Jesus, why were there so many tourists and beggars? I was there last week. Thank God. The situation was much better. There were still poor ppl, esp. poor kids following us around but no beggars on the road. Plus, there were not as many tourists when i visited there. That's cool!

The apsarasas( angels) have local facial features.The French, who discovered these structures, gave all wrong spellings- its not khmer but Meru, the name of mountain considered centre of earth; Rouge for Raj, the rulers are Meru, hindu believers

Does anyone really know why the temple is oriented to the west? What's the significance?

The reason that Angkor Wat is oriented to the west because king suryavarman II preferred Angkor Wat as his funerary temple, and in the eastern, there is siem reap stream, which makes us difficult to get in to the temple. This what I have learnt, if anyone has any more ideas please post.

i hear that too many people are visiting angkor temple and they're wearing it out some parts of the rocks are so soft if you touch it it'll shatter. so they're going close it down and allow visits on certain days and times not sure. i just recently went and it looks like they're fixing up parts of it.

I like the little place where you hit you chest and hear an echo. i mean ya know there is a whole somewhere there but heyy. it was fun. i justr hated the stairs sorta inside-ish the temple. but when i went i can never stand the heat. and i went to bayon.

the stairs have a story to it too, to reach Heaven, its HIGH, and hard.. if you cant climb it, then you cant reach to heaven.. somewhat like that.. Monks are use to it, climb it like its nothing..

Tomb Raider Theme cause the 2001 movie Lara Croft : Tomb Raider has some cuts filmed there, at Angkor. Though, it was Angkor Thom, Bayon and Ta Prom, and not Agkor Wat...but who cares.
