  • 10 minutes cooking time... mine were still too hard after 45 minutes at 10 minutes they might as well not even be cooked

  • @nespith sorry about your Home Fries, did you cover them and how big did you cut them u?. If you cooked them for 45 minutes you are lucky they didn't burn the house down.

  • i cutt myself usin the knife how u were usin n now im gana sue you...lol naw jk

  • too much salt

  • @humpingbird One cooking everyone should salt to taste, my husband doesn't use salt at all.

  • @humpingbird Not really..starchy veg require more salt then one would think..The big problem is she didn't use Kosher she used disgusting Iodine table salt..She also should have seasoned as she cooked..not all at once at the end..and I like to leave the skins on..lots of nutrients in the skin.

  • Great video. keep the skins some time its actually got some vitamins in it and its my favorite part!

  • @fishfrizbee Next time I cook the Fries and your coming to dinner I'll keep the skins on just for you and me. Thanks for the comment, stop by anytime. Have a wonderful week.

  • it took me forever to find a simple fried potato how-to. Thank you!

  • @KidBeanie

    Thank you for stopping by.

  • @KidBeanie Yes sometime keeping things simple is good to. I also fancy them up with onions, green peppers, little bit of ham or bacon, garlic, salt and pepper.

  • what kind of oil do u use exactly? thank you btw :)

  • @LPSgal10

It's Canola oil, you can use any kind you like.

  • They look under cooked!!!!!

  • @Valdez8210 Nope their done, and they were real good.

  • @TooTiredTeacher All sides of the potatoes should be a golden brown.

  • @Valdez8210 Thanks for you comment, stop by anytime. Have a wonderful week. :)

  • Why would you peel them? There's extra vitamins and stuff in the peels.

  • @Levitikai I know yum right, my boys want eat the peelings of anything. They told me they want to eat something that taste good and if they want to have vitamins they'll take a pill. I myself when cooking for myself I leave the peelings on add some onions, red and green peppers, some garlic, and throw some bacon in for flavor.

  • Does anyone else really like that sound at :20 when she's cubing the long pieces??

  • thank you for your kind video, somehow i still managed to screw it up,lol that was my first time in the kitchen.

  • @MrMrGuner - I don't know what you did but, try using a non-stick pan it might help. You could us a iron pan if it seasoned good. Let them get brown on one side before turning them, that might help. Thanks for the comment, Have a wonderful weekend.

  • thats how i do home fries a lot of people parboil the taters but to me it gives them a different flavor and texture

  • @dragonflychainsaw - Thats what I do with left over baked potatoes (taters), I dont like to throw anything away.

  • they wouldn't call that home fries in Jersey, onions and peppers are missing.

  • I love home fries!! I really like the way you made the video! very relaxing and easy to understand! I am going to point this out to my newly married daughter who is always needing ideas !! I am new to Youtube and am loving getting to know people here!! Have a wonderful day!!

  • no onions ?

  • @godwillhunting2 Onions are great in this dish, but sad to say not all my boys will eat it with onions. It's also great with green peppers.

  • Your cutting skills seems like magic to me

  • @Tommyjai21

Thanks, that's the way my granny showed me how to cut, it not a safe way to cut. It's best if you chopped things on a board. I have never cut my hand with this knife, it's as thin as a razor and as sharp. I have cut my fingers with a dull knife.

  • i did this first time when im was 11 years xD now at 13 i can do alot of new things in chicken i like cooking for me and for me familly :)

  • @scorpionz7175

Granny said cooking for your friends and family was another way to show love.

  • ever tried adding chicken soup base into it? i use it for mash potatoes, but im just curious how it would taste when pan fried

  • @RockyBaIboa

    It would be mushy.

  • I'm doing it now without a glass cover (don't got one) but I'm using a wire splatter-guard (if you'd call it that).

  • @matter1234 My Granny would just use a Large plate over the top of the pan and was very careful taking it off. It helps hold the steam in.

  • @TooTiredTeacher It ended up working fine, they were just a different consistency I'm sure. and my pan stunk so they all stuck to the bottom. Tasted good though!

  • @matter1234 use a plate for the cover, it will hold the steam in.

  • now tats what ima talking about right there....exellent vid

  • wow...you forgot the onions lol!

  • @gtoutofthawrld No this is just Home Fries, when I add onions I also add green peppers, and call it Fancy Pants Home Fries :)

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy

  • @raspburry18 r u okay??? hahaha

  • i made some bc there was no food at my house and they were delicious!! thank you :)

  • @Kylie66100 You can use any kind of oil, and you get you pan hot but not smoking hot (med) My mom use to make us fried potato sandwiches by cutting the potato like a potato chip but thicker, fried then put them on two slices of bread, salt and pepper, with a little garlic and ketchup.

  • I did everything you did, but mine turned into mush :(... Any reason why?

  • @minDLessGFX Sorry for you mush Potatoes, you might have pushed them around too much before they were ready. It could have been the pan you used, did you use the lid? It's hard to tell, All I can say is give it another try and change just one thing that you did that might have cause them to go mushy. You could try not using the lid but you will have to stay right with them until they are done if not they will burn or Use a non-stick pan. Don't give up.

  • @TooTiredTeacher Thanks for the tip! I think it might have been a combination of things. Too much oil, I didn't use a metal spactula, and I used the wrong lid for about 5 minutes of the cooking time. My dad also gave me a tip, he said I should boil them for a few minutes, so the inside gets cooked.

  • the way you cut teh potatoes seem dangerous but it really isnt for an experienced cook like you. for a beginner i would say take it easy and go slow or just cut on the board.

  • @snowblazer12 It's not a proper way to cut things, I slipped up and did what I do with that knife most of the time. When cutting things up one should use a board an cut slow. I might need to redo the video using a board.

  • @snowblazer12 as i said its only dangerous to ppl without experience. and even cutting on a board you dont have to be slow. only beginners should be slow.

  • Use virgin coconut oil, ghee, bacon fat, tallow, or some mixture thereof to cook your fries. Canola oil is not fit for human consumption.

  • @Chaohinon Thanks for the update. Stop by anytime, Have a wonderful weekend.

  • hey where did u get tht thing to lift the potatoes after cutting them into cubes/? also, wht is it called??

    Thnx

  • @okthtsfunny

I got it from Pampered Chef, I can't remember what it is called, I use it to chop like meat in the pan as it is cooking and scoop my chopped veggies with.

  • @okthtsfunny , I remember,Thats a pastry cutter, from Pampered Chef. A tool can be use for many different things and in this video, I'll call it the tater lifter. :)

  • whats the difference between this and deep frying them?

  • @sharkate7 When they are deep fried they are harder and crispy, these are more steamed fried, soft.

  • How did you cut those potatoes so fast without cutting yourself?! O.O

  • @ca1cifer One should not use a knife that way, you can cut yourself. It was my grandmothers, it was handmade and it's as thin and sharp as a razor blade. I have always cut veggies up that way. That's the way she showed me when I was a little girl. I try not to do that on videos but I forgot, I didn't think twice until I got a few comments. I've never have cut my self with that knife, but I have with others that was dull. That knife cut those potatoes like they were butter.

  • lol the comment u put, saying 'remember im from the south' lol, love that

  • @gregrocks66 Southern girls are different.

  • @TooTiredTeacher i know, i love the south, its a nice get away, wasnt complaining, just brings me good memorys of the south

  • Iodized salt dissolves over heat, try using Kosher. It's flakier & sticks nicely.

  • @bruno2260 Thanks, good to know.

  • @TooTiredTeacher ok im going to try them. ive been wanting to steam them but i dont have a steamer, thanks for replying. one ? do u think these would be good as a side to a burger and as a side dish to scrambled eggs?

  • @sharkate7 Let me make you understand when I say steam. First I start off with a little oil in the pan and get them brown then I put the lid on them to steam them and just before they are done I take the lid off and push them around to finish browning them. We eat them for breakfast all the time and they are great as a side dish for anything. Ketcup is a must. On the weekends we eat a Paul Bunyon Breakfast - bacon, eggs, grits, home frys, bisquit and gravey, and pancakes. We don't eat lunch.

  • no!!! slice them like thick chips....what you've done here is blasphomy!!!

  • @clayprit When we slice them thick like chips, we make tater sandwiches with ketchup. What can I say we just love potatoes anyway you cut them up and cook them. Remember I'm from the south. There's more than 50 ways to cook a tater.

  • @TooTiredTeacher whats the difference between this and deep frying them?

  • nice. im going to go make theese right now. thumbs up

  • @tylenator552

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Looks yummy, the music sounds kind of sad though :-/

  • @Joce61586 , I would say the music is relaxing.

  • is it good to use black pepper?

  • @cruzjose95 good as in healthy or tasty? I like black pepper.

  • lol i would be scared to cut up the potatoes like she did

  • Comment removed

  • I do mine sliced you can slice them to either way its good.

  • they should be boiled or stew down first b4 frying and i use butter, never oil..how bout some green and red peppers...make it more colorful...too much oil

  • Agreed!

  • Yummy I love home fries...Betty you have a very soothing teaching voice thats why I like teachers like yourself on youtube .. You all don't make it complicated.I have a request...Can you make Clam Chowder? the regular kind not the one with tomato's.Thanks

  • great quality TooTiredTeacher vids awesome

  • Thank you.

  • Damn they look good.

  • Would these be 'home fries' or 'home hash' ? In any event, it looks tasty! Thanks for the post!

  • These are southern home fries not to be mixed up with potatoe hash, or French fries.

  • why not add a few diced bacon rashers - its delicious

  • Nice work, we liked your video very much so we embedded it on ChefCommons w/ link back and reference to Youtube. (Let us know if you don't wish for it to be featured)

  • Hey 3T--great video and dish!

  • I've been making these all my adult life. They are great. I do usually add a chopped onion to them when I prepare them. 5* Video

  • These look delicious!!!

  • nice!

  • do the potatoes need to be boiled before hand?

  • No, and I wouldn't that would put too much water into the potatoes, the ones I am cooking are raw, the easy way is to put the whole potatoes in the microwave first then cut them up and fry them, that really is the best way and put different kinds of seasoning on them like dry Italian dressing, garlic, or onion powder be creative you can even put cheese on top.

  • Yea I made some and did'nt boil them and they tasted amazing, thank you!

  • Nope, but it can help with the process. Just give them a quick boil, but not too much to do mashed potatoes.

  • Your potatoes look yummy! I enjoy your videos. Keep them coming!

    --Betty :)

  • These are really good either way, but your suggestion in the description for the garlic, onions, paprika, and parsley are the way to go!!

You should do a dish or two that includes chicken - keep them coming...

  • Thanks for your faithful viewing, Subscribing, Commenting and Rating. The chicken dishes will be here soon. I know you liked the Chicken and Dumplings I did earlier, you'll really like the Chicken and Rice dish. Thanks again my faithful viewer--TooTiredTeacher
