thomson my man, you never fail to amaze me, the lesson i took years ago improved my chops. your playing and musicianship is pure gold. one day soon, some good irish stout on me after a good lesson. happy patty's day!
@worldwidebrothers I owe you a hang, my man! And I can actually say I have some free time these next few months if you're around. Let's go catch some music somewhere sometime!
really nice playing man. you have really nice phrasing. i loved at :57 that little bit
p.s was that an edit at the end of your solo? lol
I have to learn the head for my 2nd year exam (I study jazz at the Adelaide Conservatorium) and am looking around at what other double players are doing with it. you are a bit advanced for me (ive only been playing for 8 months or so) but this is a version to aim for. cheers
Hey Thomas, I just gotten hold of the CP Omnibook, to learn to read and the same time learn to improvise. There is so much to learn huh? But since checking out this offering of yours I'm gonna have to focus on your stuff. I can't wait for All The Things You Are in 11/8. Oh Joy!! Learning how to play it well in 4 would do me.
Well, believe me, learning to play in 11/8 and 9/8 and so forth didn't happen overnight. I played in some Bulgarian and Easter European groups years ago, started writing some tunes in those meters and internalized them. After that, it was just natural to just start hearing standards in those meters, too. But I am a full advocate of learning 4/4 and straight up playing first. I've been playing in some of these EasternEuropean meters for 10 years now, so it's very natural for me now.
So many of those bebop melodies are pretty tough the acoustic bass...just a tough instrument all around. I'm presently trying to get the head to "Coneception" together, but's it a bitch to get clean and anywhere near the proper tempo. a work in progress!

Excellent playing man! Sounds amazing.
I really dig the use of double stops. And my god, that line at 1:11 blew my mind.
Is that triplets with an accent placed every four notes? Sounds sweet.

Very nicely done! I once learned the A section to this on electric bass...but it's been too long. Great playing.
