  • This video in an underrated masterpiece.

  • P.S. I remember when I was six or so, on really windy days I wondered if ghosts would blow away. And if maybe that was why they haunted houses--shelter from the wind--instead of haunting something else like trees. XP

  • After over a year of YouTubing this is still my favorite video. Please keep up the excellent work.

  • I am trapped by my parents beliefs. I want to free my mind, but fear of condescendment stops me. Its not fair that i should be bound by someone elses ignorance.

  • @Velumanari do what i do when im in a group and im the odd one out. pretend you believe in this god and bring up examples of reasons why the group believe in that god but fake it and dont use the word god use sea donkey. you will see there face in distgust that such thing cannot possibly exist then say joking that was the reason i believe in god

  • now i know what's up with that ghost speeding past me at 107,000 km/h every year.

  • Atheism is but a first step towards a perfect world.

  • Your videos are amazing. Excellent work. Very eye opening...I believe, if taken objectively (which religious have trouble with), the videos that you post can free people.

  • typical atheist logic. Assumes that matter exists and talks about how matter works. No answer for origins. another fool.

  • @pastormike7 "Assumes that matter exists and talks about how matter works. No answer for origins. another fool."

there's no assumption here, we KNOW that matter exists and we KNOW how it works. and no, there is no answer for origins, because we don't know that. BUT NEITHER DO YOU. what's more foolish? a person who doesn't know the origin of the universe, yet admits that they don't know... or a person who is equally ignorant of the world's origin, but fakes knowledge? (hint - the second one.)

  • @pastormike7 thing is, mike, having no knowledge is a smarter position than claiming "knowledge" with nothing to back it up. to sum it up: science doesn't know everything, but at least knows something. religion knows nothing.

  • @pastormike7 are you a troll? you're MADE of matter!

  • Good point!

  • Ah yes, all you scientific methodists pat yourselves on the back. Such a quaint display.

  • @mknomad5 Ah, yes. You make a very salient, insightful point. Good job.

  • If someone tells me there's a 20 ft tall bareknuckle prizefighter in the ring I'd throw a bag of flour at it to see if it's true.

And if it is I'd punch the sucker in the knee, because at that size a human body would be really easy to topple and crack his head open if he hit the ground.

But I suspect I'd just find a ring full of flour without any invisible creatures there.

  • Damn; excellent. The beginning is perfect, the "supernatural". Sacred texts embody the ancient and unverifiable and speak to the future and yet to be verified. Religion never lives in today. The debate always gets steered towards or lost in arguing about the past or the future. They tell addicts in recovery programs to live one moment and one day at a time. Theists should do the same things and expect from their "God" to "show me today", but "God" can't. Show me today. . Show me today . .

  • a ghoast could consist of energy.

  • @GalliadII I can definitely believe someone who can't even spell ghost.

  • @904xxiGhost sorry. English is not my mothers language^^

    I am German.

  • @GalliadII Ich bin sehr bedaure. If I even spelled that, or put that in the right order.

  • @904xxiGhost no you didnt, but thats ok =)

did you want to say: I am very sorry? that would be "Es tut mir leid."

    ^^

but I didnt want to dumb your video. I was just saying that ghosts might consist of energy. I know I cannot prove ghosts exist. I just wanted to make a theory. so dont feel offended. And dont mind my bad English^^

  • @GalliadII no, energy can't exist as a being. Energy is definded as the amount of work that can be done by objects with mass and forces over time. It takes energy to move an object from one place to another. Energy is a way measuring work. Can a ghost consist of distance? No. Just the same, a ghost cannot consist of energy.

  • @mephesh I thought of energy in another way. I was allways told that energy if its concentrated enough becomes matter. Light also is a form of energy. If you think of holograms, they are only light. In order to have a ghoast we would need a soul, right? I dont know if souls exist, but if they do, they could express themselves as energy. Something between pure energy and matter. Between energy and atoms. I cannot tell. Maybe a ghoast only is a prpjection of something from the 5/6th dimension. idk

  • QUESTION: What is the difference between pretending to believe more than you do, than pretending to not believe more than you actually do believe? But you don't have to actually answer this, of course, it is all rhetorical.

  • Whimsical fears, irrational thoughts, emotional dramas. "People" will always be the main antagonists in this bullshit struggle not some God but death will absolve it all and make us perfect in the end.

  • Bread goes in. Toast comes out. Explain that atheists.

  • Don't worry, baby. There is no hell.

  • 1:36 - 1:48

    lolz

  • I find ghosts unlikely and the type you described impossible - but there is a concept that they could not be in the "physical realm" but instead be manipulating what we see and hear via some sort of telepathy. Yes, also highly unlikely, but it does circumvent that particular problem.

  • @ArcasDevlin My personal belief, and it does require faith, is that ghosts ARE real, perhaps not to the extent that we describe them as, but something IS causing all these hauntings, and I do believe that Science will one day unravel the truth.

  • @ImAnotherZang Science has already unraveled the truth; it's called superstition. Nothing more than a set of beliefs based on zero evidence.

  • @JackeShanTwo hmm...well, i guess that sums it up.

  • you are soooooo goin to Hell.

  • You're already in hell, ApollosPythia.

  • @ApollosPythia I hope you are sooooooo joking about that ;]

  • @ApollosPythia

the fear u instill by threatening an atheist of hell, is equal to the hope u instill by informing an atheist that Santa will be bringing him gifts on December the 25th...give it up, your fear mongering is waste of time.

  • @itzahazylife lmao you win

  • This largest library on earth is home to thousands upon thousands of edited and censored works.

  • @phase866 yet upon critical thinking censors and edits in information quickly becomes apparent and can be, jsut as swiftly, discarded. The internet IS full of false information, and you have to look and think for yourself how strong does your point work, no matter which "side" you are on.

  • How to fight a God:

Step 1: Have your town burned to the ground by bandits.

Step 2: Miraculously get saved by the Guildmaster of Albion.

Step 3: Get the Guild Seal, be raised as a Hero among men.

Step 4: Complete quests, get armor, train magic.

Step 5: Kill Jack of Blades. Receive an epic weapon by killing your sister.

Step 6: Study religion, logic, science and philosophy with fair-mindedness.

Step 7: Realize being raised a hero was pointless and counterproductive. And you killed your sister.

  • Comment removed

  • 38 people are completely fucking useless as human beings.

  • My mom is very close to getting away from theistic views. She has accepted that the Bible was written by Man and she is very skeptical of most "miracles". The only real thing that is stopping her is the possibility of ghosts.

I think I just found the cure for that :)

  • The words of a false religion hold truth; "The truth shall set you free."

  • Great video! so far I love 100% of your vids :P

One criticism: You're helping the (popular American) creationist/Intelligent Design crew by backing up one of the main cruxes of their argument in their fight to convert (stupefy) america. They constantly repeat that to believe evolution is to be atheist, to be atheist is to believe in "material science" (natural science), and to be these things is to support human cloning, abortion, eugenics, pop. control, and other things they fantasize about.

  • "thats fine, because u dont always pay" ahahahahaahahaaaaaaahaahahaha

  • god is a belief., too believe, is your god..nothing more...............you ARE the creator,

  • @JWshark2012 we are gods god

  • Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

  • I agree with you but I think that studying history of middle east is also a guaranteed method

  • Great video it really helped me to go to sleep last night.

  • awesome video, though in my personal opinion, you shoulda shown where the spear cuts Xerxes cheek, proving to him that he's not some kind of god king, but a regular man, at the end.

  • To stand for something is fear or causes fear. You want to tell people to not to stand for something, because it's harming, humiliating, disgusting. You tell people to believe in something. Maybe their ideas, humanism (seems to come from Christianity, the modern).

Here's my question? What's your purpose...

  • So here's my question: is there any way to know how long it will take for my subconscious mind to catch up to my conscious mind, if it does at all? How long before conscious knowledge can dispel irrational fear? Because there are plenty of things I still fear even KNOWING they're silly. Many have diminished as I have let go of superstition, but I am worried that so many irrational fears remain as the after-image of beliefs no longer held.

  • @TransparentChocolate "How long before conscious knowledge can dispel irrational fear?"

Excellent question. It takes a second...when it finally happens, but you have to read books to get to that point. It's up to you. Do you want to be free of those fears enough? Do they trouble you enough for it to be worth the effort of reading 4-5 books?

  • @philhellenes hello phil, great vid,i had a comment/question,the second one confirms their belief in a religion, would it be fair to say that because of the confirmation of belief that all learning beyond that belief/religion is at a stand still because if you believe in anyone thing and lay claim to it, there would be no room for any other learning beyond the blind devotion of that religion??just my thought's!!!

  • @philhellenes

An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come.

    Victor Hugo

Thanks for the great videos btw. (Your "science saved my soul" video was actually the reason I got an YT account in the first place. Come to think oft it... thats also the reason I've spent far too much time here, arguing with religious dimwits, sorry.. misguided individuals, you make me mess up my studies!! :)

  • @TransparentChocolate there are some interesting points regarding the subconscious; it is not a matter of your subconscious catching up to your conscious mind, but rather the opposite. Neurological studies indicate that most or all thought emanates from the subconscious, meaning that your conscious was in fact receiving the logic/reason of your subconscious when you watched this video. In fact, it is your conscious that will always keep in its forebrain certain superstitions.

  • @TransparentChocolate yes they do remain, but rarely forever. what you have to do to not be frightened by them is face them in your mind again and again and again until you reach the inevitable turning point where they become nothing more than "something you used to believe". the fear you feel is a reflex formed over a long period of time. the longer it took, the more stubborn the reflex. I was a believer for about 6 years and it took me about 2 years from my deconversion to lose those reflexes.

  • @TransparentChocolate I wondered the same thing a while ago. It took about a year for me, to finally rid myself of all the fear and superstitious beliefs. I still haven't fully rid myself of it all, but mostly. I think that only time and experiences and applying those rational thoughts of the conscious mind to your life will allow for this "catching up". The conclusions from those experiences will back up the conscious mind and your subconscious mind will eventually evolve to those experiences

  • I laughed my ass off at the thought of that surprised ghost flying by at i-dont-know-how-many km/h!

  • Doubt - and question - and prove it to yourself. Yes, that does set you free. I ended up working backward, from some of the things "my" church, years ago, attacked - rock music, backward masking, other religions. The more bunk I saw there, the more claims they made that were easily disproved, the easier it was to take that next step and see that something else just didn't make sense and couldn't be real. Doubt, question, prove it to yourself.

  • I do believe that I have a new hero. And with a cool accent too.

  • you should be ashamed all of you believers and atheists alike from watever religion or ignorance,

its disgusting how you rant as if you are all knowing about a subject that i think is completely misunderstood. JUST THINK HOW YOUR COMMENTS MIGHT AFFECT SOMEONE ON MAGIC MUSHROOMS> tsk tsk the lot of you (apart from the odd one)

  • KNEEL BEFORE ZOD.

  • A bit harsh including good old Rowan on there, i'm pretty sure he doesn't believe in god, and is in fact working from the inside to discredit the entire anglican church.

    Go Rowan!

  • The spiritual realm is restricted and only applies to the human mind and it's imagination and fantasies. All ghosts, gods, fairies, unicorns and other supernatural unbeings can be found there and only there.

Thanks for the thought provocation, Phil.

  • SQUIRLL!

  • I need to learn physics....I took a year in college but it was so based on math and word problems I never would have thought to ask what would happen to a weightless ghost.

  • @MsRubyslippers You should see the video "Betting on Infinity" by QualiaSoup & TheraminTrees.

  • You have a real way with words..... Your videos give me goose bumps!!!!!

  • I am a big fan of your videos x

  • Atheism is the freedom from ignorance and slavery.

  • @mephesh This is false. I have known plenty of ignorant atheists getting exploited the shit out of them because of their superstitions. Crystal healers and homeopaths. Even after taking 3 times the "overdose" load of homeopathic medicine without any effect the bricks-for-brains atheist nitwits still didn't step away from homeopathy.

knowledge and inquisition grants freedom from ignorance. Equality and liberty grant freedom from slavery. Atheism grants freedom from superstitions in the divine.

  • @FHomeBrew There are misguided people in every group.

  • @FHomeBrew Atheists have superstitions? THAT is a very big first.

  • @noaccount4 Sadly, it's all too true. I've heard some of my atheist friends say "That's karma for ya!" in a serious manner (they did believe in such a thing) but didn't know where the expression came from O_o They did believe in the "you reap what you sow" kinda thing associated with karma though. I just told them to read up on it cuz they sounded like retards. You may even have some unsupported beliefs you don't even know about or assume to be true ;-) Be weary of that :-)

  • @mephesh Whitepower.

  • On the issue of ghosts... They don't haunt buildings. Memories do.

  • Why was this in my recommended ¬ ¬, blah blah blah.

  • philhellenes, I've lost all patience and I'll not spend another minute waiting for a video from you that will disappoint ;-)

  • We need science! But to make science your God is foolish. Science is interpreted by men, men who are as susceptible to flaws as the religious folk of the world. Science has brought great things to the human race, but also terrible things of nightmares. Man made diseases, virus' and bombs, all of which have no other purpose but to destroy life........

  • @bigspliffs .......Without God we are in coincidental existence, therefore have no meaning, therefore cannot judge anyone on anything they do, so the purpose of this video is obsolete

  • @bigspliffs

Man made diseases? Huh?? What about all the manmade cures to the diseases that were naturally there already?

  • @bigspliffs Science didn't bring any of that stuff. Men did. The scientific method is just that, a method. It's a tool that is used to seperate reality from fantasy.

Saying science has brought evil for those things and not the men, is like saying that when someone murders you with an axe, it's the axes fault.

  • knowledge is power. But it's not as powerful as money in this society

  • KaraRvn: Actually, it is a scriptural phrase, or I would not have posted it as such:

    Isaiah 1:18 NIV

"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool."

  • btw, I have to give you credit for the "supernatural clothes" idea I used on my latest video. ;-)

  • Thank you, Philhellenes. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that this video, along with Carl Sagan's book "The Demon-Haunted World," really liberated my mind.

  • things only have power because they are believed in... I believe in god because scientific death sucks.... but even so... Thank you for this video

  • @TheStilf Death sucks. I couldn't agree more. But I honestly think that NEVER being able to die would suck even more. Thank you for your honesty.

  • @philhellenes On the other hand living for as long as you want to would be swell.

  • @GumbaMasta I'd agree to that, I suppose.

  • @philhellenes Are you fcukin kiding me never being able to die would only suck if your being tortured. While your alive you can find the meaning of life and there for live forever if there is no answer to the meaning of life good enough you can wait forever for the answer but in the meantime do something worth your time.

  • @Tethloach1 And what good would the meaning of life do you in Heaven.

Knowledge has no meaning unless it benefits yourself or society. An immortal soul in heaven can not benefit from knowledge because anything discovered would have no impact on their well being (due to immortality) or society (due to not being able to share such knowledge with those still living). Nothing accomplished in Heaven would have meaning.

Living forever, in heaven or hell, would drive me insane.

  • @philhellenes death is more like purgatory.. not good and not bad either lmao.

It's probably going to be like before you were born :D

That's how I manage to keep myself from going insane :\

  • @Nemesishk You're only human, mate. You're here to live for a tiring lifetime and die in a microsecond. Worry about pain, not death. Death is a myth that cannot become true for the individual. You will NEVER experience it, not a moment of it. In that sense you're immortal. Live. :)

  • @philhellenes Well.. that's a nice way to put it :D

  • @Nemesishk I get poetic sometimes, but I didn't lie. ;)

  • @TheStilf : i somewhat understand. However at least the christian concept of afterlife i find more horrible than any scenario i can think of.

  • @TheStilf Before you were born did not existing bother you?

  • 10/10

  • 'god' as you say, exists.

He just isn't the fatherly lord that christians have come up with.

There is no heaven or hell either.

I don't like referring to him as god though because that makes us think of the Christian god. It also makes us think that I don't believe in evolution.

  • @DilusionalDreww Well this comment was about as useful as all the Evangelical comments these videos get.

  • Great video! :)

  • This is deep.

  • To beat god, you need a chariot of iron!

  • I like you videos but your far to Americanised, there is nothing worse then hearing an English person use dollars as the main currency of choice or saying ZEE instead of ZED. Besides that your ace.

  • AWESOME VIDEO.... But I have a tactic that works just as well - maybe even better! Get Christians to actually READ THE BIBLE! Get the little "bullshit alarm" to go off in the very back of their mind... it only gets louder and louder!

    .

After all, the Bible is what deconverted me!

  • At last a sensible video. God, Time Dilation, Black Holes & infinity are suppositions not facts. Some, like God, have become conjectures, a scientific term that a supposition cannot be proven nor it can be disproven. Charlatans, Politicians & Religious Leaders know it & use it to their benefit. Education is the key to unlock reality. Religions are fearful of Science lest they free the Masses who start asking questions. Most societies are controlled by religions. Learn & be free.

  • this is Awesome!!! phil is GOD!!!

  • He he. Why couldn't god defeat those that had 'chariots of iron' ? Some 'god' eh ??

    Judges

1:19 And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

  • I am a Satanist,and i approve this message.

  • @Sezmonz YOU are god!

  • AWESOME! is it wrong that i think the girl burning in hell has a nice rack? 0:25

  • god doesn't exist and neither does heaven of hell.. your all so stupid its amazing - i mean wow, go to school, get educated, and see the truth.

  • interesting...............

  • sorry i have to break this up into seperate comments but youtube wont let me post comments over 400 hundred or so characters for some reason....

  • for the spirit existence you were talking about all of which makes sense you are still wrong about in one area (the non existence of spirits)

the reason that they can be walked through or can walk through walls and suck is because they are simply solid like usbut vibrating at a different level of reality or a different frequency than us allowing us to walk through them them to be invisible to us.i am infact a pyschic and do see and can interact with

  • @golickacat

Ok, good that you say that. I am medicine doctor. Please go see a psychiatrist and tell him about your experiences... Afterwards you will feel much better.

  • @J0EH3AD

you say that as though i am insane.didn't i just say htat the future that i see does happen after been seen, not directly iether.

just because your conciessness is limited does not mean that mine is.

  • @golickacat You have an unlimited conciousness? Should I pray to JOEH3AD or do you have a real name?

  • @kurumako well we all do,its just a matter of knowing s or not.

the differnece is with me and him is that i use my unlimited conciesness.

  • @golickacat Well, I suppose what you're saying isn't testable, therefore irrefutable, because the limits of conciousness aren't measurable. But I can assure you your mind has limitations.

  • @kurumako agreed.

  • This is really, really good. Thanks.

  • when I was a kid I also entertained the idea of a supernatural something... then I grew up :)

    so

GROW UP AND SAY NO TO RELIGION

And all the other bullshit that surrounds it...

  • How does one get into Heaven?

  • If, as you just said, people can only get into Heaven by believing Jesus was the son of a god, how can you say, within ONE sentence, that everyone is going to Heaven? That's a glaring contradiction. That you have the brain to not believe in Hell is to your credit. And why do you think Hell is mentioned in the Bible if it doesn't exist?

  • @philhellenes the bible was written by men as were all the other so called holy books. We have never seen or heard from god, so how the hell do we know she is there? God is just something that early man dreamed up to make death eazier to accept.

  • @philhellenes Well, throughout the years, some people who translated the Bible purposely mistranslated and left out key words to support their belief in eternal damnation. When the Catholic Church started to gain prominence, they looked through certain text (ex. The Secret Gospel of Mark) and pretty much picked and chose what they wanted to include when they translated the Bible in Latin, and left out what they didn't like, and the same happened with the King James Version.

  • @philhellenes its pronounced 'zed' you english language ho

  • @philhellenes I was taught in school, the current official doctrine of the catholic church does not include hell, and also claims there is no mention of hell in the bible. however, I don't know if my teacher got the catholic doctrine wrong, or if they really claim that.

  • @Herbarius The Vatican preist in Religulous said that hell was the old catholic doctrine, but i don't know if many people actually know this. Originally there was no hell in the bible. It was added later.

  • @Herbarius biblegateway, keyword search for 'hell'. 14 specific references of "hell" by that name.

    Yay technology.

  • @philhellenes hell is real . Heaven is real. The bible is real. Christ IS God himself...ask him to let you recieve His sacrifice for your sins.

  • @trancemajestic

Hell isn't real. Heaven isn't real. The Bible is real, but a fiction. Harry Potter IS the protagonist.

Because these things aren't real, everyone who has ever asked the sky for answers has received the same silence, and everyone who has asked their holy leader has received the answer that they should spread what the holy leader believes.

  • @trancemajestic

Don't fight the anvil, friend! Free your mind from religious prison of fear. "God" is in your head. He cannot harm you, but only if you defeat him first!

    I believe in you!

  • @trancemajestic I haven't sinned horribly at all. If I'm going to Hell for one tiny screw up in my life, then God is not worth my time to worship. Not to mention, the Bible is just fiction. Everything in there coincides so much with myths from other cultures, it's not even funny. Might as well just be a really dry novel.

  • @philhellenes The road is narrow that leads to life my friend

  • @katieburak93

Well, well, not believing in Hell... Fun thing is, Vatican's exercionists use this "ignorance technique" - don't believe in deamons and there will be no deamons (seems like psycology, nothing supernatural) , but it's not widely promoted, because in some way it contradicts Bible and other sh.. stuff saying "the Evil one" exists by itself. Wait.. if deamons and devils disappear, doesn't God do the same if you stop believing?!

  • @SwineNahNah 1st of all, I'm not Catholic, and I really don't give a shit what they do. 2nd. All I said was I don't believe in hell. Why is it a big deal to you? It's not like I was being mean or anything.

  • @katieburak93

I didn't think you to be mean, neither I have tried to act mean.

Technically I am Roman Catholic too (happened to be born in that region of my country), but really more like atheist. 8D

  • @SwineNahNah My apologies. I'm sorry I sounded so sensitive, and acted like you where an ass when you weren't.

  • @katieburak93

    Don't worry, I'm complet flegmatic anyway. 8D

  • @katieburak93 , Having had a look at your channel hell is about the only thing you dont believe in.

  • @katieburak93 you cannot take Heaven and afterlife literally, that place of peace metioned in the Bible is a metaphor for dying and nothing happening, therefore there is peace for all eternity. Didn't you know that the Bible cannot be taken literally? I learned that from Christians.

  • @philhellenes You can't get into Heaven, it's not a place. It's a state of mind.

  • @philhellenes

If Southpark is right about Saint Peter being a rabbit, I strongly recommend keeping a carrot on you while you die.

  • @philhellenes you must give me 5 bucks

  • @philhellenes how does one get into hell?

  • @philhellenes what kind of reply is that!! and what do you mean by your question anyway?

  • look mate............ THERE IS NO F**KING GOD!

you are god you decide what happens when it hapens and how it happens not some devine almighty

    there are spirits though....................

  • @pinkblackkittez Cool story, bro.

  • @pinkblackkittez "Come, let us reason together." Aren't you thinking of Xerxes in the "300" movie? I highly doubt that's a scriptural phrase. :-P

  • How To Fight A God..... Three nails and a spear.

  • @yeshuahfullofit - A good science book does the trick every time :)

  • @Christheatheist1 gods are fragile things; they may be killed by a whiff of science or a dose of common sense........anon

  • I love how logic and rationality are characterized by a fragmentation grenade and a tank. :3

  • after 4:00 i cant agree with his strategy....using logic, proof and scientific reasoning to disprove the ridiculous beliefs of people misses the point. Believers dont care about such things when it applies to their gods, faeries, angels, or ghosts. I say ridicule them when they are doing harm, like lying to kids, affecting politics, shunning science, etc. Make them laughingstocks, LAUGH at their nonsense, kids love that!
