@christina170 I don't think Elena ever really hated him totally per say...remember that there's a fine line b/w love and hate. I think she was just really mad at Damon in the first episodes of this season, because I don't think that if Elena truly hated Damon that she would still save him from Bonnie trying to kill him. Even when Elena tried to stay mad at Damon, she started faltering more and more because they both missed each others friendship. So I don't believe Elena could ever hate him.

I think that's a parallel for what was gonna go down from the moment Elena said 'I hate him' at the end of the ep. for me, a person that hates another doesn't give a care in the world about them, but yet Elena still did in sorts.

@emmactress1894 pity kiss is a very negative term, in a post finale interview with julie plec, she said that elena lost alot of people, and when she was with damon on his death bed, and they had their first-yes, FIRST- real moment she saw the real damon and she realized she had immense feelings for him, he needed her love and forgiveness, and she needed to give it to him, it was a pure love moment, nothing romantic or sexual. and next season elena will have to face and explore those feelings
