I have read the patanjali yoga sutras many a time. There is a distinction between patanjali's sutras and hatha yoga which is the yoga of asanas - position's and flows. Patanjali's sutras are more like notes taken by a student of a verbal discourse and describe the eight-fold path to samadhi. They are a bit cryptic (For example on Pratyahara, maybe because we need to realize ourselves to understand them better). I am looking forward to your thoughts and observations on this very important topic..
Hi, 0musing. Yes, you are quite right to make this distinction. 'Yoga' has become almost exclusively associated with 'hatha yoga' in many peoples' minds. Also, Patanjali's Sutras have also become associated with the eight-fold path even though less than one-fifth of the text is devoted to it (from the second half of book 2 to sutra 8 of book 3. Perhaps this is because it is the easiest part to talk about. I will be focussing on the context within which the eight-fold path is embedded.
So happy to see that you're back! I look forward to what you have to say about the Yoga Sutras. I've seen many references to them throughout the years, but because sitting meditation has never really interested me I've avoided looking deeper into them. Thank you for shedding light on such a wonderful source of wisdom. I look forward to your insightful commentaries. Finding you has been one of the great booms of my journey.
Thanks Robert. I know that it might not appear so from my videos, but I'm actually quite excited about this new venture. I have a sense of unlocking a wonderful treasure which will be of immediate use and benefit to spiritual practitioners. Best wishes.
What you are saying is also the very essence of Islam, Peace!
