As far as my truck is concerned it's simple by rule with a small block 302, HEI dist., a good cam, mechanical (by rule) fuel pump, locked Ford 9" rear.
As for tips; you'll first need to make certain your following the build rules for where you intend to race. The number one thing those starting ourt struggle with is gears. This willl depend on your track, the over all size, straights etc., find out what people are sucessful running at your intended track that have a similar setups. Good Luck
