  • @Angeula12 YES blacks will say Whitneys better but why your on Dollys site if you hate her but Dolly sings from her heart when she wrote this song and Whitney sang from Hollywood!!..Dolly sings so much better plus Dolly at 65 still can out sing Whitney !!

  • i prefer the whitney's version!

  • Dolly just tries a little too hard ...as usual...sorry...... and she can't act .

  • Best Little Whore house in Texas, Burt Reynolds

  • what movie is this clip from?

  • love this.....

  • Hugh rack...

  • what film is this from

  • It is aa great

  • this song gives me chills!

  • i'm only 16 and this is my fav song! play it twice a day :) i get called a grandma but that's just fine by me! Dolly <3

  • @iAmtheFamousMoeMoe

    big thumbs up!

  • Whitney Houstan has a power in her voice but Dolly wrote this song from her heart and she gave the song feeling. A rare thing you come across now. Dolly <3

  • Yes i will always love you, Dolly!

  • That must suck when the cover is more a hit than the original. But they, Whitney's version gave Dolly tons of royalties.

  • I maybe only 22, but bloody hell, Dolly is the best artist ever. Fact!

  • Dolly may have wrote the song and sung it first but Whitney made it her own and owned it. Just like Maxwell took Kate bush's this woman's work song to another level because they sing it with soul. :) I'm just speaking the inevitable.

  • @princous1 Yes Whitney did a remake of Dollys hit and its a country song and its was a hit for Dolly and number ''1''for months back in the 70's then Whitney sang it then all blacks loved it ..Dolly writes all her songs and a beautiful singer..You said Whitney took his song and sang it with soul but Dolly sang it from her heart!!..Today u heard Whitney singing wheres her soul in a crack pipe??..Sorry Dolly even writes her own songs but Whitney sings others singers songs!

  • @BLUEOHIO American education system on fine display.

  • Comment removed

  • @BLUEOHIO lol what does her personal have to do with her vocal talents, maybe you misinterpret what singing with you soul means honey but that is the best there is, Dolly sung this song from her nostrils, no note came from her gut lol, maybe she should have stuck to writing it would sound better without her on it

  • @NaturallyEryn Blacks will always say Whitney sings Dollys song better. You say Whitney sang from her gut and not Dolly hehe Dolly sang her song with feelings and Whitney sang it guts?? gross!..Today you heard Whitney singing Dollys it its like a bullfrog and her fans walked out ..Today Dolly has a new movie called Joyful Noise and sold out concerts and worth a billion and look at Whitney worth only 2 chicken wings and and a slice of watermelon..Hehe Dolly can buy Whitney!!

  • @princous1 thank you someone with sense lol i was starting to think everyone was tone, vocal, vibrato etc deaf lol smh

  • I will always love you luc. x-x-x-x Jordan

  • Dolly parton BLOWS whitney straight out of the water!!! Nothing compares to the original!

  • I love you Rhondda my secret love known from early childhood, you would have never got in the way, you could only have ever added your loving goodness to our lives and leyan to you <3 :-) oxo & xox p.s. Monogamy is from religion and has nothing to do with wrong or right in the eyes of God. It's about love and loving those you love, that's surely all that matters and what makes us all happy. I hope you see this message one day and come back to start anew. xox <3

  • i just came here to hear dolly's version that i didnt know about it....... Whitney killed this lady, she buried 6ft down in the sand. lol she sounds a country mess smh, with her fake vibrato she trying to push out never is she better than whitney or any other powerful singer of this time 10 decades a century you name it hell

  • @NaturallyEryn yea whitney and her are two different artist and i love whitney's version is better but she wrote this song so u gotta give her that cause the lyrics are just as powerful as the voice

  • @NaturallyEryn this is unbelievible they are two great singers but dolly made this its the number one love song. bee around sinve the 70's or 80's. there is nothing fake with dollys voice. a gift like whitney has a gift.

  • @NaturallyEryn U R SOOOOOOO WORNG DOLLY SANG WITH HER HEART AND WHITNEY SANG WITH TECHNOLAGY SHE COULD SOUND TOTALLY DIFFERENT BUT I KNOW WHAT DOLLY SOUNDS LIKE CAUSE FIRST OF ALL I WENT TO ONE OF HER CONCERTS AND TWO SHE HAS ALWAYS SANG THIS WAY SHE IS BEAUTIFUL ON THE OUTSIDE AND IN!!! WHITNEY IS JUST A COPIER AND FAKER AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT!!!!

  • @jazzygirl1231 What is "technolagy?" Whitney is a great singer. Comparisons between the two of them are inevitable because of this songs. But I think they are different types of singers. Whitney is a belter. She has a very big but controlled voice. I would say they sing with equal emotion. Also, what is it that makes Whitney a faker? Because she covered a song that was done before? I'm absolutely certain that Dolly has covered songs all kinds of artists.

  • @jazzygirl1231 Covering a few songs doesn't make her a copier. I love Dolly. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that Dolly uses technology to enhance her voice. But being at her concert in person won't tell you she is not using technology for that purpose. How do you know that Whitney uses technology to enhance her voice? Have you been to one of her concerts?

  • he didnt care what theppl tought of him just yall...

  • whitney version is much better !

  • @dyrrademelza You might think so but Its Dollys song she wrote it and Dolly sings it like a hurt angel and Whitney sings it like shes the next Janis Joplin but Janis sang with her heart Whitney just sang from Hollywood ..Whitney today trying to sing Dolly's hit sounds like a frog..Dolly will always be the best!!

  • @BLUEOHIO Hahaha...just so you know, your idols Janis and Amy also suffered from addictions and both died because of that...even if Whitney now sounds like a frog she proved she could sing this song better than anyone else...Whitney is a LEGEND! And besides who do you think you are to say she didn't sing this from her heart...she did have passion at singing this and all of her other songs, moron.

  • @UnbeatTim42 what a lovely reply

  • @BLUEOHIO I LOVE YOUR COMMENT IT IS SOOOOO TRUE!!!!! dolly parton is my idol and nothing will ever change that she is the best singer i know and she is the most free spirited person i know she sings from her heart and not anything else she sings what she thinks and i love it!!! but i think her surgerys were a mistake she is and was beautiful before and she is still beautiful today but i like the original dolly better :)

  • those of us who heard Dolly sing this first and loved Whitney's later version as well feel so very sorry for you younger folk...you missed some great music and you'll never know it the way it should be known..and that is true for all of us. Scorsese had this playing on the jukebox when Harvey Keitel was an expectant father hounddogging Alice in the diner the movie "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore." Dolly's is the classic.

  • usually nothing beats the original but universally whitneys houston version is better than the original but partons version is just as emotional and deep

  • i saw this when i was uhmmm 4 y.o. and i missed this movie.. thumbs up if u like dolly's version.

  • Love ya dolly

  • Very terriball version . Can't listen at all

I now know this is why it needed to be covered by Whitney Houston

  • @pkstory123 Way to spell "terrible" wrong

  • what a great singer and actor

  • I love this movie!!!! I love when she sings this too

  • Dolly is still going strong! This is still the #1 love song of all time!

  • the different melodies really change the feel of the song.

    this feels much more heartbroken.

  • This song helped me and my now ex-bpyfriend get trough the hardship of breaking up...thank you Dolly

  • Dolly I LOVEEEE U !! :D <3333333333333333333333333333333333333333

  • what's truly frustrating is that most people play this at wedding's, thinking it's the ultimate declaration of love

    IT'S ABOUT A BREAK-UP!!

  • I never really liked Dolly's music. I never even knew this was her song, I'd always thought it was Whitney's lol, but I was wronggggg. They both sing this song with such emotion it brings tears to my eyes and chills my with goosbumps. Amazing.

  • @amberharveybrobro The same to me. I just learned that Dolly is the song's author. But - to speak the truth - I actually prefer Whitney's version.....

  • my pap wrote this song and gave it to dolly parson

  • @bathroom16 your dad has one of the most remarkable pair of breasts in the world then!

  • @bathroom16 You liar, Dolly wrote it when she left Porter Wagoner show. Way before this movie!

  • @bathroom16 Dolly Parton wrote the song in 1973 and it was released a year later, having been produced by Bob Ferguson. She has told numerous interviewers over the years that she wrote it for her one-time partner and mentor Porter Wagoner, with whom she was having a business splitting at the time. Recorded on June 17, 1973, in RCA's Studio "B" in Nashville, the song was included on Parton's album Jolene, and was released as a follow-up single

  • its makes me cry

  • This song, and "Hard Candy Christmas" from "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" are my alltime faves. Dolly rules!!

  • Dolly Parton doesn't give a rat's behind if you like her version or Whitney's version better, she gets the royalties either way. Parton knows very well that Whitney's version of the song got her far more money than she made off of the song singing it herself. Anyone can sing a song, but an artist can create something that transforms regardless of the singing. The words touch you.

  • in real life this is the most awkward moment

  • dolly done a wonderful job that music video is a classic!

  • Happy 66th birthday Dolly! May god bless you and here's to many more years of you sharing your beautiful music with us! xx

  • both Dolly and Whitney did amazing on this song and everyone has a right to like one over the other and other ppl need to respect that!

  • These comments disgust me.

  • @iloveoreos15 You got that right.

  • @iloveoreos15 Then why the fuck are you here?

  • @dieselheart001 I dont know. Probably because I want to listen to the song, you dumb FUCK.

  • i personaly like dolly parton better. in one of my earler comments, i got mad and swore because i was mad at whitney houston. but im going to try to like them both. if i can do that and im 12, a bunch of adults can 2. sincerly, bree

  • I can see there are a lot of people posting here, who believe in my right to express and opinion, just so long as it agrees with their own. And because I express a preference for Dolly's version over Houston's DOES NOT make me a racist, people. Get over yourselves, please; and stop calling people racists just because a woman of color is not my preferred performer of this song.

  • isn't it awful how this song so clearly focuses on how love will always last and yet the majority of all these comments are so hateful. guys, it dosn't matter who sings it better. this version, right here is beautiful and all that matters is that that this song was recorded an written by such an amazing lady in the first place.

  • This whole racist shit need to stop I m black n I can tell u Dolly sing beautiful I love her n her voice but I have to be honest with myself Whitney killed dis song very beautiful I truly look up to her has a Singer rather den her personal live she sing it better n her voice his amazing I wanna be a star n she one of my influences I love her I miss the old Whitney I was young wen dis came out now 20 so haterz keep riding on her dick she ant paying ur free stupid lame duck ricist bastards

  • Patti Labelle was actually supposed to sing this song instead of Whitney Houston. Dolly asked her if she wanted to do a cover but Whitney did the song 1st and you can't even sing a song after Whitney Houston sings it.

  • yeah, hey, @imNOTtheone, yeah, eat my shit, motherfucker

  • Obviously around the time the movie The Bodyguard came out.

  • @shadowofanight: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas

  • The info tab reads "Clip from the movie".

Would anyone be so kind as to tell me WHAT movie is this from?

  • this is the most beautiful song that dolly has ever sung that really touched my heart.she is a beautiful lady.

  • this isnt just Dollys version of the song, its HER song, Dolly wrote it! Nobody does it better than Dolly!

  • @Wiscountry indeed, unbelievable how many people think that Houston's version is the original one, and how EVERYONE singing it now, bases it upon the s**t version

  • @Wiscountry

    Signed!

Cover versions are something like a declaration of bankruptcy for every musician!

  • @Wiscountry i wouldn't say that. I actually like both versions. but yes, it is HER song. that's indisputable. the versions are both SO different. it's so interesting. i wouldnt downplay either artist, not saying that's what you're doing

  • i love dolly, but whitney is the one i will always remember for her beautiful version of this song............

  • thats right ed earl...thats yo woman who cares what others say..love the movie love the song..an i soo love dolly and burt together...i really do love dollys original vers better than whitneys...

  • i love Dolly's version because it's so pure.

  • 0:40

  • i'm not sure i could even compare whitney's version with Dolly's original. They sound so different they're like different songs. I love Dolly's sweet little country voice and how she can make me cry each time which i guess is why my vote is cast with her. <3

  • One of Dolly's best songs. I love this song.

  • as a fellow southerner......this song makes me proud to be southern by the Grace of GOD!!!!!

  • @countrylover1992 I'm from the midwest a Buckeye but im very proud of Dolly Parton !!! Im from Ohio and Ohio its part hills and country but I love rock music but when Dolly sings i want to dance or when Dolly sings a sad song i want to cry..no other singers do this to me but Dolly did a new movie with the great Queen Latifah called "Joyful Noise," !! Dolly shes the best!

  • both women do it well but Dolly makes all of us from the south proud!!!!!!!!

  • I don't care what anyone says, Dolly does it better. Dolly wrote it, and Dolly sings it much better. I thought it funny that Houston said she 'was gonna show that hillbilly how to sing her own song'; and the proceeded to NOT sing it very well at all, and to, shortly thereafter go into utter mental-meltdown ... I seem to remember something about 'pride going before a fall'?

  • @paullouismosley

When did Whitney EVER say that?

  • @paullouismosley Dolly and Whitney have always respected each other, Whitney praised Dolly for writing this song and allowing her to cover it, and in turn Dolly thanked Whitney for making the song such a hit. Just because you don't like Whitney doesn't mean she can't "sing it very well at all", her personal problems occured about 5 or 6 years after covering the song, and they shouldn't matter.

  • Does it matter? Dolly and Whitney both do this song justice-- let it be at that -just enjoy

  • her voice is so soft :)

  • I LOVE LOVE Dolly's version and Whitney...well she also sings it soo beautifully...they both do it justice...NUFF SAID

  • I hate that I can't listen to this version without seeing a bunch of "THIS IS BETTER WHITNEY SUCKS" comments.

  • Whitney Houston may have the better voice but she didn't even come close to bringing the emotion Dolly did! <3

  • THIS is the best version of the song IMO

  • This was wonderful and no matter what anyone says...this is Dolly's song! While I think Whitney's version is beautiful (I am a fan of both), her's is still just that a version of the original!

  • Dolly is so fragile.... so lady ...

  • One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard!

  • I love both Dolly's and Whitney's rendition of this song!

  • SING IT DOLLY YOU GO GIRLL LOL

  • Celia Foote from The Help reminded me of Dolly! lol she was definitely one of my favorite characters!!

  • The Taiwanese kid is better than both Dolly and Whitney hahah

  • both of them make me cry as they sing this song. Both are equil to me singing.

  • Watermelon? Chicken? Coons? Biscuits and Gravy? Oh My. You've just upset my black/white, poor/not, sensibilities. Please use your internet wisely. Whitney grew up upper middle-class; mother-gospel singer Cissy Houston; cousin-Dionne Warwick; Godmother-Aretha! Whitney-born Royalty. There was more singin than eatin going on. If ya'll wanna know bout coons, chicken, gravy n biscuits, better ask Dolly. "Coat of Many Colors" tells the tale. Shut up sit down n eat. There's singin' to be had.

  • K. I did. Article by Adam Cross, "Dolly Parton has released a staggering 94 albums in her career and thanks to songs like Whitney Houston’s cover of her I Will Always Love You ...has a personal worth of about $900 million. " Whitney averages around $100 million, on a good day. Dolly - smooth, sweet, gently loving. Whitney - deep, with a powerhouse voice. Like our friend here said prior to me... " some days you want cake, others pie." They're both phenomenal.

  • I've been listening to all the new tunes. I forgot how beautiful this was. Thank you.

  • She's perfect.

  • can i get some of that chicken wiyh some gravet.... please ma'am....

  • Whitney did a superior job writing and singing it. But why she let this blonde barbie butcher it is a mystery to me? such a waste of a beautiful song. Blondie should be arrested for plagiarism.

  • @1classywoman Dear Classy, Classy women don't bully and don't judge people based on their appearance. Please change your name. Also, Dolly is not plagiarizing. She wrote, words and music. However, she is a blonde barbie doll of a woman. And... your point. Whitney performs a vocal arrangement of a song written by Dolly. Whitney is a tall, dark woman. My point... Absolutely beautiful, talented with deep emotion, both ladies.

  • this was whitney's only real hit song, dolly has had many. so let whitney have it, she sings it well too.

  • @loggats Uh-oh. Fact check necessary. Whitney owns it! Figuratively of course. Another fact, not her only hit song, not by a mile. As Randy would say, check it out. See Whitney on wikipedia. Don't sell her short. Dolly fans, I have absolutely no loss of love for Dolly. She's magnificent in her own right.

  • @jrachelle13 Whitney owns this song yes with blacks but Dolly made more from this song then Whitney could ever dream of..Sorry Whitney gets more blks too with her singing more then Dolly but ..Dolly can buy Whitney after Whitneys come back she might need a another job maybe Dolly will let Whitney be her maid!! Sorry Dolly its her song and a big hit in the 70's for Dolly..Why you hate Dolly?

  • @BLUEOHIO I don't hate Dolly. I think she's phenominal. One of the most successful artists of her time. Other than her angelic voice and her songs, I love her sense of humor. Back in the day her bust size was the buzz. She continually claimed they were "all hers." When confronted with an early photo, she laughed, and said, "Well they are mine. I bought and paid for them." Another time I heard her say, "Takes a lot of money to look this cheap." She's brilliant.

  • Whitney Houston's version did not only appeal to black people you ignorant twit. Whitney has many many fans, black, white, asian etc. Get over it.

  • @BLUEOHIO big hit in the 70's, so what? whitney turned the song into one of the best selling songs of all time. One more thing, you really should stop mentioning blacks whenever you make stupid comments like this, people prefer whitney's version, black white or whatever race you call yourself you pathetic racist bitch

  • @MrAkin90 Get over it if you hate Dollys so much and love Whitney why you here Yes Whitney gets tons more blacks then Dolly but Whitney gets blacks fans while Dolly gets the money!!! but Dolly owns this sing !! ..Dolly wrote it and you saw Whitney today she sings like a frog and her fans walking out while Dolly has sold out concerts around the world and hehe didnt walked out on Dolly!!

  • @BLUEOHIO its not about hating dolly, I actually love dolly. You should get over it if u hate whitney, her version of this song was waaayyyyy better, u'd be able to see that if the fact that she gets black fans which is not the full truth, she gets fans. The only argument u have is that she is not good now which is also not the full truth, she is not as good as before(which is what u shud expect after the years of marital and drug abuse.

  • @MrAkin90 ... lol... it's blue, must be a smurf or from the avatar tribe, whahahahahaa.... if whitney didn't sing this, no one would ever be talking about it because even i didn't know dolly's version existed until whitney sang it... love whitney's version by far, although i am a fan of dolly....

  • @Msdominitrix very true

  • @hanksnow82 I think what blackbirdfly518 is calling racist is the fact that you called her a baboon, which is widely considered a racist term.

  • Whitney Houstons version is better if you like a crack addicted baboon singing your ballads

  • @hanksnow82 Good Lord, there is no need for the racism. You could have simply said "this version is better, in my opinion." Whitney is beautiful, as is Dolly. Racism is hurtful and very unnecessary. Who would've thought that at the end of 2011 there are still racists among us. Shame.

  • @blackbirdfly518 I had no idea that pointing out the truth is racist .

  • @blackbirdfly518 Entirely agree! Blackbirdfly and "LIKE" so we can get his comment at the top. People need to listen to the damn music. Isn't that why you are here. What the hell does her skin color have to do with the brilliant art these ladies have given us?

  • @jrachelle13 Thank you so much! And yes, I am a female. You're fine. :)

  • @blackbirdfly518 Sorry Blackbirdfly. Maybe you're female. Hope I didn't offend.

  • @hanksnow82 I hope that you will pay

  • @hanksnow82 you are a horrible bitch, go die in a hole.

  • @kaceykat28 Shine my shoes bitch .

  • I love both Dolly Parton and Whitney Housten . Both are awesome artists.

  • Just had to add I don't hate Whitney Houston

I think she's a good singer I just prefer The way Dolly sings it.

  • @UnbeatTim42

I'm sorry, but I fucking hate the way Whitney Houston sang this song. I used to turn the radio off when it came on in the 90s.

Dolly has amazing voice listening to this video gave me goosebumps, thank you very much for posting this.

  • @Scottish036 That's alright, to each his own :)

  • I Loved This Part on The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas ! Yess I Cried !

  • :(

  • Whitney's version is slow and boring :/ Dolly's is the bedt

  • Sooooo much better than Whitney.

  • @tootalo Are you crazy? The most beautiful voice in this world belongs to Whitney Houston

  • @xamdim1414 your opinion

  • whitney houston definately sang it best

  • i like wittney houstens better

  • DOLLY AINT GOT SHIT ON WHITNEY!!!!!

  • It's obvious That Dolly played this song very well, but Whitney is absolutely unbeatable Powerful and singing this song.

  • dolly sings with emotion..well she did write the song..

  • Dolly's version makes me cry, that's the difference.

  • Depends what you like really. I personally find Dolly Parton crackly in this even though I love some of her other songs. Whitney Houston made this song a hit and gave it lots of power and passion, which is why Whitney rules this song, but overall, they are as good as each other.

  • Beautiful song Dolly is singing to my homeboy Burt Reynolds. Like his successful dream to go to the legislature. (smile)

  • great song!!!!

  • For everyone fighting over who sings it better, let's just end it with they both sang it great in their own styles. Dolly originally wrote the song in 1973 and it was a hit. Whitney loves it so much she asked if she could use it in HER movie. Unfortunately, Whitney's excessive drug use ruined her vocal chords that she can't even sing anymore let alone hit the high notes. If anything, direct your energies to her so that she may regain that beautiful voice she once had.

  • this is fuckin horrible whitney killed wayyyy better :)

  • @acer5556 Your sad !! Dolly can buy Whitney and you too!!

  • @BLUEOHIO She probably could but this still sucks

  • @BLUEOHIO honey she couldn't even if she tried

  • @acer5556 Dolly Parton wrote the music and lyrics for this song originally released in 1973. The song is filled with emotion and Whitney loved it so much that she asked to use it in HER movie. Regardless who you all think sang it best, Dolly makes all the money off the royalties of this song when ever ANYONE sings or plays it. :)

  • slut whore

  • @AmurPatel LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!! That's all you got? Wow, you're brilliant.

  • This version of I will always is the best i ever heard, *_* it makes me cry

When she sings, its like you can feel how sad her heard is. And my Aunt died before a moth ago, and it was her favourite song, so everytime when i hear this song i have to cry. So thank you Dolly for singing this song.

    nice greetings from Germany

  • This is not the Original version!!! Dolly first recorded this song in 1970. She re-recorded it in 1980 for this film, The Best Little Whore House in Texas! Whitney got her inspiration from the 1970 original. The vocal arrangement is somewhat similar in that version.

  • Dolly is one of the best song writers ever! These lyrics are beautiful and heartbreaking! I remember in the late 80's, I heard Dolly say that Whitney was thinking about covering her song. Dolly was very excited and encouraged Whitney to do it. Thank GOD she did, because it made Dolly Super Rich as the writer of the biggest love song of all time! This was one of the greatest musical collaborations of the era!

  • Not only do i love this movie but the song. I love her voice no one can sing like her

  • I think Whitney can sing this song a little bit better she has a very strong voice and she outs her soul in the song when she sings it
