I thought the GOP was making them read a 964 page energy bill (which I believe doesn't all need to be read out loud - they should do that on their own time and then debate it in congress). Do you really want them to read this whole bill out loud in congress? I think it should be posted on the internet for the public and congress should be given a few days to read it on their own time. Then debate it. Did the GOP not require that they read this out loud?

Barton is against the energy bill and felt he could derail it with frivolous ammendements or gut it with detracting ammendments.

Waxman hired the speedreader to circumvent the attempt by Barton to delay the legislature of 900+ pages, by making it be read word for word.

Once the sopeedreader was hired Barton continued to make numerous wordy ammendments to the bill. What we see here is Waxmans attempt to bypass the roadblock Barton has put up on the legislation.

What is happening here is that there is a Bill in committee that will soon go for a vote. Both parties do not intend to read this 900 page bill. So they make a joke about it by hiring a speed reader.
