Jimi did it first" crowd annoy me

  • @CaptainBeyond72

Technically speaking, Hendrix isn't a virtuoso guitarist...

He sounds as good & as powerful as he does because of his equipment, and the SOUND he can get from it. Seriously.

Take away the amplifier & have him play acoustic, or plug into a "clean" amp, and he sounds just like anybody else. Nothing special at all.

Hendrix is Hendrix thanks to what he picked up from what Jeff Beck was doing a good two-three years prior to him.

  • @asmorgan88 Agree again. Take away the stage showmanship or studio effects and Hendrix comes back to the pack. As far as acoustic goes..all you need to know is that Dave Mason played the acoustic part on "Watchtower", not Jimi.

  • @CaptainBeyond72

If you've ever seen his performance of "Wild Thing" at the Monterey Pop Festival, you know exactly why, and how much, he sucks.

Seriously - every band from the 60's, and beyond, took something from Jeff Beck. I'm not saying it's a bad thing - but, no...it wasn't Hendrix, or Page, or fucking Pete Townshend, or Clapton that made that thick, heavy, psychedelic, buzzsaw, fuzztone...it was Jeff Beck...and it was a good 2-3 years before EVERYONE was going for that sound.

  • @Cream234

    Seriously, though?

    EXACTLY.

The performance is famous, not for his musicianship, or how well he played...it's famous for him lighting the guitar on fire.

    Hendrix fucking sucks.

  • @Cream234

I said he sucks because that performance is so famous for his lighting the guitar on fire, & not his musicianship.

  • @asmorgan88 No. You are wrong. Hendrix doesn't suck...if anything he is the greatest guitarist to ever live and he only lived for 27 years. Jeff Beck at 27 years old was hardly the guitarist that Hendrix was. Even Beck has mentioned that he was intimidated by Hendrix and that Jimi was the best HANDS DOWN!!! Just because Jeff Beck is your fav doesn't mean that he is the best or that Hendrix sucks. Beck is AMAZING!!! So is Jimi and E.C. and all the other greats. Just enjoy their music.

  • @indian5

And Jimi thought that Phil Keaggy was the best. It's a silly argument for anyone to engage in. Why don't we all chill a bit and just realize the incredible variety of amazing players, living or dead, we have to enjoy.

  • @Marc329 Go talk to asmorgan88 about it. He's the one disrespecting Jimi Hendrix. If you would have read and understood my comment you wouldn't have sent me such a stupid message. ASMORGAN88 is a fucking tool. I really don't know what asmorgan88 wants from Jimi to make him realize that he is insanely talented. Any real guitarist who actually gets paid to play the guitar for a living would side with me. It's the little kids that just play in their bedrooms that say stupid shit like that.

  • @asmorgan88 Yeah, the same could be said about 'The Edge' from U2. Even he admitted that without all that equipment he doesn't sound any good. Well, infact nobody does, unless you're an acoustic guitar player, in which case you don't need much or anything. However, I think it's more the influence and the 'importance' of Jimi Hendrix that people seem to get confused with that he is an outstanding player. He is an outstanding player, in fact he's phenomenal, alien, but people just over exxagerate.

  • @MichaelPalinFan2008

I don't think I've ever heard a song by U2, but I guess I agree with the guy in the sense that the equipment used by bands certainly enhances the quality of sound by quite a lot...you ever hear Stevie Ray Vaughn play acoustic? It's fucking terrible.

I don't really have anything to say in the argument to Hendrix other than he wasn't the "pioneer" that he's perceived to be...can't argue with his playing, though I think Beck is a hell of a lot better.

  • @asmorgan88 Yeah, I've heard Stevie play acoustic, it's alright, he's not the most amazing acoustic player, but he gets the feeling across. No I agree, I don't think Hendrix was the pioneer that he's..well.perceived to be anyway. Beck is, truly the most astonishing guitarist I have ever experienced. He doesn't feel like 66 to me, he feels 20 odd! Ronnie Scotts in soho London 2007, right up close, literally feet away from him and the amps. Bloody amazing!!!! That was the best moment of my life.

  • @MichaelPalinFan2008

I don't know much by Jeff Beck...I know he barely has any original material, though.

I just picked up "Truth" the other day, & it wasn't really my bag at first, but it's definitely grown on me. I fucking love it now. I knew a bunch of "Rod the Mod" stuff, but never heard his work with The Faces or Jeff Beck Group - his random "Now listen" s, sent it over the top for me. Just ace.

    I can't believe he's almost fucking 70 - holy fuck.

  • @asmorgan88 haha I know, his "listen" s and random words totally make some of the songs even more epic

  • @MichaelPalinFan2008 check out Rory Gallagher. acoustic or electric, he puts out with the best of them

  • @MichaelPalinFan2008 Jeff Beck would totally disagree with you. In fact he would laugh at you in your face for saying the stupid things you've said about Hendrix. The man you are blindly defending disagrees with everything you have said...please understand this so you don't look like such a douchebag elitist. Don't think Jimi can play acoustic? "Hear my train a comin" is a song he played on a 12 string acoustic and if you think that is a weak performance then you can go to hell.

  • @kylekylelewis So what Jeff Beck disagrees with me? Isn't life all about opinions? I don't care what he thinks or agrees and disagrees with me, he's his own person and so am I. Oh I think Hendrix is a pioneer.....the most important and greatest pioneer to guitar ever....just he's exaggerated....like Cheryl Cole who is the 'nation's sweetheart', when yes, she is a brilliant singer and artist, but just she's over publicised so people think she's more amazing than she is EVEN THOUGH SHE IS AMAZING

  • @kylekylelewis For people who can read properly....unlike yourself, I said....''pioneer perceived to be'', i.e. exaggerated. Hendrix, is if not one of the most important, THE most important, 'influential', and best guitarists that has ever lived....and whilst being incredibly insanely god like at what he does, which no one could ever do, he is rightly to been seen that way....only people want to see more than what is. I'm not putting Hendrix down in any way, I'm simply saying he's exaggerated

  • @MichaelPalinFan2008 Hey Mike I think Jeff got as good as he is partly due to how JIMI put a fire in to the Brit's and Beck has come out way ahead of the game as far as inventivness, and seeing as to how this is a few years after JIMI died, they were sort of kindred souls in a way....Love them both !!

  • @MichaelPalinFan2008 and true pioneers like Lonnie Mack are underappreciated

  • @Cream234

I never said SRV was terrible...I did however say that I heard him do an acoustic set & it was horrid.

I love how you're bashing on me for my opinion, yet you clearly state yours' in that Beck was inconsistent & made a mistake by moving away from his roots.

Great - Jimi Hendrix was a guitarist & did some great things with his ability to properly use effects, pedals, & distortion, while other guitarists perfected their craft as GUITARISTS, not fucking showmen or gimmicky acts.

  • @Cream234

To say that Beck was inconsistent or lacking originality is a farce.

Inconsistent in the sense that he would, more or less, disappear for a few years, & then come out with something that blows your mind...?...sure.

Inconsistent in the sense that he ventured away from the psycho blues & got into fusion playing & was always one-upping himself & everyone else...?...sure.

    I agree.

Go listen the Beck-Ola album, & tell me that those COVERS aren't completely fucking original.

  • @Cream234

HAHAHHA - PUNK IS DEAD, & YOU'RE NEXT!!!

  • @Cream234

I'll just listen to these guys play & determine who I like.

I wouldn't read an article on a musician to form an opinion of what I think of their playing, or musicianship.

I would only do that for a politician, perhaps.

    Who IS the best?

WHOEVER THE FUCK YOU THINK IT IS!!!

To me, the greatest band ever is The Ramones, no contest.

Does that mean that it's TRUE? Or holds weight? OR FUCKING MATTERS?!

    NO!

Just like it doesn't matter to me that you think Hendrix is better than Beck...

  • @Cream234

Except for the fact that everything I said was a response to something you said...so, that was a bad comeback.

  • @Cream234 that seems to make perfectly good sense as to why you are watching his video.

  • @Cream234

How I wish people like you would do some research into this art form BEFORE you go into print!!

  • @Cream234 Somehow I doubt that, otherwise you would not have to resort to personal invective to try and make a point. Don't you think?

  • @Cream234 Last comment: I've never called anyone a moron and that's something I know about you.

Signing off. With which sixties band did you play?

  • @Cream234 I think you've just proved my point. If you really did know as much as you claim, you wouldn't have to make stupid remarks like this. Still I think I've done everyone a service by exposing you for what you are.

  • @Cream234 I could add quite a lot to the discussion if you were saying anything that was worth commenting on. And yes, I read your diatribe. Given your choice of language, I can see why your 8 year old covers his ears.

  • @CaptainBeyond72 I totally agree, but then, those people, the ''jimi did it first'' crowd don't know what they're talking about really, they just latch onto it because other people have said it for some reason. I'm amazed Beck is still going quite strong, even if it is mostly guitar fans and the older audiences turning up at his gigs because nowadays, it's all about looks and stage performance more than ever. Oh well, everything moves on I suppose. But alot is not forgotten.

  • @MichaelPalinFan2008 The usual suespects(Rolling Stone) have played a major role in the deification of Hendrix to the point of absurdity. Jimi will always be 27 and that helps the legacy a ton. Maybe those periodic breaks for Beck, particularly in the 80's and 90's, have helped him in the long run. Fans appreciate him more, he doesn't have an "Unplugged" like Clapton that pushed him way too far into the pop mainstream. Beck is rarely on the radio even classic rock...keeps things fresh

  • @CaptainBeyond72

    Fuck yeah - perfectly said!

  • imho, nobody ever looked cooler with a 'paul than jeff beck.

  • @originaltbyrd As a paul owner and lover, I must say Clapton - being a small guy - made his Paul in '65 look big, mean and awesome. He was one of the first english bluesman / rock and rollers to wield it. And hey, Jeff even gave him a nod at 1:13 on this recording..

  • Underrated? Not so sure about that. Hell, he has traveled the world playing with the best and teaching his drum method as well...surely one of the all time great drummers....timeless....

  • which one of you yokels gave this less than 5?

  • ok i gotta comment here...lol....yes carmine is underrated. he's been a legacy drummer from the 70's to present. also jeff beck is one of the hottest and scary guitarists ive ever heard. and props to the 'the bogey man' on bass. this band HAD to be one of the HOTTEST three piece groups ever to grace us with their talents. another shout out goes to Cream (the farewell concert)

  • yea he used to use a pick, he started using his fingers after the Blow by Blow days

  • the drums sound amazing... what a underrated drummer is Carmine Appice

  • Comment removed

  • @pachopavan i dont think hes underrated, i mean hes considered one of the greatest and most skill drummer ever, definately one of the best rock drummers

  • @pachopavan he was never underrated, he was Vanilla Fudge!

  • @pachopavan Why underrated ? i've always knew him as one of the greatest...

    And Jeff is the best.

  • Wow. I love how he incorporates other songs.

  • In the picture does he have a pick?????

    :O

  • @sharrer2

Yes. Beck used to play with a pick until one day he found his fingers did the job ok..

  • oh wow, i thought he always played with his fingers.

  • @sharrer2 He actually uses both.Just uses pick or fingers whenever the mood strikes him.Look on youtube for Jeff Beck Live 1974,you can see what I'm talking about...He does pick slides alot too...

  • Jeff used to play with a pick. He stopped after dropping his pick in the middle of live solo - embarrassed he decided to kick the pick for good and we're all quite happy since!! He dont need one!

  • i think if Jeff were playing a Strat, there would been some whammy magic as well as his usual brilliance.

  • Love to hear Beck playing with a Pick!! Sounds like he's playing a Strat?

  • probably his oxblood LP right here but i don't know beck's history all that well.

  • Jimi and Jeff seem to have created the later Heavy Metal style of solo-ing.

  • thanks, 'lissimo, for your annoyingly encyclopedic reply. No, seriously. Damn blues afficianados - go ahead, correct my spelling!

  • Glad to be of help .. not bothered about spelling, though. Or typos, as you can see from 'ands'.....

Great tune. Jeff is a master.

  • "Steppin' Out" first written and recorded by Freddie King! Jeez...

  • Stepping Out was written by James Bracken, the 'J' of Vee-Jay records, ands was originally popularised by Vee-Jay artist Memphis Slim.

  • Hahaha...Ballad Of Jed Clampett!

  • LOOOVE the part that starts in 2:38.

Me and my band play this boogie several times to open a gig, is waaay fun.

  • lol, at 0:50 he cites the Yardbirds.

  • specifically, over under sideways down

  • 1:15 sounds a lot like a song by Cream, forgot the name of it though

  • I think it's "Steppin' Out"of CREAM's song.

  • That's the one. Apparently Ritchie Blackmore got inspiration from "Steppin' Out" for the song "Lazy."

  • Steppin' out is actually a song from when eric clapton was in john mayhalls bluebreakers. I always thought it sounded like that song too.

  • steppin' out is by bluesbreakers

  • Steppin out by John Mayall and his Bluesbreakers

  • Clapton also recorded Stepping Out under the name of Eric Clapton & the Powerhouse for a compilation album called What's Shakin' in 1966, featuring Jack Bruce on bass and Steve Winwood on piano.

  • Les paul says the resemblance combination to Beck highest.

  • nigel tufnel

  • My wife is a long time Spinal Tap fan, and she cracked up so hard when she first saw an interview with Jeff Beck, Nigel Tufnel is Jeff Beck, period, end of story.

  • Awesome

  • if you know what i mean.

  • hey boogerchillin, why don't you just marry jeff so you can tell him how wonderful he is every day.because i think that you know that you want to be mrs beck...am i right.i heard that your mom makes good biscuits and gravy.

  • you're right, she does

    yummm :P

  • and your mom is a whore.

    her name on the street is Slurpee...guess why :}

  • God this kicks major ass!!!!! Jeff is the man! This is the first time I have heard this version of Jeff's Boogie. I really like the "Beverly Hillbelly" tag toward the end, nice touch!!

  • This song rocks so hard... sounds like something you could swing dance to...

  • who the hell is eddie van halen?

  • does anyone know the scale jeff is using at 00:50

  • That's actually a tease of a previous lick he used in the Yardbird's "over under sideways down"

  • ah, thanks my friend. was too lazy to figure it out.

  • spoiled the good nature of robokiller's comment

  • ChrisMcRae,

It sounds like he's actually doing the typical three finger roll that bluegrass banjo players use.

  • Oh,my god!

    Jeff is supar guitarist・・・・・・

  • Oh man, those glorious seconds when jeff is somehow playing his guitar like a banjo are amazing...i wish there was a video so i could see how hes doing that hah

  • Yeah, totally agree.

Jimmy had his glorious moments, but only in the studio.

Clapton was or is very conservative in his playing.

Jeff is definitely the most creative of them three, concerning technique.

Jimmy is very creative concerning scales and melodies.

  • Between Jeff, Jimmy, & Eric, I pick Jeff as the most innovative of the three guitarists!

    BBA is awesome!

  • Only song I heard off of it was "Lady". Ima see if I can find the whole CD then.
