Its a prequel in a way, but the people that died in part one are in this because they are in "flashbacks." The flashbacks help bridge the new characters into the trilogy. You will also understand why the new characters were not in the original. Its explained well though I wish there could had been more.
dude. this is really confusing. didn't eric tsang and his dumb body guard die is the first movie?
