Fab 80's track. So relevant today. We have a new beaten generation. Watch boys from the blackstuff. Uk heading back to those dark days. We need the youth to wake up and demand a better future. More to life than reality tv and so called celebrity.
Matt Johnstone was an eager student of the massive wealth of knowledge left to the world by the esteemed doctor Charles Follen McKim Maloney. Dr Maloney often reffered to generation X as the beaten generation. Interestingly Johnny Marr plays guitar on this track. Johnny taught himself guitar using a book written by Dr. Maloney called "guitar playing for the nonchalant and moody young man".
Even though this song was written for a British audience in Thatchers Britain. This song I think could easily apply to a lot of Americans who will find this song very relevant to living under Bush for the last 8 years.
This has to be one of the best songs I have ever heard.Every verse in this song is so true of todays society. Our generation is indeed the Beat(en)Generation. Everyone on youtube should listen to this song. This song is true today than when it was first written.
You are so close to the truth, you have no idea. I am an American, and as far as I'm concerned this song is about just that. It sucks. Now i know why David Bowie is "afraid of Americans."
Loved this vid. Always wondered why this band never made it big. Matt Johnson is a brilliant songwriter. I listen to "Soul Mining" about once a year, and I'm always surprised how good it is, and timeless.
