@godlydrmr Thomas Lang is the same way. vs Zoro & Marco Minneman. Dave is amazing, so is Zoro (one of the most down to earth people ever I've met) Dave & Tom, Great, both Dicks. Then, Marco and Gadd, (who talked about learning the hard way DVD) bit less technical, but play slightly more creatively than Dave and Thomas. not being so rigid helps music breathe! they're all great, preference to who's cool in person, Don't let fame feed your ego (metallica), just remember the people who got you there
@Ironplaiddrummer and to make this comment before anyone else thinks we forgot, Marco Minneman is amazing and evrything that he doesn on the fly, in odd time, in infuriating disgusting amazingly flawlessly beautiful. I promise I didn't forget.
Why does weckl always play songs that sounds like they may have been in a pornflick tracklist? I simply HATE his choice of songs. He should play bop, og classic jazz. Not silicon valley-anal lubing tv-shop sounding latin-jazz.
when im not watching death metal drummers blasting im watching weckl vids, this guy is hypnotic! too much metal drumming and you forget how to flow. this sort of stuff got me into drums in the first place, groove and soul
It's really amazing. I use his and Gadd's sticks, and guess what? I sound JUST like them both...
...if you listen to split fractions of a second of my playing. Every 1/8th of a second, I can sound just like these guys. The problem is putting it together. Still working on that.
Personal identity as a musician is achieved (especially in this style and in jazz) by learning root fundamentals and LOTS of listening and developing from that of the masters like Weckl. Eventually, your own identity, made up of the same fundamentals as everyone else and the emulation of your choice of masters, will develop and you become your own unique identity which others may want to emulate. So, in essence, he's correct.
Which song is that?

man, no offense, but it's better off drumming as yourself, not as another drummer. you gotta have your own identity.
