This gives me hope! I'm 56 years old and THIS is the church I've been waiting for. As a spiritual director, I yearn for like minded people in our area of Bucks County, PA to join together and make this a reality. God is within us, guiding us to be lights in the darkness and love manifested to the world. In that way, in my mind, God is glorified.
I rather enjoy this. Very very much. Hahahaha wow.
But then again, when I first saw all of this video, I was sitting in my Annual Conference session, in the front row, right in front of the gigantic projector screen, with many many speakers.
So it was even funnier for me then.
I love the message it gives, and many of the the topics it mentions are totally right.
But I laughed when it said "aay" and "yo!", merely because... it's my church that I've grown up with hahah
This is so awesome and reflective of How God wants us to live our faith. THANK YOU for your Wesleyan, Methodist vision of going outside the church building and doors to seeing how we can serve God and help others know of God's saving grace!!!!
Gotta say, usually Christian rock, Christian rap, Christian death metal (wtf) is really really badly done. For about the first half of this video, I was HIGHLY impressed with the music.
I like a traditional worship service. It's not my kind of music.
But I think the concept is dead on the mark. It's not about what we do in the pew. If being Christian and Methodist doesn't make us different, if it doesn't change anything, then the world doesn't need what we have. We are called to make a difference.
Ok, so the song is a little cheesy, but cheesy is not all bad! I like it! I think it at least starts a conversation. Like Paul, we need to be radical in our efforts to seek and make disciples. CHURCH is a verb!
I thought this was Good! Frankly, I am somewhat surprised by some of the reviews/comments posted. I would ask, "Just what would something 'good' look like?" I'm having a hard time trying to figure out just what would please the United Methodist who are supposed to be committed to Making Disciples for Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World.
I'm a 20s-something atheist working at a UM church. This song does more harm than good as far as being "urban" and appealing to "youth." It sounds like it was produced, written and performed by out-of-touch white people (the stereotype of church-goers), and those you're trying to impress will see right through its inauthenticity. Even just having a talented black guy rap would have given it SOME credibility. Sadly, this is just more watered down Christian music for my demographic to laugh at.
I'm 15 years old (close enough to the target demographic of this campaign). The song is a bit cheesy. But the beat's pretty good. The most important part is the content, which is good. It puts our church in a positive light!
I'm not a United Methodist member, but this video is great! 90's it's not, this is very current and time appropriate! This is not a United Methodist message, but a life message. Get out and help someone. I tell my kids this all the time when your feeling down do something for someone, it's the greatest gift you can give yourself!
I love that it crosses denominations, color and age barriers. It inspires me to want to do something to get more involved to be a V-E-R to the B!
Where will you go to when you die? Have you ever told lies, stolen, used God's name in vain, or looked at someone with lust? If yes, then you are a lying, theiving, blasphemous, adulterer at heart. When you die & stand before God you'll be guilty of breaking His law. The bible says you'll end up in Hell! So God sent God His Son Jesus to die for your sins, & He rose from the dead on the third day. If you'll believe the Gospel(Jesus died for your sins & was resurrected) you'll be saved!
The church is typically behind the times & so stuck in their ways. Get out the pews & do something with your faith. Now if we can just get churches from all denominations to work together maybe somebody can really impact the world in an even greater fashion...HOLLA!
Doing all those good works would be even better without the evil of a backward and divisive mythology attached. Why not do good because it is the right thing to do, rather than trying to selfishly get eternal rewards in an imaginary afterlife?
Finally the UMC is doing something current and not 10 years behind everyone else. Whoever got this video through the "system" should be applauded!! It's great! I like that the person that is speaking first is an "older guy" and not a 20-something. It really broadens the scope of who we are trying to make a point with. The first time I have been proud of a promotion that our church has put out there in the last 40 years!!!! Been waiting a long time for this! WE NEED MORE OF THIS!!!!!
Awesome, Alton! This is what the church needs to show those on the outside (AND the inside) that church is more than a building. Just like LOVE is a verb (thanks, DC Talk), CHURCH can be a verb as well!
This is hot! Gave me goosebumps. Who wants to volunteer to help clean up after the Nashville flood? Lot's of folks need our help. Get up ya'll. Let's go!

Titled "Rethink Rock" but it's actually (bad) rap. Video is good but the music is horrible.

Friends, the medium is the message. No matter how good your message is, it can get completely lost in a poor medium.

You may think the song is a little cheesy, but the video does the trick. It gets the message out. Btw, it got your attention, didn't it?

The message is awesome but does no one else find it cheesy? Does it not feel like a song out of the 90s, to say nothing of the quality of the lyrics?

@vbvetter I agree. Great footage but cheesy song.
