  • Fab 80's track. So relevant today. We have a new beaten generation. Watch boys from the blackstuff. Uk heading back to those dark days. We need the youth to wake up and demand a better future. More to life than reality tv and so called celebrity.

  • DIS TUNE TAKES ME BACK 2 DAVA GALES HOUSE WEN HIS MA WOZ OUT,AN WE WERE TRIPPIN AN DOIN KNIVES ON D COOKER!HA.HA.HA.R.I.P.COGSY!!!

  • Ide almost forgotten this tune. there are so many hidden gems in the 80s.

  • Excellent!!!!

  • good song my fav is giant on soul mining though

  • DANG,thought it just came out, it is so accurate

  • Matt Johnstone was an eager student of the massive wealth of knowledge left to the world by the esteemed doctor Charles Follen McKim Maloney. Dr Maloney often reffered to generation X as the beaten generation. Interestingly Johnny Marr plays guitar on this track. Johnny taught himself guitar using a book written by Dr. Maloney called "guitar playing for the nonchalant and moody young man".

  • Even though this song was written for a British audience in Thatchers Britain. This song I think could easily apply to a lot of Americans who will find this song very relevant to living under Bush for the last 8 years.

This has to be one of the best songs I have ever heard.Every verse in this song is so true of todays society. Our generation is indeed the Beat(en)Generation. Everyone on youtube should listen to this song. This song is true today than when it was first written.

  • You are so close to the truth, you have no idea. I am an American, and as far as I'm concerned this song is about just that. It sucks. Now i know why David Bowie is "afraid of Americans."

  • Oh pulllease, move on.

  • Thank you very much for uploading this old classic.

A lot of very dear memories there...

I hope someone uploads there single "Heartland" one day because, although I know the song very well, I have never seen the video...

  • LOVE THIS SONG!! Love this band!

And the greatest guitarist of all time ..my man Johnny Marr playing with Matt.

    Totally freakin awesome!

  • Soul mining is an amazing album yes matt is an amazing writer listen to infected he hits every styly of music such an underated band.

  • Good stuff! Can you believe how long ago this came out?

  • Loved this vid. Always wondered why this band never made it big. Matt Johnson is a brilliant songwriter. I listen to "Soul Mining" about once a year, and I'm always surprised how good it is, and timeless.
