Well, uplink is definitely more casual. Its fun, but much easier than other "hacking games" I played (and failed at). The problem is that after... I think third attempt (I wanted to learn the mechanics first) I just hacked into a bank and transfered 10 milions to my account. Later game was just... easy.

If you "just" hack into a bank and steal money you're going to lose the game. So you were either lying to sound cool or you were grossly understating the effort it take to plan and hack into a bank. Or you were using a walkthrough I suppose.

Heh its easy. You just accept enough jobs to get money (you need to get those that pay from the start). Then (sorry if i get wrong here, i played like a year or two ago) you buy bypassers, good decoders, good rig and when you are prepared. You look for the job (i dont remember the name) you are asked to send questgiver account nr. or something of the guy who got the money. (its cupple of milions btw). Then you just go to correct bank, run bypassers. (more in next post)

You can copy your user file if you want to.

But that makes it kinda worse.

You're not clearing your logs like you should. The earlier hacks you can just clear the logs on one of your hops (internic is easiest). Later larger hacks (like copying databases and deleting all files and whatnot) you will need to clear the logs on that server. If you are bank hacking make sure you delete the log of the transfer in the statement. Also delete the log of receiving the transfer in your own account. Also make sure you immediately delete the connection and activity logs.

Tip: Run Uplink fullscreen with a big screen then go to InterNIC and get all links available. Bounce through all of them, it's nearly impossible to fail regular missions. In LAN missions is the SysAdmin the biggest problem. And don't waste your time with the dictionary hacker. It's better to do small jobs until you can efford a better CPU/Gateway.

Go to InterNIC and add more servers, bounce through them before you go to the Social Security place. That will give you loads more time.

Do small jobs until you can afford the Proxy Disable.

You don't have to purge every log, just purge the logs of what you've done. Be sure not to purge your login as that would look kind of funny to have not logged in but logged out. (so basically just purge everything between login & out.)

You can hack the box and install on it some proxy program for IRC you have ircBNC.

I think it's best to always use InterNIC as your first bounce and after the hack you always return there and clear your logs there, you only need to delete the "routed" and "password authenticated" logs. Deleted your logs on the target system is a waste of time when they;ve already traced past it by the time you get to them, so CD log > delete is useless anyways. If yo uuse the InterNIC method above though, you'll NEVER get caught! Although I'm not sure it works for the storyline missions.

In real life there is alot of different ways to proxy link... One of the easiest ways is to hack multiple webservers (skript kiddie stuff) from different countries and upload a proxy script so that you can have the first server pass data to the next server and so on...

You can hack using text commands by going to the console under most servers' "admin" section. You don't have to bother manually deleting logs or whatever; you can just go to the log director and type "delete log", and it wipes all of them.
