  • Forgive my ignorance but why does Balinese gamelan sound rather sinister and "scary" as opposed to Javanese gamelan? Dont get me wrong, I love Balinese gamelan and I think it is very beautiful. I know it is my ears that are making such a mistake and that to the people of Bali, Im sure they would probably disagree with me.

Like I said, I think that Bali dance and music is beautiful nevertheless. It is its uniqueness that gives its beauty.

  • What a beautiful and dynamic dance! Thanks !

  • erm can i know.tari topeng is what?

    aaa. hehe

  • tari topeng is "mask(topeng) dance(tari)"

  • Topeng and Baris are so difficult to do with taped music.

  • I bet... instead of you leading the gamelan, the gamelan is leading you. haha.

  • thats true

i love when i dance and the gamelan have to follow me..

i hate to follow the tape

    lol

  • i dance the tari telek, it sometimes is to hot behind the mask hahaha, it;s like a sauna. but it's stil fun to dance. to dance with a topeng on your face is not so easy as it seems like.

  • I really respect this art form but the mask is kinda scary! Is there anything w/ a happy mask? :)

  • Haha. Yes, there are some dances with "happier" masks. I have a video of "Telek" which I'll post in the future. This dance uses less formidable looking masks. A great number of masked dances do look formidable though, especially those that depicts demons or beasts. Thanks for watching :)
