  • this was on sesame street man, how cool

  • Who does not like this? Over there, against the wall...

  • i like bein born in the 90`s but man this was the era to be in:)

  • Perfection

  • What? They couldn't keep it going for the whole episode of Sesame Street? I woulda stuck around.

  • this is easily the best performance of this song in existance

  • I BET THEM STANKING ASS 167 MOTHERFUCKERS WHO DON'T LIKE THIS ARE BIEBER OR LIL WAYNE COCK SUCKERS!!!!

  • Is it just me, or does the song get faster as it goes on?

  • There's no way they would have something this awesome on Sesame Street nowadays. I mean, for crying out loud, when they had Katy Perry on the show, it was considered "controversial" because kids might have found out about the little-known fact that women have breasts. If they brought back Stevie Wonder to do another 6-minute jam session in 2012, you'd have an army of "concerned parents" pissing themselves and suing PBS into oblivion.

  • how was this on sesame street.......... I swear this song just made love to me.... and lol at the kid dancing, get it!

  • Oddio ragazzi ... siamo all'inizio .. mitico

  • damn! on sesame street yo! this is da bomb! where the heck is Elmo ? oh noh it's oscar the grouch yo!

  • THE best version of this song!

  • 167 people dont like this song the finger of shame on all of their ears

  • We use to watch sesame street in school! How sweet is this!

  • back when the show was hip. sesame street is so stuffy these days. so glad to be part of the 1st generation of kids who got to see this stuff.

  • Pure cool...that is all there is too say about this man and his music.

  • Best live version of this song on the Internet

  • Pure funk. Pure music. Pure Stevie!

  • Little Indigo kid on the balcony rockin' his little heart out.. oh BTW - 165 were republicans as children and missed their childhood...

  • @flowerseva LOL thats a girl

  • Best moment on Sesame Street ever....

  • good song... who said that its GREAT!!!!!

  • You could power the planet on this!

  • stevie wonder = music so good even the leader of the band cant stop shaking his head

  • The head sway

  • Gotta love those Orange stacks!

  • It doesn't get any funkier than this

  • Ron Jeremy is a good trumpet player!

  • And on lead vocals........Mr. Eddie Murphy!!!!!!

I remember watching this way back then with my little sister. Dayam one of the greatest songs ever.

  • If you don't like this, you're a Communist.

  • 1974: Stevie Wonder on Sesame Street.

    2012: the Beib.

  • Can we also show some respect for bassist, who, at 3:20, is playing ridiculously difficult chords when no-one can hear him, because the song fucking deserves it. You join Stevie's band: You put the fucking effort in.

  • @MrJLCummings You are so right. Man that line is tight, as funky as it gets. Stevie never tolerated slouches in his band, but you always had to stay loose.

I love the look between the horn section at 3:40. "We're hitting it better than when we laid it down in the studio." "Damn right. This is cool!"

  • @MrJLCummings Well, i can hear his riff ;) Its fu**ing awesome!

  • @MrJLCummings I think the chord stays the same, so there aren't really any chord progressions except in bridge. Still, he's playing like this is his last time :D

  • His smile at 1:57 lights me up every time.

  • The intro to this song sounds a bit like Peter Gabriel 80s hit Sledgehammer too!

  • When? 70's ???

  • Best part of this video - NO ELMO! God, I loved this era of "Sesame Street" when Stevie Wonder, Lena Horne, and The Pointer Sisters (among others) used to sing on the show!

  • he's soooo freakin' AWESOME!!

  • pure soul & fine 2! choooo

  • Ron Jeremy on Trumpet at 1:16

  • I was only ten year old. I was sitting down with my lil brothers watching it.

  • I remembering watching this on sesame street.

  • Look closely: a young Ray Parker Jr.("Ghostbusters") on backing guitar.

  • Superstition!!!

  • Superstiton!!!!!

  • From Sesame Street, episode 514, April 26, 1973. =)

  • Such a great song I love the lyrics.

"Superstition ain't the way, no, no, no"

  • Utterly classic. Would have been beautiful if something like this could have kicked started Sly Stone back into the game, the way the friendly rivalry between the Beatles and the Beach Boys pushed them both to greater heights in the mid sixties.

  • @Chancelander Well Sly's last great album, in my opinion, came out the year after this performance. 'Small Talk' is a masterpiece! After that he still made good music, but not the ground breaking music of his prime. Sly was a genius, but drugs have no malice. Drug's don't care if you are a musical mastermind or an average Joe, and Sly like many great artists got taken under. Hopefully he'll release some new music this year, but more importantly, lets hope he overcomes his demons.

  • Words fail me!!

  • The shizznit!

  • Check out young Ray Parker Jr on the guitar

  • @mack1348 Yeah he was great. He later went on to play for Marvin Gaye, on the road and in the studio.

  • i rather watch sesame street then keeping up with the kardashians crap we have today

  • @cupanda1234 Thank you, you couldn't be more right.

  • theres that one kid in there really feelin the music and i think its one of those situations where a grown up person says "if i could be a kid for a day with what i know now...(wish/dream/timewarp occurs)....oh shit, stevie is on the show today?"

  • BRILLIANT !BRILLIANT ! BRILLIANT !

  • Damn sesame street was badass

  • Good musical education begins VERY early: my little boy is 2 and is already fan of Stevie for... months! I really don't know whom he got that from?... ;)

  • Things like this make me wish I was born in the 60s instead of 1994.

  • @KingOfKatamari I was born in `68 and I remember this WELL from when I was a kid.. in fact, they opened the show with an original song from Stevie "1-2-3 Sesame Street" it's on here.. This show was truly amazing in the 70's

  • The Best, maann, Just Pure aWsome woNder, I love thIs soNg, & watched thIs show, ut yeah.......kIds DID have it good back then....

  • hehe Kids those days had it good. Y'all with me?

  • pure musical art (!)

  • @moitoujourla Is the (!) a sarcasm mark?

  • And wesley snipes on the traps everybody!

  • 1:15 ROM JEREMY?

  • At this moment Stevie Wonder Is The Ministry Of Cool!

  • one of the best jams ever made

  • 162 people are racist

  • @3noahc or maybe they aren't superstitious or into this awesome funk..this bass line is funky as hell gotta have alot of soul to appreciate it and I'm white..one of my all time favs

  • @3noahc Stop playin' that tired effen card.

  • @jejozi it was a joke i dont know why you went a month back just to insult me no life

  • @3noahc A fine example of the ignorant youth of America.

  • @jejozi and the ones who will be running the country sucks for you

  • @3noahc youd better respect he who travels through time

  • a lot of likes here!

  • Sesame Street is still cool, you just grew up.

  • When TV allowed 6:48 of air time without a commercial break of 3:00..........

  • @GBassJones Ummmmmm, shows on PBS doesn't break for commercials

  • There is so much cool in this video...I don't care if the guy on the sax IS wearing a floral shirt. :-D

  • This is the best thing I have ever seen.

  • :38 lol

  • I show this to people and tell them it's THE best thing on Youtube. They are usually sceptical. "Oh yeah?" they say.

    Then they agree.

It IS the best video on youtube.

  • The Master. I fall down on the floor and give thanks.

  • 4 Million and growing!

  • is that Prince at 4.10?

  • THIS is the music I will raise my future kids on :D NOT.....nope, I shall not utter his name ;)

  • @lovewillkillusall What's your problem?

  • @ThePete4545 No problem here. I was TRYING to stay away from mentioning the name everyone brings up on any real artists video, lol, but NOW I guess I will, Justin Bieber :D "Problem" solved? ok, cool.

  • @lovewillkillusall Sorry about that, I misunderstood your meaning, my fault entirely!

  • Sesame Street episode 514, in 1973

  • I remember watching this as a little kid in the mid '70s. Superstition has been my favourite SW song since..epic performance!

  • Remember when PBS was cool?

  • @LDaylights Yes LOL man it was hot I mean it cant get better than having Michael jackson and Stevie wonder on PBS

    PBS back then

    good days

  • the reason i love this so much

is that 'the sound of the record' is recreated 'live'

    only 'somehow better'

he bops his head a little like some autistic kids i worked with

    'lost in sound'

and ye the sight of the little girl 'headbangin' away to this

    Classic !

  • @MURPHNSPUD I agree! it does sound amazing, he is one of the all time greats, still going strong, hope he goes on for many many more years, a true legend!!

  • @ThePete4545 @ his best SW's songs had an 'organic' feel

(if u pardon the slight pun)

i used to read a magazine called 'black beat international' and

when reviewing his song included on 'The Last Dragon'

they said 'Don't get excited, it's one of his 5 minute bontempi jobs'

and that's whats infuriating about him

i'm mean 'dont drive drunk' LOL

    bad move there no?

  • Love it!!

  • Stevie Wonder is the man! I love this video

If you like Stevie Wonder check out "The Regulars Band 2012."

    Thanks and keep it funky!

  • 162 assholes

  • Brilliant....

  • I'm listening to a song that was played live on Sesame Street

    and I love it

  • How the fudge do you manage to write this??

I mean... it's so complex and stuff! and he is but one man! It's truly amazing.

  • @SlipknotA7XBulletBVB actually, its not complex at all. It's just riffs created by a genius compiled on top of each other. It sounds complex because of its simplicity. Whats wonderful about his music is how amazing these riffs are.

  • @musicalman1995 true I guess, but think about it, he's got drums, bass, piano, 3brass instruments, at least one guitar, and fuck knows what else is hidden in the background

Christ knows how he managed to write it all down, and compilate it perfectly

  • Awesome, could use more muppets though.

  • Thank you for compiling, sharing & Blessing us with this history! May your blessings returned multiplied!

  • You 162 mugs don't like this- why did you bother to express that view. Come back when you've got something better.

  • @TheLeftfieldster AGREE (or perhaps maybe they just thought it was too short)

  • I NEVA knew he didnt always have dreads! BUT I DID ALEADY KNOW HE IS AN AMAZING ARTIST!

  • ke ropa tan cooll

  • He had the tightest, funkiest, jammingest backup group of all time...

  • Wow

    Sounds nothing like the record

    sounds almost 'organic'

    that high enough praise

and i 'heard' it better with my eyes closed

no joke - go listen again - i kid thee not!

ps - wasnt there 'talk' of a Stevie Wonder

    & the Rolling Stones -

    joint [lol] GIG

    An official bootleg?

  • Whatever happen to good music like this. Artist's today? Cannot compete with this. Today's Hip Hop, to me, expanding the role of the dj. Talking over old songs. No soul. The soul is gone. Rock still has it's soul, real singers and muscians still exist. But, hip hop,lol.... cannot compare to real music like Stevie Wonder.

  • I'm not trying to be mean, but why is Stevie Wonder wearing a watch?

  • @weeneldo They make watches for blind people.

  • @weeneldo it helps him keep time

  • @weeneldo Why do most people wear watches? To tell the time. The crystal opens and he can feel the positions of the hands.

What I want to know is why he's wearing prescription glasses?

  • thumbs up for the drum beat in the intro!!

  • Too long and really rushed. ?

  • @mrJinsudbury twat.

  • Amen to superstitions making us suffer!

  • It is a boy, not a girl 2:14!

  • bob rifo sent me:) lovin' it!!!

  • Bob Rifo why did you send me here from twittter....

saw a lil bit of Steve at the ACL festival this year! He still sounds as good as he did all those years ago...

  • Back in 1973 when America still was the "Land of the free"

  • God damn Stevie looked badass with that afro

  • Sesame Street ..???.... Missing the green little frog and Miss Piggy ?? .... But who cares ...... great music anyway ....... 12 points from Germany!

  • some people say perfection doesn't exist...well, they may be right cause this song goes far beyond it.

  • ollie brown on drums now an estate agent according to wikipedia

  • Thumbs up if you can't stop the clip before the end

  • MY-GOD-THIS-IS-MUSIC

  • Every Halloween, I post this video on my facebook wall as a tradition. Thumbs up if you now want to do the same.

  • @diddypopdiddy I think you should look up the name of this song, dingus.

  • @anakinthehutt didnt quite get your connection, thats why i said explain, dingus, no worries tho take care brother...... long live king stevie..

  • @darrinpipe Great idea man! bur only problem is that ppl will see you'r top comment and then know that we ripped you off.. Groovey

  • Back in the day when artists and musicians would appear in tv shows and wouldnt lip sync

  • ¡Afro!

  • As cool as TV will ever get.

  • WOW ...just WOW...I love this song

  • I feel creepy for liking this video, but It's brilliant, so here we are

  • Class in session.

  • who played bass and drums on that video ? great song by the way thanks for posting

  • @gabmc1966 I'm not sure about drums but I think it's Nathan Watts on bass. I remember watching this when it originally aired. I think I was like 4. This may have been what got me into funk!

  • @gabmc1966 Ollie Brown on drums, Scott Edwards on bass. This was slightly before Nathan Watts became his bass player, Watts has been with him since mid-70s I think. Edwards replied to someone asking who this was and how they played in on a Bass musician's site, can't remember which one (I don't play but looked it up b/c I was curious.

  • Somebody told to Stevie that they were in Saturday Night Live

  • By watching that video, I learnt that Michael Jackson didn't create anything : Brass in Pop-Music, Groove, Funky songs, and voice. I think MJ did copy SW ! But not for business, I bet he learnt to sing by listening that kind of artists...

  • Anyone else thinks the bass part sounds like "always on the run"'s bass part by Lenny Kravitz ?

  • @Louyii96

    Uhh.. You mean:

Anyone else thinks "always on the run"'s bass part by Lenny Kravitz sounds like the bass part ?

  • @Donnygast Uh, Of course ;)

  • @Louyii96

    Haha.

  • Remember when learning was fun?!?

  • Support Public Television

  • SNL lost it...Sesame St. had it...That is what good television is all about. Live and from the soul. Kinda like Stevie. Hot, hot, freakin' hot! Love the kids jamming...

  • OMG!! They are for real jammin!!!! A straight up jam session on Sesame Street. Can you tell ME how to get to Sesame Street? lol If not i'll just follow this music. Man, that was hot. Classic. Truly classic. Wow. And yeah, lil mama on the fire escape was into it. lol

  • There's a wall of sound for ya

  • You just dont get this on kids tv anymore, god bless the '70's

  • Fantastic ! Black and White People together , We need more bands like this !

  • It was just great that Stevie could play on a show like Sesame street... it really rubs it in the face of new music today.

  • This, my friends, is why Gen X RULES... we grew up with this.
