You can skew the test very EZ u clean the shaft with acetone and it stops fast or spray oil on the shaft and you can't stop it !!! Same with bone or hide test !!! Silicone spray on broadhead and shaft you can shoot threw a chevy 350 lol I use spray lubricant on my hunting arrows .
Just for clarification on Syrano2005's comment: the top of the ruler blocks the bottom of the gelatin making it look like the penetration was impeded when it actually wasn't. It would be the angle of the arrow entering the gelatin that would be in question, not the base of the gelatin. Same affect; wrong cause.

in the first test the montec penetrated deeper than the reaper. and for the amount of "tissue cut" that just depends on the width of the broadhead. i have personally used both the g5 montec and the grim reaper and the montec has always out performed the grim reaper.

Also in both videos competitors broadheads were shot on angles which does not show the true depth. Out of the two videos two of the competitors heads hit the bottom creating drag which will affect the true depth. The true test is to shoot both through bone on an angle. Fixed broadheads do not lose any energy trying to deploy like a mec

That's all fine and dandy until you accidently pull your shot off just a couple inches, and hit an animal in the shoulder. Sure, they may go through some ballistics gel, but mechanicals open too wide, and aren't effective if you hit any major bones. Personally, i'll stick with my 125 grain Muzzy fixed 3-blade broadheads. I know for a fact they'll crush through a deer's shoulder, i've done it before.
Test is indeed a bit skewed. They should not have been comparing a muzzy four blade to other 3 blade broadheads which would naturally produce more drag. Using these tactics has to lead one to believe they have an inferiority complex about there product. Have shot muzzy's four years but cant get them to fly well outta my switchback so am looking at new broadheads. Anybody think rage are not the way to go??

Deer are only so wide on a broadside shot.......Look and see that the mechanicals dont start cutting until the blades open after about 3 or 4 inches into the animal...That means you dont get much cutting on the first lung...however they are more accurate
Where is the bone material to compare to? The proof is in the pudding after your get thru the bone. I have tested them before and they did not fare well after passing thru a bone sustitute. My personal favorite is the G5 Montec. I have passed thru and killed 5 deer with the same broadhead. All I do is sharpen it for the next round.
@syrano2005 I noticed that myself. Even if it wasn't intentional, I noticed it shot fairly low and it wouldn't be a fair test. Not to mention the other two arrows were angled down while they made the 'grim reaper' go in more straight.

I missed the buck of my life while using a grim reaper. They are JUNK!!!! I use rage 2-Blade and shot 2 does one went 13 yards the other 23 yards. Too bad I didn't use Rage on the Buck.

I like how that carpet is in the way of entry point. Because you will notice the retractable does not open after entry till maybe 1 or more inches into the gel. So you have a field point entry then an expanded cut, the broadhead will allow faster bleed out.
notice that they used a 4 blade Muzzy and a 3 blade reaper. of course 4 blades drag more than 3. retest with a 3 blade Muzzy 125 and see what happens.
good, now stick a nice tough piece of leather in front of the gelatin block, and stick some bones in it, and hit it at an angle like you would on a quartering shot and THEN lets see how the mechanicals perform!
i agree they should have done this at an angle to show how mechanicals open at an angle (very inefficiant). as opposed to cut on contacts, which have a large entry whole and a large exit whole. and the sharper they are the more the animal bleeds making it a quicker more ethical kill, and easier to find the animal after the shot
exactly josef. the grim reaper entrance would be way to small. and if you dont have a perfectly placed shot and dont get a complete pass thru you have very little to no blood trail to follow. Thats why a cut on contact is better. I would also like to see this test done where the shots are at an angle with a simulated ribcage and we see who prevails.
The exit hole is enough to track...I have shot only about 3 deer with these heads and yes the entrance hole is smaller but the exit hole is quite large leaving me enough blood to track. They do shoot through scapulas and rib cages with fur and balistics gel check out some more videos. Also check out the one where they shoot plywood at a angle. These are good blades, they beat out other brand for me and I've been hunting for a while and have used many differn't kinds.
Actually no, the person was slowly pushing the tip against a hide with no bone or dense meat behind it, making the hide cave in an unnatural distance providing area for the blades to open. Look at the gellatin videos and you see them open an inch after entering. I have also personally tested shooting them through an apple and then cross examined the apple revealing the blades opening and inch after entrance.
They shoot the fixed blades at an angle and then shoot it flat for the grim reaper. It also looked like one of the fixed blades even scraped against surface the gellatin was on.
i think that mostly if you do find a fixed that is better than mechanicals the mechanicals will still cause more blood

i shoot razor tip these and took my first buck at 40yrds and hit one lung and ran a 100yrds... it doesnt matter what you shoot i guess its what works with your bow and shafts and what your comfortable with

Looks to me like the Muzzy was the best.
All the other broadheads dipped the muzzy flew straight and went the farthest.
The only other broadhead worth credit would be the hades but seeing how it went into the muzzys hole I think the muzzy actually beat it.

lolol - I bought 3 dozen arrows for $80. 2 packs of 36 Blazer vanes for $7, 10 tubes of super-glue for $5, an E-Z fletcher for $35. and used Mathews bow for $300 and will end up with a few hundred lbs of meat from deer and bear. Not to mention the experience of hunting and BBQing with my friends.
I'm looking at just over $1\lbs.... cheaper next year because I dont need to buy arrows and a bow again.
It's much cheaper than buying meat at the store, and tastes better!

Oh, and cruelty is a made up human concept. Animals (yes, we're animals too) don't think about feelings when they're trying to eat another animal. It's not cruel when a lion eats a zebra. We are human animals who should know what is the right thing and what is the wrong thing to do. Plus we are anatomically designed for plants not for meat so you do not have to kill like the carnivores such as lion. If they do not eat they will die plus lions do not have to "let the deer layup and die" like hunters particularly bowhuters do so as to not spook the deer even when wounded. Hunters are the number one contributor to wildlife conservation. They care about being able to enjoy the sport with their families for years to come and if we were to stop, it would be FAR more harmful for the animals than if we were to continue.
Hunters maintain the Carrying capacity of any given habitat. E.G. - If we didn't kill deer, coyote populations would get out of control and end up killing off other species. Just because we're humans doesn't mean we don't fit into the Food chain...

I like how that carpet is in the way of entry point. Because you will notice the retractable does not open after entry till maybe 1 or more inches into the gel. So you have a field point entry then an expanded cut, the broadhead will allow faster bleed out.

i agree they should have done this at an angle to show how mechanicals open at an angle (very inefficiant). as opposed to cut on contacts, which have a large entry whole and a large exit whole. and the sharper they are the more the animal bleeds making it a quicker more ethical kill, and easier to find the animal after the shot

exactly josef. the grim reaper entrance would be way to small. and if you dont have a perfectly placed shot and dont get a complete pass thru you have very little to no blood trail to follow. Thats why a cut on contact is better. I would also like to see this test done where the shots are at an angle with a simulated ribcage and we see who prevails.

The exit hole is enough to track...I have shot only about 3 deer with these heads and yes the entrance hole is smaller but the exit hole is quite large leaving me enough blood to track. They do shoot through scapulas and rib cages with fur and balistics gel check out some more videos. Also check out the one where they shoot plywood at a angle. These are good blades, they beat out other brand for me and I've been hunting for a while and have used many differn't kinds.

Actually no, the person was slowly pushing the tip against a hide with no bone or dense meat behind it, making the hide cave in an unnatural distance providing area for the blades to open. Look at the gellatin videos and you see them open an inch after entering. I have also personally tested shooting them through an apple and then cross examined the apple revealing the blades opening and inch after entrance.

They shoot the fixed blades at an angle and then shoot it flat for the grim reaper. It also looked like one of the fixed blades even scraped against surface the gellatin was on.
