  • ah my family if only they didnt sell the comp.

  • I have an aqua pen and pencil set, original condition in leather silk lined box, it was bought in 1954. A young man gave it to my sister as he was leaving for the military, he ask her to write to him "every day", don't know if she did or not.

  • that was a fine pen that's still in demand today

  • Sheaffer's Fountain Pen are wonderful love the old Sheaffer's Fountain Pen traded a Montblanc for a Sheaffer's Pen For Men (PFM) Fountain Pen.. Eehel should of gave Fred a Snorkel PFM.

  • Loved Vivian Vance.. thanks for clip.

  • So, lynching innocent people -- like they did with African-Americans in the first half of the twentieth century -- isn't a violent crime? Or perhaps more apropos, Vivian Vance was in an alleged abusive marriage in the 1940s and 1950s. Do you not consider spousal abuse a crime?

  • vivian vance was born to play Ethel. I always liked her. Actually, my father was the living embodiment of Fred Murtz.....he even looked and dressed like him

  • Everything so fake in those years...best fun 4 killers...

  • @Astharot90 Everything was so fake yet people still bought the things and even now you see monkeys/robots that appreciate these audio visual materials. What is difficult to see is that it's the same today.Selling for the blind sheep at the lowest production costs.

  • I love Vivian she was so beautiful. I always wondered why she married Fred. He looked like he was about 30 years older than her.

  • Nice pen, great actress....................

  • I would definitely buy a pen from Viv.

    She was such a doll.

  • @cheeriosinabowl oh totally....vivian vance could sell me the Brooklyn Bridge....she was a natural pitch person. I could picture her in black & white hawking "sham wow" or the "Slap Chop"

  • Subtle.

  • A fucking pen for Christmas??? No wonder Fred was such a crank.

  • @freshair345 I study a lot of old advertising, I have probably hundreds of old magazines. At that time a nice refillable ink pen was a classic , standard 1950s gift to give someone.....(remember, no computer keyboards....most things were written by hand). In fact a really nice pen could be expensive in 1950s money. Some other items that were classic gifts of the era would be a cigarette case and matching lighter, cuff links, a nice mechanical wrist watch or a bottle of "Four Roses" whiskey

  • @inkey2

There are still people who consider fountain pens excellent gifts to give or receive. I have a Snorkel, in fact, as well as a number of other fountain pens, both modern and vintage. At the same time that there are people who don't like to write longhand because "it makes my hand hurt" (btw, if it makes your hand hurt, loosen your grip and don't press so hard on the paper), there are others who are discovering the world of fountain pens and penmanship.

  • i have that pen

  • @futurepastrychef Wow dude, you need some help so here goes: ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, There's some extra commas for you, obviously you ran out, so you can have some of mine.

  • Viv must have jumped at the chance to do this commercial. "What? I get to do something on the show without Lucy in the shot? I'll do it! Even if it means rolling around in cow shit, just so she's not in it with me!"

  • WOW the 50's Boy Whatgood time I would love to been alive in that era...Minus the segregation! Everything seem so calm, so happy then! So RELAXED!

  • @MannyManFresh7 It's integration and "diversity" that took America from an orderly, civil country to the mess we are in today.

  • @primogennaio Yes, because slavery and the oppression of women are so "orderly" and "civil".

  • @cosmos34 LOL That's why today people walk in fear just about everywhere, and decades ago violent crime was virtually non-existent.

  • @MannyManFresh7 yeah, I agree....thats the way I have always felt about the 1950s.....and I am actually old enough to just barely remember that time. Minus the racial and gender inequality aspects it was a great time, a structured time....then....10 years later The 1960s....and thats when the world started to go mad

  • great ad

  • the good old days......no mexicans in los angeles...

  • Shaeffer Pens use to be MADE IN THE USA, right in Fort Madison, IA up until the 90s when BIC took them over and closed up the Fort Madison Plant for good. Sad - Shaeffer was a stable employer of the area for years. I had generations of relatives work their. Their famous WHITE DOT pen & mechanical pencil sets were frequent Xmas, Graduation, and Birthday gifts. Shaeffer revolutionized pen making in many ways. Now made in China, like so much other junk.

  • @bjoh249

Census records prove she was actually born in 1909, though she always claimed to have been born in 1912; hence the confusion.

  • I wish commercials made this much sense today. Show me a product, tell me what it does, and then politely ask me if I'd like to buy is. Nowadays commercials are so awful sometimes I just turn off the T.V., or at very least mute it. I can't stand this viral marketing, insults, lewd nonsense, bad jokes, and whatever other crap they're forcing down our throats nowadays. May we never forget what we now view as classy "vintage" marketing.

  • sad this woman has never had children..we cant see her legacy live on through her kids.

  • Vivian Vance was, in real life, an elegant, graceful, and beautiful woman. She was about as witty as they come.

  • Viv. should have gotten a t.v. show of her own!

  • @futurepastrychef I have some extra commas, if you'd like to borrow a couple, sometime.

  • @ILoooooveCamels No shit - that was the very definition of "run-on sentence". Plus, they utilized the "let's misspell half the words on purpose so people will think we're idiots" approach that most YouTubers take. Proper punctuation and spelling - are they a thing of the past? I mean, at least make some kind of effort!

  • Shoot, I'd have bought one, if just to say Vivian Vance sold me a pen. What a great lady.

  • Cheap ass Fred strikes again. Poor Ethel gets a pen for Christmas. lol I love the Lucy gang.

  • Awesome

  • God damn why were people sooooo happy back then

  • she had such a beautiful singing voice, she could out sing most singers today.

  • this is awesome to watch! I Love Ethel!

  • @PchickenPcake she doesn't like people to call her ethel thats why all the comments say viv. or vivian and why in the lucy show Lucy called her viv and its just more respectful

  • why didn't they ever include these commercials on I Love Lucy season sets?

  • to harley145000: i heard that too. Vivian couldnt stand Bub Frowley (Fred). He was a gruff and hard drinking dude. In fact....I heard they were offered a "spin off" TV series....Fred & Ethel ...and she said "no way"

  • that is 100% correct....vivian herd wiliam complaining about her one day and from that point on they were total enemies.

  • Maybe Lucy really was on the line, prompting Viv. Or maybe it was Bill, heckling her.

  • Twist the knob Vivian. Twist.

  • I bet Lucy wasn't even on the other end of the line.

  • That's what I was thinking.

  • viv rules

  • Telephone scenes are difficult, but she's a real pro.

  • Ethel Mae Potter; We Never Forgot Her!

  • no thums down them live under on the bottom floor an riky an lucy on top floor dumy

  • She can sure sell a crappy pen good, love Vivian!

  • It's Potter not PORTER!

  • Vivian Vance was one of the best!!

  • @BabyBlueLace She was the best!

  • her sed her breng rite down an them live under riky an lucy

i sorry dident spell good dono how

  • well the Ricardos did live upstairs in season 1 and most of season 2. They moved to a bigger apartment right next door to Fred and Ethel after little Ricky was born.

  • She did Mary Margaret McMertz proud! :)

  • Now I get that, ....Ethel Mertz reminds you of your girlfriend, and the snorkel pen reminds you of your... !

  • Great commerical. It's a rare find with her working by herself. Thx for posting!

  • Vivian has the most interesting technique for line delivery. She is so clear and crisp - it's fascinating. Love the way she delivers her lines! :)

  • This Lucy loves Ethel(Vivian),,she was such a talent !!

  • I have this pen and the pencil and case too. Its sweet.

  • viv is such an awesome lady, she will be missed

  • Love these old commercials! I love good pens and haven't found a decent one in years. In fact, I don't even recall anyone making a 'pen' commercial these days! People still write, don't they?

  • I have two A.T. Cross pens both over 20 years old and still going well. Sadly the refills for them are now made in China as are new Cross pens. What a ptiy:( That aside, it was nice seeing Viv doing a commercial during an ILL episode. Thanks for sharing with us.

  • It seems like everything's being outsourced now, with no thought for all the workers here who are losing their jobs. And the outsourced products are never as good as the ones made here. I'm not terribly impressed by the new formula Sheaffer inks, now made in Slovenia. I miss the old Skrip-well bottles, and I especially miss the Peacock Blue ink colour. The new Turquoise just isn't the same as that Peacock Blue was.

  • dont shop at wall marts guys

  • whats the point of posting a comment like that ? are u dum or what ?

  • i gotta get me one those pens

  • oh honestly Lucy!

  • did you get this off the i love lucy series dvds?!

  • i love her little heh heh laugh

  • haha that is awesome

  • Funny thing is that nowadays a 25 year age differnce would not make people think twice. Anna Nicole married a man who could have been her grandfather, but we all know that was for the money the guy had. I also know of a couple with a ten year age difference, and Laura Ingalls Wilder and Almanzo Wilder also had ten years between them (the real Wilders and the actors who played them on the Little House TV show).

  • In this ad, she looks prettier than she normally did as Ethel Mertz...funny thing was that there was a clause in her contract requiring her to remain overweight and to wear frumpier clothes during the half-hour "Lucy" episodes. In the "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" episodes, you'll notice Ethel looks much nicer than before. Strange, too, that Vivian Vance was actually a year younger than Lucy--and William Frawley was a full quarter-century older than Viv!

  • Really? She always just looked like a hip older lady to me. Personally, I liked her better than Lucy just because of her character.

  • Actually, Lucy was one year older than Vivian (Ethel) in real life.

  • You're right! Lucille Ball was 2 years younger than Vivian Vance. Vivian would say that she was actually younger than Lucille but she was born in 1909 and Lucille in 1911. Search it up.

  • almost two years older actually. now why did you get the thumbs down for the truth?

  • i love viv to death she will be missed!

  • That was a simple commerical. Thats when everyone had longer attention spans!

  • Very nice commercial. Too bad they don't make commercials more simple and fun like they did years ago.

I had a couple of Sheaffer's pens when I was a kid in the 80s, and one of them was a favorite of mine. It wrote very nicely. I also loved to watch I Love Lucy. This brings back some fond memories.

  • thats cute.

    i like it:)

  • Vivian is a brilliant actress.

  • But you do have some rude people.

  • she looks beautiful!

  • Thanks Vivian! Now I want one lol.

  • She and lucy, irreplaceable. T_T

  • thanks viv! :)

  • Excellent - thanks for posting this.
