I just meant that the government can't solely decide how much we pay. I think most people know that government has to be funded but the amount we pay should be decided by the citizens and not the government. Which is where we are today. The government thinks it can impose any tax it wants and the people seem to want to comply with it as if we had no choice at all. In the US medical care is private. Less taxes would mean hospitals could keep more of their money, and hire more nurses, doctors, and surgeons. They could also buy better equipment and increase their medical inventories. As for the schools many schools are funded with the help of companies. Less taxes on business would mean more funding to the schools, especially when you consider that companies could pay their workers more, which does mean more money from sales taxes going to schools.

Correct. No law specifically states that YOU have to pay taxes. However, the 16th amendment to the constitution says that your government has the right to levy taxes against YOU.
Good video. Great to see so many folks are tax-adverse and realize that taxes stifle the economy and their standard of living. Except, that is, for the guy that didn't trust people:
"A lot of people go crazy with their money if they have more money."
It reminded me of the line from the self-described humanitarian dude in Africa in "Mine Your Own Business" that basically said people there were too simple to know the value of money but instead they traded in smiles.
She realizes that higher tax rates lead to less economic activity and less production(wealth). And she realizes that the current economic fiasco was caused by democratic politicians( See US Economy: Lesson Learned? )
and yet she is going to vote for Obama anyway !?
I think maybe I know now why women were not allowed to vote.
Taxes should be applied to services we want as inalienable rights: police, fire, education, transportation (if possible), health (IMO), protection.
Taxes should not inhibit personal freedom, like the income tax or the corporate tax. They are meant to bring a society up by working together, not bringing a society down by stealing all of their money and stunting growth.
The only way to reduce taxes is to reduce the size and scope of government. It amazes me that 90% of the nation is still willfully voting for the lesser of two evils, whichever one that is for them. If you want less government and less taxes it's simple, vote for Chuck Baldwin. If you want more taxes, more constitutional rights taken away, and more problems in your life vote for Obama or McCain. See you in four years for the next round of party politics, lies, and broken promises. Enjoy it!
Seriously, who made her the expert? And where did she get all these facts about corporate America? And she needs to soap up and clean her attitude. Crappy and free bad mouthing.
Wtf is with these faggots wanting to have sex with her! God i mean seriously its wrong on so many levels. If i was her i'd kick your asses. Sorry i just had to put this comment on one of her videos cause i've seen to many.
How much of your taxes are used to pay for the social programs, medical care, welfare, and education of the children (anchor babies) of illegal aliens?
So let me get this straight, if we tax corporations they lower our wages. We stand for this why? If all we are is fodder the corporations then whats the point? Are we sheep?
"Question?!" Does the I.R.S. pay taxes? and "Why does the I.R.S. not have to overturn a decision that can be proven or is proven that they were wrong in their calculation?" Taxes are the same as tithing! The only problem is the heads of the bodies, can't see clear due to all the snakes in the grass! I would like to see your drivers license number be attached to your bank card and i.p. address via vpn connection to manifest all updates and transactions and calculations based on tax laws
You failed to mention executive compensation is included in your statement higher taxes means lower wages. The real fact is few corporations today actually pay taxes. I am an employee of a major corporation and I pay more taxes than the corporation I work for does.
Something you didn't bring up in this video is that corporations will often increase prices in response to more taxation, as well as their decrease in wages. Another thing is that jobs that provide goods and services are more likely to be outsourced, too, once taxes get too high for a corporation.
I don't know about you, but the more I look at the salary figures of board members and corporate executives, the more I think their should be an income cap/percentage of profit cap...
I really like when you do the street interviews, you're like the opposite of Borat. And you always have interesting topics. You seem like you would have great 1-on-1 conversation. The kind when you're out on a date at a restaurant or coffee shop and you're supposed to be keeping a conversation.... I think you're really good at that.
Keep the videos coming. And I thought consumers paid corporate taxes? At the end of a sale, there is a sales tax, which I thought was used to cover their taxes.
Why would you Resident, vote for a person who will tax these corporations, and in fact force them to move their operations overseas. Corporations will be unable to not only increase the wages of their workers, but hire new workers and expand their operations which means more opportunity for the average Joe. Corporations that stay here, spend their profits here along with their workers.
Since corporate taxes are so high in the U.S, wouldn't it be beneficial to lower those taxes to keep corporations in the U.S? Why is Obama so adamant about corporations moving overseas, when in fact corporations here are the taxed at the second highest rate in the world. Americans paying lower taxes regardless of what income class you are in, is always a good thing. It means less money for the government to waste, steal, and mismanage..
I think we need to eliminate both the loopholes on corporate taxes, have a land tax, return tariffs and at the same time eliminate income taxes. Because how much does it cost for the IRS to organize, maintain and keep track of the millions of taxpayers?
I used to support the Bush tax cuts back when they sounded good. I can't see how an increase in the capital gains tax would depress wages, when the decrease in the tax under Bush hasn't increased wages. The Bush tax cuts reduce the cost and risk of growth, which sounds good, until you find out that corporations have taken advantage of that by going into massive debt to buy up capital they couldn't afford in order to maintain that growth. The Bush tax cuts helped create a massive bubble.
Either way the working class is screwed. Tax the rich corporate, they undercut their workers. Over tax the middle and poor, less money toward food and making their life better. The truth is either way the basic person gets screwed. If I had more money I would invest. Isn't minimum wage way behind too?
That's a good idea man! The problem is definitely how the corporations decide to distribute the wealth. However there is statistical evidence that does point to lower corporate taxes having a direct correlation with an increase in wages. I still think that's a good idea you have though! :) I mean, either way.
Well, you should vote for whomever you feel is right! Both candidates' tax plans involve corporate taxation, one giving more cuts to companies with more money than the other. :) Obama still has my vote - especially since I think both candidates will end up with very different tax plans than what they're promising now. Why? Because the bottom line is taxes aren't going away - all their other policies require funding.
good answer. I also believe the views of the candidates on taxes will change once one of them is in the office (so will on foreign policy). I'm not a citizen but if I were I would be with Obama all the way. In fact, I participate in support Obama campaign, cause I really think he will do much better for the US
B. Corporations are government granted entities and because of loopholes hardly pay any taxes to begin with. I know, I've had an LLC.
C. Taxes (IRS), combined with the Federal Reserve system in the USA keeps the debt situation in this country going. How about NO corporations, personal accountability and no taxes on peoples labor. It's ours not theirs.
D. This world is going down the toilet as long as we still support a central banking system.
Business taxes are just a shell game that politicians play to make the voters think that they're on their side. In the end consumers pay for every tax levied on business, either through lower wages or higher prices.
Does the resident Hypocrite realize that this video is a case AGAINST her messiah Obama, who wants to raise corporate taxes. In other words, unless you own a corporation, work for a corporation, depend on someone that works for a corporation or buy anything from a corporation then Obama's tax policy won't affect you.
Personally I think that they should tax ignorant, hypocritical little tarts trying to purport themselves as reporters while spewing innacuracies and liberal talking points.
interesting subject. Here in Belgium we also pay taxes on almost everthing, now they wanna put a tax on airplane tickets....Because of the bad economy in every country these days with the bank shit....But your enthousiasm in your videos make it kinda positive to hear:P
CPAs have all the loopholes any company needs to avoid paying corporate taxes - and guess who makes up the difference? I'm more concerned with property taxes, sales taxes, school taxes, and income taxes.
And, tons of corporations are actually small businesses that would not even consider working outside the US borders. And we, small businesses, hire American workers...well except for the ass-wipes that use illegals.
What's the net difference? The state still needs the same income. If you get a higher salary but a higher tax to go with it you won't have gained anything
so a corporation that makes $10 million a year can't afford to pay workers above minimum wage but if they got an extra couple mil back from taxes they could? cuckoo. cuckoo.
This is, seriously, the most intelligent perspective I've yet encountered on YouTube. This undoubtedly means you'll get an avalanche of irrational hate comments. I could laud you for another six thousand words, but well, you know... Very best regards!
So a US citizen that get the same things as a dane does, pays on average almost 100% more for these things. And we in Denmark ALL get education, medi care and old age care taking and much much more. In US only those with money gets these things.
Compared to my country americans pay almost NO taxes.
But again, durign a lifetime a human needs the following:
Education
Medi care
Old peoples care taking
And if these things are paid by high taxed they tend top be a LOT cheaper compared to theise things being private, because the state dont have to make a profit out of it.
We have tons of beuracracy here...and most is run by unqualified individuals looking for a cush government job that requires no real mental or physical effort.
Standing in line at the local DMV is always a trip. The federal level is not better.
Do you realize the right wing anti-poor implications of what you're suggesting?? It's pretty obvious that we should be doing the exact opposite of what you're suggesting. First off, what is your source that corporate income taxes are 2nd highest in the rich world? 2nd, if that really hurt the poor so badly by itself, then we wouldn't have by far the worst wealth distribution in the rich world we have. The rich get most of that back in lower income, property, estate and other taxes than overseas.
The last damn thing that corporations or those who are running them need right now is another fucking tax cut!! What have they been getting for the last decade?? If anything, we need to jack their taxes alot higher so they start paying their fair share as part of a move toward a much more progressive taxation system. It would help if the world get its act together and start regulating this crap globally so they couldn't then send their ill gotten wealth overseas to the cheapest tax shelter
Yeah, I love the Resident, but oops, I have to go with you, breaks0, on this one. The rich don't give away extra money, or they wouldn't be rich in the first place. Cut worker's wage taxes instead - it's grossly unfair.
I think you're not thought through on this issue at all. First of all, regardless of any "research" - anyone who runs a $1 million / year corporation or higher knows you are REQUIRED by law to do do whatever you can to make money for shareholders. To do that you pay as little everything as you can no matter what your taxes are. What would be most effective is to limit the crazy special deals the top top companies get and mostly to spend taxed dollars more EFFECTIVELY.
You're off base on this one, Lori. While we may have higher corporate tax rates than many countries, a lot, if not most, companies don't actually pay them. They incorporate themselves overseas and avoid paying the taxes at all. For example, by incorporating itself in Bermuda a U.S.-based corporation can (without moving its headquarters or anything else) shelter its overseas profits from taxation. The are engaged in legal tax evasion made possible through tax loopholes.
I like your other videos better. You're oversimplifying the corporate tax issue. On paper the US has one of the highest nominal corporate tax rates but in practice it's actually lower than most other countries because the US tax laws allow more expense deductions. Plus, it's naive to assume that cutting the corporate taxes will have a direct impact on wages.
Thanks fenixssanai! I'm not really proposing a solution here, just pointing to the problem, really. So I agree with you on this one. I have no idea how to fix the tax issues in this country, except for people to stop being so damn greedy! haha
How about getting real and ending the income tax completely. When the 16th Amend was passed the popular consensus was that wages were not considered income. The real problem is that income was never defined, and the IRS only discriminates based upon the tax break given by congress. So why doesn't congress define income? Why isn't income defined as earnings or gains from investments, CD's, stocks, etc.? Because that would free wage earners from gov interference in their lives. Repeal the 16 Amend
Could we use taxes to encourage girls to wear slutty clothing?
I love your take on the great discussion. I am sick of the Obamaphiles. So, for me anyway, I can handle Obama better when people are speaking rationally rather than gushing on and on about him. Yeah, yeah, I know, nothing to do with this video. What are you trying to do - learn people stuff?
Finally we get to the bottom of the barrel, when a CEO makes 50 mil a year it affects the economy, when you buy a pair of tennis shoes made in China it affects our economy, when 5 mil illegal aliens loose their jobs of course it affects the economy, when the goverment goes to war it affects our economy, when we support every other allied in the world it affects our economy and when resources are depleated it affects the economy, monopoly is bad for the economy, selfish society is killing America
uhm, sorry, but this is one of your less useful videos. why not do something about the real problem of the USA? the ridiculous national dept for example? see "US Government Immorality Will Lead to Bankruptcy" here on youtube.
Is it ironic, they all tell you to SPEND money to save the economy when it was a failure to SAVE that was a big cause of the credit crisis in the first place.
Every two weeks I get paid around 2854.00, how much of that do I see in my bank account deposited? Only 1502.00 do the math. God Bush really fucked up our economy.
The most important issue about taxes is whether they are value for money. What do you actually get for your tax dollar in USA? Here in Australia we get free health care, roads, schools, hospitals, a comprehensive social security system. Norway is possibly the highest taxed population in the world, but they have the highest standard of living, completely free health care from cradle to grave, everyone has a job, free university and NO homelessness. Think about it.
I'm on the Strategy Room on foxnews online, live from three to four pm, eastern time. Just go to their site and you can tune in live and they read comments as we go. I'm on tomorrow from one to three, too.
I wouldnt want to live in Norway because i wouldn't have any money to spend on myself if i'm sort of rich i would go there if i was poor though bet you there's a lot of poor people in Norway Australias not that bad but everything there is crazy ass expensive Im only living in the us until the dollar collapses entirely im moving to Poland
if we reduce our defense budget which now runs at 600 billion dollars then the govt wouldnt need so much taxes...thats my 2 cents worth....you the resident are so cute..there i said it again
that's not true.. the US has the largest loopholes in the world. In essence the largest corporations in the USA pay the less tax (many pay none such as Haliburton).
Do you think folds are are going to tell you if they pay no taxes?
Over one third of our population pays no taxes. More folks should be taxed so they would have a sense of ownership in the nation. Also, everyone should have to fill out their own tax returns, so they would see how absurd the tax code is.
America needs to start taxing carbon. Carbon creates global warming, the world including America needs to cut back on the burning of fossil fuels. Tax the production of carbon and improve energy efficiency.
If we keep the jobs in the USA we would not have to pay as much taxes as we do now and if everyone had to pay taxes on Wall Street sell offs we would not have to pay any taxes.
What you fail to mention is that 2/3 of the publicly traded companies pay NO TAX AT ALL!!!!

It reminded me of the line from the self-described humanitarian dude in Africa in "Mine Your Own Business" that basically said people there were too simple to know the value of money but instead they traded in smiles.

Enjoy it!

You failed to mention executive compensation is included in your statement higher taxes means lower wages. The real fact is few corporations today actually pay taxes. I am an employee of a major corporation and I pay more taxes than the corporation I work for does.
Twostones69 3 years ago

At the end of a sale, there is a sales tax, which I thought was used to cover their taxes.
kenne210 3 years ago
Why would you Resident, vote for a person who will tax these corporations, and in fact force them to move their operations overseas. Corporations will be unable to not only increase the wages of their workers, but hire new workers and expand their operations which means more opportunity for the average Joe. Corporations that stay here, spend their profits here along with their workers.
reg4321 3 years ago
Since corporate taxes are so high in the U.S, wouldn't it be beneficial to lower those taxes to keep corporations in the U.S? Why is Obama so adamant about corporations moving overseas, when in fact corporations here are the taxed at the second highest rate in the world. Americans paying lower taxes regardless of what income class you are in, is always a good thing. It means less money for the government to waste, steal, and mismanage..
reg4321 3 years ago
Yeah, the savings corporations get from a lower income tax will obviously mean higher wages for workers! [/sarcasm]

I think we need to eliminate both the loopholes on corporate taxes, have a land tax, return tariffs and at the same time eliminate income taxes. Because how much does it cost for the IRS to organize, maintain and keep track of the millions of taxpayers?
crowman1979 3 years ago

Resident says: increase corporate tax x% => x% decrease in workers salary.
However:
Lower corporate taxes x% wont result in x% increase in workers salary. Since companies always will find other pockets to fill.
So if the government want to increase the workers netincome:
Keep the corporate tax as it is and give a taxcredit/refund to the workers.
This will redistribute some of the income to the lower classes and improve their consuming.
Increased consuming will help the economy.
vingard 3 years ago 2
That's a good idea man! The problem is definitely how the corporations decide to distribute the wealth. However there is statistical evidence that does point to lower corporate taxes having a direct correlation with an increase in wages. I still think that's a good idea you have though! :) I mean, either way.

so... should we vot McCain now?
damirkhuzha 3 years ago
Well, you should vote for whomever you feel is right! Both candidates' tax plans involve corporate taxation, one giving more cuts to companies with more money than the other. :) Obama still has my vote - especially since I think both candidates will end up with very different tax plans than what they're promising now. Why? Because the bottom line is taxes aren't going away - all their other policies require funding.
theresident 3 years ago
good answer. I also believe the views of the candidates on taxes will change once one of them is in the office (so will on foreign policy). A. There should be no Taxes

So a US citizen that get the same things as a dane does, pays on average almost 100% more for these things. And we in Denmark ALL get education, medi care and old age care taking and much much more. In US only those with money gets these things.
Think about that!

Compared to my country americans pay almost NO taxes.
But again, durign a lifetime a human needs the following:
Education
Medi care
Old peoples care taking

1happiness 3 years ago
Do you realize the right wing anti-poor implications of what you're suggesting?? It's pretty obvious that we should be doing the exact opposite of what you're suggesting. First off, what is your source that corporate income taxes are 2nd highest in the rich world? 2nd, if that really hurt the poor so badly by itself, then we wouldn't have by far the worst wealth distribution in the rich world we have. The rich get most of that back in lower income, property, estate and other taxes than overseas.
breaks0 3 years ago
The last damn thing that corporations or those who are running them need right now is another fucking tax cut!! What have they been getting for the last decade?? If anything, we need to jack their taxes alot higher so they start paying their fair share as part of a move toward a much more progressive taxation system. It would help if the world get its act together and start regulating this crap globally so they couldn't then send their ill gotten wealth overseas to the cheapest tax shelter

What would be most effective is to limit the crazy special deals the top top companies get and mostly to spend taxed dollars more EFFECTIVELY.

nooraalhilwa 3 years ago
You're off base on this one, Lori. While we may have higher corporate tax rates than many countries, a lot, if not most, companies don't actually pay them. They incorporate themselves overseas and avoid paying the taxes at all. For example, by incorporating itself in Bermuda a U.S.-based corporation can (without moving its headquarters or anything else) shelter its overseas profits from taxation. The are engaged in legal tax evasion made possible through tax loopholes.
thecobra39 3 years ago 3
I like your other videos better. You're oversimplifying the corporate tax issue. On paper the US has one of the highest nominal corporate tax rates but in practice it's actually lower than most other countries because the US tax laws allow more expense deductions. Plus, it's naive to assume that cutting the corporate taxes will have a direct impact on wages.

How about a consumption tax...repeal the 16th Amendment.
Progressive taxes on all purchases...low rates for basic items like food. Higher rates for non-essential purchases, kind of like a luxury tax.
JHancock1776 3 years ago
How about getting real and ending the income tax completely. When the 16th Amend was passed the popular consensus was that wages were not considered income. The real problem is that income was never defined, and the IRS only discriminates based upon the tax break given by congress. So why doesn't congress define income? Why isn't income defined as earnings or gains from investments, CD's, stocks, etc.? Because that would free wage earners from gov interference in their lives. Repeal the 16 Amend
