  • i agree with bmanmatterdaddy to an extent but modern guitars are finished with a Polyurethane finishes which would take a hundred years of hard hard wear to make it look for example like a relic strat i.e. rory galagher artist model or john mayers relic strat

    gd point tho

  • lol trying to make it look like Jaco Pastorius bass I see =D

  • I hope you guys aren't part of the repair department!LOL Lesson #1; Never drag a file back & forth to remove material. All you did was dull the file teeth. Work the file in the direction that "cuts" only! The successful "relic" jobs are done by individuals who've seen 1,000's of original guitars and Know where & to what degree the wear occurs. How many "relics" have you done to date? Did the client eventually pay you?

cheers & learn some fundamental woodworking skills. This yer legacy? OUCH!

  • Well I completely and utterly agree with that whole business of the file. I cant tell you how many files I've been through. I have a filing cabinet full of DULL files. I often file through them and keep a record of them on file at my local police station. Protect and Serve and Protect, but more importantly, Serve, man!

  • well although i wont end up buying a reliced guitar, not everyone has the time to play a bass for 7 hours a day to get it to look how they want or the money for a authentic vintage guitar so relicing is the next best option.

  • i hate guys who hate guys that does shit to their own instruments...LET HIM DO WHATEVER HE WANTS TO WHATEVER HE WANTS! it doesnt affect u....

  • there is kinda of a different look between years and years of your arm wearing the guitar paint down and filer

  • do these people work at the store?

  • Omg amaters

  • you suck man, you're not a musician or a bassist, you're just a motherfucker that doesn't know the real values of this instrument. you're good to throw away, you deserved to be "relicied" more than your guitar

  • kiss my ass

  • you fuckin idot just treat the bass like shit 4 6 years and ull have relic

  • Or you be a real musician and wear it out after 30 years of playing hard gigs. And if you say you don't have the time to do it then why play in the first place if not to have the skill stay with you for a life time?

this comment is not directed at any one in particular

  • RETARD !

  • oh, great...another shitty relic job

  • thumbs up! why RELIC is equaled to WREAKAGE?? Only god understands them, americans.

Hope this was done by dudes who got beaten for what thef done with this same bass, bu the owner.

Btw i doubt smartness of those who confuse improving with ruining, having a smelly old beat up crashed tripper guitar is so punk, why do people blab about how Vintage-ish it looks, because these are two oposite things. A Vintage is never something out of dumpster! It's a treasured icon! If not a memory.

  • These guys don't sound like Americans. Stupid ass.

  • ur a retard haha

  • i think relicing guitars is pretty fun and they look cool....but only if you do it the right way.

  • Un relic fatto con il culo. Si vede lontano un chilometro che non è autentico.

  • put gasoline...let it burnnn!! Tom Morello did it with his GIBSON...so did HendriX ;)

  • ... I'd like to do some "relicing" on you <3

  • ...dei dementi!!!

  • i couldn't do this to my strat i rather wait for next 30 yrs might even learn to play it in that time :DD

  • Why did you spit on it

  • Its a real Fender I have same Bass with all the wiring exposed and the fucking great hole I was ripped off too.

  • Its not a mexican Bass its an all piece of shit American made Fender Jazz I should know I wasted my money on one I took the scratch plate off so it would look like Jaco's Bass and wtf a huge hole and exposed wiring same as the one in the vid nice one Fender, quality LOL Iv played better cheapers bass guitars its all hype Fenders are shit.

  • i want to fukin kill u do u know how many people would kill for that bass u coksukers INSTRUMENTS HAVE FEELINGS TOO!!!!!!!

  • If you think you're doing something good here you're really mentaly retarded. I wouldn't take that guitar home even if some lod payed me to do it...

  • its opinion man...

  • i for one think relic guitars look great

  • its like watching someone being tortured

  • this is my exact bass, i really want to do this, just go to town on it ya know!!

  • Erm, why are you at a guitar store? I hope they gave you permission.

  • i think they are shop assistants :D

  • Whats wrong by simply playing the hell out if it for six months and not using a case.

  • cause that doesn't always work, especially on thick poly finishes like this.

  • It will never work on thick poly. Play it for 50 years.

  • what would happen if you burned the paint of a guitar for a few seconds?

  • that hurts.

  • omg how can u do such thing. its ment to play a song not to be torchered. Were u guys high or something. like i know u guys own alot of guitars but why'd u guys do it?

  • even though people dislike this i actually think u guys are legends !!!! it looks cool and plus its cheaper thn paying like 4000 pounds for a relic !!!!

  • i pitty the idiot who buys that

  • I've rarely seen such idiots. Nuff said.

  • This sort of thing is becoming a sick disease!

  • It's a p*ss take. a mexican j bass is a piece of wooden shit with strings on. hitting in with a file and scratching it to fu*k is all thats worth doing to it as playing one is out of the question. anyone who does not get this is retarded. OK?

  • Jaco must be turning in his grave and this really is excellent advertisement for your shop, i think some people are gonna be losing jobs/going out of business pretty soon.

  • I really hope you die.

  • well said

  • For God's sake... you know that poly-coated basses will never EVER relic like that, right? You know the only reason Jaco's bass was all beat up was because it was finished in nitro, right?

  • Ha ha stupid twats

  • bunch of merchant bankers...

  • u at gak?

  • I dont know if you guys have seen the paint job on jaco's and the mexican made Fenders. They even have a different paint job. JAco's had a bit more red and a different shade of brown on it than Mexican Fenders do.

  • i'm also pretty sure jaco's jazz had better routing aswell...

  • stupid ass english people, "and it still works", no shit, you didn't cut the strings off dumbass. that may be the most disgusting thing i've ever seen, i almost threw up watching this

  • dumb red neck yankee son of a bitch guantanamo bay human rights abusing tit. As you can see we did cut the strings and it worked very well by crickey. Mother.

  • haha thats funny, im a yankee and a redneck. I abuse human rights, huh, at least i didnt take a whole country away from native americans. dicklicking bisexual european tight pant striped shirt wearing fucker. FUCK YOU, YOU FUCK

  • oh dear.. let's see - your independence treaty was signed on july 4th 1774 so from that point on it was Americans killing natives (who by the way, helped you undeserving bastards out when you were starving) honestly if you don't even know your own history it is hardly any wonder that you cannot recognise a decent relic - i am making a fortune making people look older and selling them as relics on ebey. I do not wear tight anythings fuck head. love and out by crickey. Mother.

  • jesus christ, at least my coountry has history, you live in a country full of pussies who dont brush their teeth and are afraid to fight "please dont hurt us, lets talk about it and work it out" assface

  • Now i think that you had too much sugar in your breakfast this morning didn't you - getting all obstreperous. Admit it, you are just jealous as i am more beautiful than you. By crikey. Mother.

  • hehe...you're deluded.

  • You've got the internet (presumably) and this is the most disgusting thing you've seen! Well really.

  • You think that is the most disgusting thing you've ever seen? It's a cheap bass being scuffed up a bit. Hardly a crime and not really enough to make someone throw up! I don't understand why people are taking offence to this: It's a cheapish bass being bashed up to look used. Each to there own eh?

  • I think its the real deal I have the same fender J bass except mine has throught the body strings better machine heads and reinforced graphite neck.I also have the fucking hole under the scratch plate too, really pissed me off.

  • you should relic the neck an the chrome hardware to

  • for me, i'll let it get "reliced" by itself, why speed the process up, plus worn paint doesn't look bad, but big dents and gouges

  • ....look EVEN better. It's always better to speed up a process like this. ALWAYS. The quicker you get the job done, the quicker it looks good. Then you can sell it for more, quicker. It's a quick rushed cash cow bass job. A little tip: a quick tear in the case is cash in the bank.

  • Wow, do you guys like to waste money...?

  • NO! We sold it for TWICE what we paid for it after this relic'ing process. Relic guitars are worth MORE! Money.

  • Wow what a waste. You cannot replicate Jaco's bass with a mexican one. The neck pickup bay is cut differently, and without a pickguard it shows.

Also its a JAZZ BASS, not a PRECISION BASS.

  • It's a JAZZ BASS! It is EXACTLY like Jaco's bass. EXACT. You can't even test. The neck pickup bay window is EXACTLY like Jaco's. It DOESN'T show without a pickguard. JACO = MEXICO. Jaxico. FOOL!

  • thats not true at all. the neck pickup on Jaco's bass was not routed out as it is on the Mexican Jazz Basses. the wood was flush underneath the pickguard, as was obvious by the fact that (for the vast majority of their touring life) Jaco's basses *never* had pickguards on them. Fender routes the Mexican J-Basses like the one in the video because it saves them time and money.

Google for pictures, you'll see what i mean.

  • Look tit-muncher, it has no pickup bay window, it costs far to much to fit upvc double glazing to a guitar of this caliber, we did have to flush the wood under the pickgard but this was only because it was starting to smell, Jaco's basses *always* had pickguards on them if you can't see them then your blind or stupid.

    peace!

  • you. must. be. joking.

jaco *never, ever, ever* used a pickguard. twit.

  • He was a walking human-type pickguard. but now he's dead. If you look through the small ads shorlty before his untimely AND fatal death, you will see he was advertising his services as a pickguard. google it! it reads something like this: "My name is Jaco and I will guard your picks while you're away. I will give them back when you come home (you have to collect). reasonable rates." That is proof. FACT. you can't disprove it SO it must be true.

  • Jaco did use a pickguard early on when he first started playing bass. Around 1970 he started taking them off his basses after he bought one from a friend that had no pickguard.

  • when i was speaking, i was talking of his "playing out" career. His solo album (along with Weather Report debut) was 1976. In 1970, he was still playing in local bands around Ft. Launderdale. So yes, you are correct. But for his professional career, he never used one.

  • stop laughing lil girls damnit

  • You should never - NEVER - relic lil girls. Not even mexican ones. That's sick.

  • Painfull to watch, but yet beautiful !

  • Damn Brits...

  • Damp wrists....
