gate is such an obnoxious device to use correctly. Thanks for this quick tutorial explaining the main effect of each parameter and how Hold correlates with sidechain.
Can you sidechain kicks/drums what have you with vocals in Ableton. If i put an acapella in one channel can i sidechain my kick so it perfectly aligns thru the song?
lol! I just stuck in production right now, and searched for how to do sidechaining in ableton. Found this video, almost 3 min later i knew it! Awesome tutorial!
And if you want to gate the synth without hearing the loop itself, set the AUDIO TO of the drum loop to SEND ONLY. And then play around with the THRESHOLD on the gate effect. Setting the threshold to very low will give you a "dry" effect while a higher value will start to gate. Like this you can gradually bring in and out the gate!
Have you guys seen the Windows 7 equipped StudioBLADE keyboard workstation from Music Computing? The integrated controller works beautifully with Ableton. Check out the videos on our profile! Follow the link below!
worrrd. hope this works! i was goin for that frnech house punp sound with the bass and kick. but when i tried using side chainging , i couldn't choose a specific drum hit with the sidechain.
do you happen to know how to sidechain a synth sound loaded into the SAMPLER instrument? I am having trouble doing so. any help would be greatly appreciated.

@deejaymolnarmate ...for me ableton kicks FL Studio's ass... but It's just me ;D (joke) but for real now ... I like ableton more cause it's easier to work with audio, I feel more comfortable with ableton effects, Sidechain in ableton is easy and quick... and it works (in my opinion) better than in FL. And also ReWire'ing in ableton works better than in FL. But still I'm REASON lover ;D and I use it most
cheers ive been using ableton for a year an have been manually adjusting to get that sound uve just reminded me there was a sidechain feature thanx doooouuu
Ableton 8 Suite actually has all the same and more than Live 8 alone, it includes instruments, drums, etc, over the Live 8 upgrade. It is also more expensive as a standalone, but for those upgrading from Live 7 you get everything for relatively cheap. That is what I did.

But its worth getting suite 8 I could tell you this that I have started with live 6 through a friend who introduce me to the program and I am very very please with the results, coming from logic 7 and Logic pro 8
Interesting. I've heard a similar effect done by doing compressor sidechaining - never done it with a gate. Sounds like a "harder" version of the former. Good stuff.

It's not working for me. It actually just drops the volume really low but doesn't fluctuate any ideas on what I am doing wrong.
I thought it was because I was using midi clips but im using samples now and i still get the same result, low volume.
HELP PLEASE
