just returned from fieldwork from varanasi. stayed a month in this city and have never been to a more filthy city than this. the air is so polluted from traffic, cremation places etc that your nose is filled with black dust after a day in the city.

All non sense activities should be banned along the ghat ! Electric cremation must be made compulsory in India ! All sort of the riligious garbage leftovers ,asthies , flowers, leafs should be disposed in another place instead of Ganga !

Nice and well made . I was just in india. It was great to see Varanassi but I was also glad to leave it. I had a bad feeling about this place. I went to Rishikesh afterwards and loved it. People told me they had the same bad feeling in Varanassi. Still worth seeing though

this city is the worlds ancient city and it is expected that its history is as old as 3500 to 5000 yeard. it is the religious capital of INDIA i mean HINDUS.
