China and India are slated to boost economic cooperation and mutual trust through dialogue as bilateral trade surges, officials said Monday at the one-day first meeting of China-India Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) in Beijing.
China and India face similar problems as both countries undergo rapid industrialization and urbanization, said Zhang Ping, head of the National Development and Reform Commission, the country's top economic planner.
The SED, which is partly aimed at boosting mutual trust, will enhance cooperation between China and India in various fields and help the two countries find solutions to common problems, Zhang said.
This will help promote the long-term economic development of the two economies and will have a profound impact on people in China and India, Zhang said.
Closer cooperation will not only benefit the two countries, but also help improve the power and confidence of all developing countries, he said.
The healthy development of the Chinese and Indian economies will exert a positive influence on the growth and recovery of not only Asia, but also the rest of the world, Zhang added.
Montek Singh Ahluwalia, deputy chairman of the Planning Commission of India, said the strategic dialogue reflects enhanced economic engagement between the two countries
"As we try to take our relationship to a new level, a further opening of markets and improvement of investment climate are challenges that we need to address together," Ahluwalia said.
He said the growing India-China relationship is an important element of changes that are taking place in the global order.
"As emerging economies, we are making our viewpoint increasingly felt on important global issues," Ahluwalia said.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh agreed to establish a regular bilateral strategic economic dialogue mechanism during Wen's visit to India last December.
@lycopene1 When my grandfather was in Tibet in the 1940s for missionary work, Tibet was already a part of China while the CCP did not enter Tibet then. My grandfather saw there were slaves under the Dalai Lama's brutal serfdom back then, and he saw thousands of Tibetan slaves had been killed by the Dalai Lama. That's a FACT that there were slaves under the Dalai Lama and Tibet is part of China. That's what my grandfather told me.
In a release today, the Dharamshala based Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) said that Samphel Dhondup, 23 was sentenced to three years in jail by a Chinese court in Kardze, Tibet in August.
Samphel Dhondup was arrested by the Kardze Public Security Bureau along with two other Tibetans, Lobsang Phuntsok (17) and Lobsang Lhundup on July 10. Their whereabouts had remained unknown until the sentencing.
Generally speaking, such sort of expressions are childish. Those officials who use those words, I think they want to show the Chinese government that the Dalai Lama is so bad. And I think also that they are hoping to reach the Tibetans. They want 100 percent negative. So they use these words. They actually disgrace themselves. I mean, childish! Very foolish! Nobody believes them.
Why do the Chinese demonize you by calling you things like a “devil” or a “wolf in monk’s robes”? Is there a reason they speak about you in such archaic language?
All religions teach moral precepts for perfecting the functions of mind, body, and speech. All teach us not to lie or steal or take others' lives, and so on. The common goal of all moral precepts laid down by the great teachers of humanity is unselfishness. The great teachers wanted to lead their followers away from the paths of negative deeds caused by ignorance, and to introduce them to paths of goodness.
"I maintain that every major religion of the world--Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism, Sikhism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism--has similar ideals of love; the same goal of benefiting humanity through spiritual practice, and the same effect of making their followers into better human beings.
If you said that from your heart, maybe someone would listen. However, since you are paid by the river crabs to support the Crab Policitcal Party, it's hard to take you seriously!!
The Dalai Lama says kind things to Chinese people all day; while at the same time, Chinese political thugs are forbidding Tibetan schoolteachers from using photocopiers.
Since then, monasteries and nunneries in the region have been facing growing restrictions from the Chinese authorities.
Chemi Tenzin, a monk at Ganden monastery in south India and a native of Tawu told Phayul that “the Chinese authorities had cut off electricity and water supply to Nyitso monastery and nunnery in Tawu since His Holiness’ birthday celebrations.”
Last month, Tibetans in Tawu led by the nuns of Ganden Jangchup Choeling had defied governmental restrictions and came out in strength to celebrate the 76th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Citing sources in the region, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported that Tibetan laypeople and monks at the monastery were unhappy when they heard about the proposed visit.
“For now, because of widespread discontent among the local Tibetans—both laypeople and the monks at Labrang—preparations appear to have been suspended,” RFA quoted a Tibetan man from Labrang as saying.
"We have to look up to the Sangha, but not as far as to the Buddhas. The Sangha make us think: "This person is not that far ahead of me. If I just make a bit more effort. . . ." They give us confidence for spiritual practice. Sometimes they make us feel like we can even race them to enlightenment. These are the Sangha of spiritual friends.

The relationship between Australia and China is very positive and constructive, with strong links in the economy, people-to-people exchanges and international forums, the Australian prime minister said here on Wednesday.
Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who is paying a four-day visit to China, told reporters that she came "against the backdrop of a positive relationship and a very strong economic relationship between the two countries."
"I am satisfied that I have been able to have productive and friendly discussions while staying here. There have been some direct, practical outcomes from the visit," Gillard said.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks on Tuesday with Gillard. Both leaders witnessed the signing of five cooperative deals, including a 600-million US dollar deal on financing for an iron ore project of Western Australia' s Karara Mining, Ltd.
Gillard attended the China-Australia Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum on Tuesday with Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang. She also met with Chinese President Hu Jintao on Wednesday.
Gillard said she agreed with Premier Wen and President Hu that Australia and China would work together to increase the economic links between the two countries, particularly through continuing discussions on their free trade agreement.
"I am very confident the economic relationship between the two countries is good for both of us," Gillard said, indicating that a productive trade with Australia's sale of energy resources to China has helped feed China's spectacular economic growth.
Gillard said Australia welcomes Chinese investment in Australia. "We have a system where we assist foreign investment proposals the same way China does, on a case-by-case basis."
The Australia-China relationship is also growing with more tourism and more Chinese students in Australia, Gillard said.
Gillard, who will attend an opera on Wednesday night, said cultural exchanges are very important for both countries.
The memorandum of understanding on the reciprocal years of culture (2010-2012) between China and Australia is "a terrific initiative to help the people of both countries to better understand the culture of the other country," Gillard said.
Under the program, the Year of Australian Culture in China was scheduled from 2010 to 2011, and the Year of Chinese Culture in Australia will be held from 2011 to 2012.
"Of course, China, with this ancient culture, has a lot to share and showcase in Australia over the next few months," Gillard said.
Further, Gillard said both countries have strong links in international forums such as the G20 and the APEC.
'Both Australia and China certainly share the view that it is important that the G20, at the top level, be the primary economic forum in the world, and draws on our collaboration so that the world can overcome the negative impacts of the global financial crisis," Gillard said.
Australia and China are also strongly engaged in the region through the East Asia summit, which is "an important institution to look at regional issues, economic, political and security issues," Gillard said.
Relations between China and Australia get a boost when the two countries' prime ministers agreed to forge closer trade and investment links, for the benefits of tens of millions in the two biggest Asia-Pacific states.
China's Premier Wen Jiabao told visiting Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard in Beijing yesterday that the two countries ought to set up “long-term and stable strategic cooperative relationship”.
"Our relationship with China is in good shape," Gillard told reporters. "Of course, our economic relationship is a vital one for Australia's national interest, and it is growing in leaps and bounds."
Gillard said her talks focused on trade and investment, and also speeding up negotiations on a free trade agreement.
Under the auspicious of the two leaders, ministers of the two governments signed signed a series of cooperation agreements, which are intended to strengthen economic ties. The deals signed cover cooperation in trade, tourism, science and mining.
China buys more than a quarter of Australian exports, having overtaken Japan as the country's largest trading partner in 2009. Two-way annual trade has now passed A$100 billion (US$107 billion), up from A$57 billion in 2009.
Opening their discussions, Wen reaffirmed the importance of China's relations with Australia, saying that "we have always seen Australia as an important partner in our win-win relationship".
He also encouraged bilateral cooperation in the research, development and utilization of new, clean and renewable energy, and in the fields of information networks, rail systems and ports.
Gillard's trip is her first to China since taking her post in June and seeks to set a new tone for relations following some spats over human rights and Chinese businesses' investment in Australia under her predecessor, current Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd.
Gillard said that Australia welcomes more Chinese students and tourists and greater investment, despite a number of controversial incidents in the past.
In 2009, China Nonferrous Metals Mining Group Co Ltd was blocked by Australian government from buying a controlling stake in rare earths miner Lynas Corp.
Australia also stymied China Minmetals Corporation's bid for Oz Minerals' Prominent Hill copper and gold mine because the mine was believed to be too close to a defense rocket range.
Gillard is the first Australian prime minister to visit China in three years.

Dharamsala, April 16 – The Tibetan leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has called on the international community, governments around the world and international NGOs to persuade China to “exercise restraint” in dealing with the situation in Tibet’s Ngaba region that has remained tense since Tuesday following confrontation between local population and Chinese troops.
FREE THE TIBETANS FROM CHINESE OCCUPATION!!!!!!!!
@MARICYAI All this Free Tibet nonsense is pathetic. If you want to free Tibet so badly then go fight the Chinese on the field of battle and prove your Legitimacy by winning. If you Win you are Right, if you Lose you are Wrong. Simple as that. This is not a matter of debate, it is fact, if you are strong, powerful and win like the Chinese do then you are Legitimite and Right. If you get your ass kicked and cannot win, then you are wrong, like the Free Tibet Idiots are. End of Discussion.
On April 14, officials from the Ngaba Prefecture United Work Front Department had a meeting with a few monks of Kirti monastery, said the source.

“The monks put before them (the UFWD officials) their concerns and several issues including the forced closure of a school run by Kirti monastery in April 2008 but officials had not responded,” he said.

If you want to see how UNEDUCATED @NewZealandKillisTibetans is, just read his comments that are written in bad English. For example, "major main reason!' What kind of funny English is that? Dude is a White racist who harvests human organs live in New Zealand.
FREE New Zealand from harvesting human organs live.
Chinese security forces were attempting to remove some of the 2,000 monks who live at the monastery.
The situation at the influential monastery has deteriorated since the March 16 death of a monk who committed suicide on the third anniversary of anti-government unrest in the area.
Resentment against Chinese rule runs deep in Tibetan regions of China.
Police unleashed trained dogs on residents outside the monastery and beat people when they tried to prevent forces from entering the compound Tuesday, the rights group said.
According to Toner, security forces "have cordoned off the Kirti monastery."
The influx of Millions of Han Chinese and the growing restrictions on religious practice have become the biggest threats to Tibet, which faces “something like a death sentence under Chinese rule”.
Encountering sufferings will definitely contribute to the elevation of your spiritual practice, provided you are able to transform calamity and misfortune into the path.
This, however, is not just a question of morality or ethics, but a question of our own survival.
I call on you to immediately stop the siege at Kirti Monastery and order the unconditional withdrawal of troops. Forcibly removing monks from the monastery would constitute a direct violation of their internationally recognized right to religious freedom. Furthermore, your government's repressive "political re-education" campaign must be stopped.
The deteriorating situation in Tibet comes as international human rights organizations are denouncing the Chinese government's widespread crackdown against anyone who criticizes its policies. The global community overwhelmingly supports the calls for freedom by Tibetans, Chinese democracy advocates, and all those living under Beijing's authoritarian rule.
I understand the Tibetan language, all I can say is His Holy Less the Da Lie Lama is a scam artist, I am Muslim, and have no respect for the Da Lie Lama. And would like to go to Dharamshala to free the serfs who are being enslaved by the Da Lie Lama's brutal dictatorsip.

Top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin Wednesday said emphasis must be put on improving the living standards of Tibetan farmers and herdsmen.
Under the "pairing assistance" model, which was initiated 15 years ago, other provinces or cities provide technological and financial support, among other things, for the development of areas where Tibetans predominantly live.
@jimgzorn - Let's be honest, China invaded Tibet and killed many, many Tibetans, perhaps over a million thus far. China destroyed Tibetan culture and has imported hordes of Chinese people to take over their country. Why do Tibetans still demand to have their country back? Tibet is for the Tibetans, not the Chinese.

@goldie0800 Old Tibet was a country in which 5% of the population, lords and lamas, kept the other 95% as slaves, they were imprisoned and tortured in dungeons, and kept like animals. In Tibet today, something like 90% of Tibetans are literate in Tibetan while in old Tibet, only the top 5% were allowed to learn to read and write. About 10% of Tibet's population are Han Chinese. Actually, the population of Tibetans in Tibet has grown since the Chinese took over. Google - Michael Parenti & Tibet.
@jimgzorn - Have you not kept up with history? How the invasion of Tibet by the Chinese destroyed all their monasteries, killed the people mercilessly, and have had a mass migration over the years of hordes of Chinese into Tibetan country. AND . . . Why do Tibetans still demand to have their country back? Tibet is for the Tibetans, not the Chinese.
@jimgzorn - You know, this reminds me of the old saying which goes something like: It is better to have a crumb of bread and be a free man than to sit at a rich banquet and be ruled by invaders. It speaks for itself, does it not? Freedom is worth more than all the modern gadgets and diversions. Do you remember the Falkland Island invasion? The invaders brought in TVs to give to the people to placate their action of overtaking their country, which of course started a war with U.K.

@goldie0800 Why don't you look up "Michael Parenti Friendly Feudalism" online to find out what Tibet was really like under the regimes of lords and lamas. The people were absolutely not free in old Tibet, they were quite literally slaves. They could be bought and sold like animals. They were commonly imprisoned in dungeons and tortured. They could not learn how to read or write. The Chinese had to put an end to this. I think most Tibetans are glad they did.
@jimgzorn - This is a current newsclip of interest -

Tibetan protests led by Buddhist monks against Chinese rule in March 2008 gave way to torrid violence, with rioters torching shops and turning on residents, especially Han Chinese, who many Tibetans see as intruders threatening their culture.
At least 19 people died in the unrest, which sparked waves of protests across Tibetan areas. Pro-Tibet groups overseas say more than 200 people were killed in a subsequent crackdown.

@goldie0800 This is another perspective on the riots:
On March 14, 2008, under the planning and guidance of the Dalai Lama clique, a group of rioters looted and burned areas in Lhasa. The riots left at least 19 people dead and denied the autonomous region a good chance of development that year, he said.

@goldie0800 He said Tibetan Buddhism has a history of more than 1,000 years, and the reincarnation institutions of the Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama have been carried on for several hundred years.
"We must respect the historical institutions and religious rituals of Tibetan Buddhism. I am afraid it is not up to anyone to abolish the reincarnation institution or not," he added.

@goldie0800 The decease of the Dalai Lama will not exert any impact on the overall situation of Tibet, a high-ranking official said Monday.
"Of course there will be a little repercussions due to religious factors, but we will take that into consideration and will surely guarantee the long-term political stability in Tibet," said Qiangba Puncog, chairman of the Standing Committee of Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Congress, while attending the annual parliamentary session in Beijing.

@goldie0800 The new rail link, plus a new airport that opened in November, will play a vital role in boosting tourism and accelerating the transport of natural resources.
Tibet will start building another extension of the plateau railway, from Lhasa to Nyingchi, in the next five years, according to the region's plan for economic and social development in the 2011-2015 period.
@goldie0800 Xigaze, with a history of more than 600 years, is Tibet's second largest city and the traditional seat of the Panchen Lamas.
Xigaze City is the administrative center of the Tibetan prefecture of the same name, which covers 182,000 square km bordering India, Nepal and Bhutan and includes Qomolangma (also known as Mount Everest).
@goldie0800 The 253-km new line will pass through five counties and the 90-km-long Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon. Construction began in September 2010, with a budget of 13.3 billion yuan ($1.95 billion ).
The passenger and freight service will have a designed transport capacity of 8.3 million tonnes of freight annually.
@goldie0800 An extension of the world's highest railway from Tibet's capital Lhasa to its second largest city, Xigaze, will be completed by 2015, as one of the plateau region's key construction projects during the 2011-2015 period.
The Lhasa-Xigaze railway is the first extension of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway that opened in July 2006.
I think i saw a news clip where CCTV that claimed that 13 non protesters died in the during the 2008 protests, which included Tibetans (but that's a minor point).

My call for complete retirement does not mean that I will forget the Tibetan struggle. I am a Tibetan and every Tibetan has the moral obligation to carry out our own struggle,"
He reiterated that efforts to resolve the issue of Tibet would remain one of his three commitments.
The Brutal Nazi CCP CULT invaded Tibet in 1949. 6,000 monasteries, nunneries, temples, and their contents were destroyed. 1.2 million Tibetans died as a result of China's policies. All people including Chinese and Tibetans deserve the basic human rights to preserve their cultures, express their political views, and freely practice their religious beliefs. I pray this happens in Tibet and China soon. TIBET WILL BE FREE AGAIN!

Dalai Lama: Many communist and authoritarian regimes have changed, including the Soviet Union, not by force but by their own people. These are very positive developments. China [still has] the same system, but the reality is that much is changing. Freedom of information, religious freedom and freedom of the press are much better. I feel that man-made unrealistic systems eventually return to a human, natural way.
His Holiness The Dalai Lama: Despite some economic improvement and development, the threats to our cultural heritage, religious freedom and environment are very serious. Then also in the countryside, facilities in education and health are very, very poor. It's like the big gap in China proper between rich and poor. So the whole picture, it almost looks hopeless.

@dorje168 Communism is a western ideology promoted in China by the British Empire, particularly Bertrand Russel. The alternative was Sun Yat Sen's model of economic development based on the American system. He proposed the train route which now provides Tibet's greatest source of income from Tourism.

TheSaImonfan 9 months ago

TheSaImonfan 9 months ago
"I am very confident the economic relationship between the two countries is good for both of us," Gillard said, indicating that a productive trade with Australia's sale of energy resources to China has helped feed China's spectacular economic growth.
Gillard said Australia welcomes Chinese investment in Australia. "We have a system where we assist foreign investment proposals the same way China does, on a case-by-case basis."
TheSaImonfan 9 months ago
The Australia-China relationship is also growing with more tourism and more Chinese students in Australia, Gillard said.
Gillard, who will attend an opera on Wednesday night, said cultural exchanges are very important for both countries.
The memorandum of understanding on the reciprocal years of culture (2010-2012) between China and Australia is "a terrific initiative to help the people of both countries to better understand the culture of the other country," Gillard said.
TheSaImonfan 9 months ago
Under the program, the Year of Australian Culture in China was scheduled from 2010 to 2011, and the Year of Chinese Culture in Australia will be held from 2011 to 2012.
"Of course, China, with this ancient culture, has a lot to share and showcase in Australia over the next few months," Gillard said.
Further, Gillard said both countries have strong links in international forums such as the G20 and the APEC.
TheSaImonfan 9 months ago

SheilaSaulanShigley 9 months ago
"Our relationship with China is in good shape," Gillard told reporters. "Of course, our economic relationship is a vital one for Australia's national interest, and it is growing in leaps and bounds."
Gillard said her talks focused on trade and investment, and also speeding up negotiations on a free trade agreement.
SheilaSaulanShigley 9 months ago
Under the auspicious of the two leaders, ministers of the two governments signed signed a series of cooperation agreements, which are intended to strengthen economic ties. The deals signed cover cooperation in trade, tourism, science and mining.
China buys more than a quarter of Australian exports, having overtaken Japan as the country's largest trading partner in 2009. Two-way annual trade has now passed A$100 billion (US$107 billion), up from A$57 billion in 2009.
SheilaSaulanShigley 9 months ago
Opening their discussions, Wen reaffirmed the importance of China's relations with Australia, saying that "we have always seen Australia as an important partner in our win-win relationship".
He also encouraged bilateral cooperation in the research, development and utilization of new, clean and renewable energy, and in the fields of information networks, rail systems and ports.
SheilaSaulanShigley 9 months ago
Gillard's trip is her first to China since taking her post in June and seeks to set a new tone for relations following some spats over human rights and Chinese businesses' investment in Australia under her predecessor, current Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd.
Gillard said that Australia welcomes more Chinese students and tourists and greater investment, despite a number of controversial incidents in the past.

Tibetan protests led by Buddhist monks against Chinese rule in March 2008 gave way to torrid violence, with rioters torching shops and turning on residents, especially Han Chinese, who many Tibetans see as intruders threatening their culture.

Global censorship is immoral.

China invaded Tibet, then an independent nation, and annexed it in 1950.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959.
The government of China tightly controls Buddhism in Tibet.
Monasteries have been allowed to function mostly_ as tourist attractions.
The Tibetan people also feel they are becoming second-class citizens in their own country.
Tensions came to a head in March 2008, resulting in several days of rioting.
Long Live His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama.!

TIME: How is the situation in Tibet?
Dalai Lama: Many communist and authoritarian regimes have changed, including the Soviet Union, not by force but by their own people. These are very positive developments. China [still has] the same system, but the reality is that much is changing. Freedom of information, religious freedom and freedom of the press are much better. I feel that man-made unrealistic systems eventually return to a human, natural way.

@TIME: How is the situation in Tibet?
His Holiness The Dalai Lama: Despite some economic improvement and development, the threats to our cultural heritage, religious freedom and environment are very serious. Then also in the countryside, facilities in education and health are very, very poor. It's like the big gap in China proper between rich and poor. So the whole picture, it almost looks hopeless.

These outbursts of violence by the Uighers and the Tibetans are the result of tensions caused by these people feeling :
1) Their culture is being eroded by the influx of Han settlers,
2) Resentment that they are being economically and culturally marginalized in their own ancestral land,
3) Treated as second-class citizens and discriminated against by the majority Han Chinese.
