  • This video is too old. Things done work this way anymore. Currently there's a huge error rate going around and many youtubers can't upload. Nobody seems to know or understand why.

  • my video keeps on failling with uploading. I converted the mp4 clips. It did work first but now something won't. I use windows live movie maker. What should i do?

  • @bjthedjdutchdude1992 Is it the "upload failed" message? That means either something is wrong with the file (unplayable) or YouTube doesn't have the codec to play it (rare but possible). Message me, describing your process and the settings you choose.

  • @DerekForPresident it's ok now. i got it fixed. I set it on hd. It worked

  • my video will not upload it keeps staying at 0 % and it never moves plz help!!

  • I have been trying to upload a vid for 3 or 4 days, the vid just wont upload, can you pm me, i really want to get this one on YT. thanks.

  • this aint helpful, you have a weird acent. you werid and stupid, tis is sooooooo bad. yourr just talking shit. i wanna know yyyy my video wont upload

  • this aint helpful, you have a weird acent. you werid and stupid, tis is sooooooo bad

  • ok it keeps saying error but its like 318 kbs and the vid is like 1 min long but youtube still says erro and i really like this video i made 2 videos today tht said the same thing so please help!!

  • you sound high.

  • this is a screen shot: of you being a nerd

  • wtf my video is 6915 kbs per sec how do i fix!?!?

  • when i upload my videos it says my changes are saved and my video is and then i go to search it and its not there even though youtube says that my video is finished uploading

  • Hey Derek,

Whenever I try to upload a video,it always says it's uploading but never finishes doing so and it always says: "Pending: Your video settings will be saved once your video has finished uploading."

    Please help!!!!

  • Oh and it's already a "WMV" file.

  • @KrystleRos just wait on the download page for about one hour

  • when i upload my videos that i edited with avs editor 4 it did not work =[

  • You're not uploading an AVS, are you?

  • @DerekForPresident yeh i have to rerecord it and put on windows movie maker so make a guide =O? lplease

  • @DerekForPresident well 4 me yes

  • @DerekForPresident I am uploading an avs what do i do to make it work

  • @thelaxking25 The AVS only works on your system. It's not an actual video file, so you'll have to save it to an AVI with VirtualDub. Xvid or x264 VFW are fine codec choices.

  • Please answer back because i need help:

My computer is acting stupid somehow, it wont work or upload so can u explain this an easier way because ive tried what you told me and nope!!! :( please help me!!

  • This is outdated. YT does a much better job processing your videos. Just look for AVC, MP4, or H.264 when you render your video. (That's general advice; I'm not sure what program you're using.)

  • lol i can't upload my video's for youtube ive made them with windows movie maker.

    can you help me?

  • when u save ur movie that u worked with.. save it as movie, not project

  • @olaf1234561 same

  • can you close youtube and your video still uploads?please message me thankyou.

  • Mine does that too. It seems to be crashing the browser. The only way I can upload now is with the Bulk Uploader.

  • Can I Upload Longer Videos On YouTube.

  • hey watsup... all the downloads i upload is good but i cant upload a AVI ... Why ?

    Please Somone Help & Answer!

  • Something would have to be way off for you to be unable to upload an AVI. Does it keep loading forever? Does it say "failed to process?" What kind of AVI?

  • my upload freezes in 100% what should i do?

  • I have a problem I have already uploade a video it works perfect for 3 months but know I have always a error please try again :s please help me!!!!!!!!!!!plzzzzzzz

  • Wow, hopefully you're not using this guide for it; it's pretty old now. Which program did you use, and which settings did you use to make it?

  • thnx for helping me but I found it but thnx 4 help man xd

  • my vids say thet upload but there rely not on youtube or on my channel

  • every video i try to upload fails

  • don't upload avi

  • it does it for me and i cant find any software to convert the file cuz i have made some slideshows that i want to put on "youtube"

  • any video converter works really well

  • That isn't very nice, bet your face is worse :)

  • wat cam and softeaware u use for ur videos pls?what is the time limit nowsdays inyouubutbe pl s?

  • i think its the first option. (copyright shit:P)

but i dont know why other people upload they're videos wont deleted, its only my.

  • i want you to president (in finland) :D

  • do u know why when i upload like WWE or ANIME, then my movies will get automatically deleted. u know how to fix it?

    thx

  • Uh... deleted like for copyright reasons? Or deleted because the video failed to process or some technical reason? (I can't help you if it's the first option)

  • How long is it supposed to take to upload a video? I waited a week, and it says I have to wait a few minutes for it to be processed. I don't understand! Please help.

    Thanks, BEASTLYMAN96

  • I've had videos get stuck in processing once in a while; try uploading again. Sorry!

  • u uploaded this vid a day before my bday :)

  • i know it's outdated, but that background is just awesome. if i win a million and dont need to work anymore, i'm going to try to figure out all that stuff, too. well.. maybe i will anyways.

  • oh right lol soz

  • WAIT WAIT WAIT!?!? WTF in a new video you say stay with 1000kbps now you are saying stay under 350kbps?! wtf

  • Note this video is labeled OUTDATED. It doesn't work anymore; this is history.

  • I just wanted to say that even though this technique may be deprecated now, you did teach me how to make batch files.

  • You should be working as a professional at a company. YouTube should hire you exclusively along with a team to assist your department, in making training/instructional/how to tapes on video production. That is my evaluation.

  • Where can I find the Sorenson H263 Codec for download?

  • Nevermind, I checked with MediaInfo and it's there. I guess ffmpeg or some other program comes with it.

  • I wouldn't recommend using it. This guide won't work anymore. Sadly, they reencode everything now. Try this way: /watch?v=HDHaE2x0bCc

  • Thanks for the help. I use this codec now. :P

  • hey derek could you find out or please help me out on how to get HD or High Quality video using Roxio easy media creator suite 9? Thanks your videos rock

  • If this video is outdated, then will his instructions still work? i need an update if not. I still need to know how to upload my vids without you tube degrading the quality. PLEASE HELP

  • This doesn't work anymore? What's wrong with it?

  • YouTube now reencodes everything, as of the May 20 system update. Unless you have proof otherwise.

  • Thats it. Stuff youtube. I found a place called exposureroom.

They allow way higher quality. It seems like youtube is an uphill battle. So this is me signing off. adios youtube.

  • Not everything. I can still upload .flv's that maintain it's STEREO sound. Check my videos for proof, like (blue world). Aslong as the video does not pass 350 kbps, I can have 128 kbps stereo mp3 audio etc.

  • Your are the Man Derek!

  • Derek's right. This method doesn't work anymore. No matter how I upload stereo FLV's under 349kbps, it still comes out as mono.. :(

  • Is there a way to get good video quality *AND* Stereo sound at the same time on YouTube?

These two seem to disqualify each other.

  • Awesome! Thanks! I didn't know how to use FFmpeg before, now I do! Thanks again!

  • For Premiere Pro users - Sorenson H263 and Sorenson Spark are one and the same codec.

  • Thanks for chiming in. I know the overall specs, but there's no way to know the specifics of every program. If it worked for you it can work for someone else. By the way my HQ guide is up now, so check that out if you're interested.

  • what do i save the script as , because mine shows up as windows media player or does that even matter,

  • Thank you for this. Does this apply to the new high quality feature. If not what settings I use to get the new higher quality?

  • It's to optimize the low quality version (that most people watch). I'm almost done testing the settings for "Watch this in high quality" - stay tuned.

  • Thanks. I'll be looking forward to the "higher quality" guide. I have yet to find a good guide to upload the higher quality videos on youtube.

  • I made sure to have video.avs loaded and changed example footage.avi to video.avi in the Avisynth file but with my bit setting I always get this "Using all of requested bitrate is not necessary for this video with these parameters".

when I changed the kb of audio/video to 32 (only setting that didn't give me the error) for both I ended up with no errors but my flv video is only 40 kb size and can't be opened with this error: AVIFilesource: couldn't open file 'video.avi' (video.avs, line 1)

  • this video is aready 1 month old, so does it work for now ??

  • It does - for optimizing the LQ version.

  • thank you for the guide but I've encountered a little problems. I get the following message when trying to encode my vid.

Error: bitrate too low for this video with these parameters. Error while opening codec for output stream #0.0 - maybe incorrect parameters such as bit_rate, rate, width or height.

    Help is appreciated

  • Sounds like your video is too detailed (perhaps to fast moving) for that screen size and bitrate. Are you going straight from a bigger sized movie? Open the file that ffmpeg is loading and make sure it's the size you want on YouTube. If it's already 480x360, try 320x240 or 448x336 if you want to push it. Stay tuned for Avisynth help on resizing/processing your video.

  • I'm going straight from a bigger sized movie. I changed the sizes in the video.avs file to 320X240 but still the same error. I'll try changing video.avi to video.avs in the encode file but i've got a feeling the 250 mb size of my video is what's causing the problem.

  • Make sure encode.bat loads video.avs, not avi though. I'll change the description accordingly.

  • good stuff

  • I used an imac how i do it ?

  • Well, the way I did it is that when in iMovie (08), you right click on your project and click on "Export..." and simply select mobile. Then upload the exported file after it's done.

  • Anything that works for Mac? FFMpegX is crap, iMovie doesn't let you choose custom video dimensions, and I can't find anything else.

I tried iMovie's "export for youtube" option, and it did set the video to 480x320, however when I uploaded it it was just resized to 320x240. Any ideas?

P.S. this video's quality is great.

  • Okay well my (privately) uploaded video just randomly gained a "Watch in Higher Quality" option that kept the video at 480x320. So it's all good.

  • Yep, and long term that may be a better option. Most people are watching in 320x240 < 350kbits now, but that will change.

  • Um I just tried it again and I'm not getting the link again... Is there any requirements for getting that link or something?

  • mine said:

    ffmpeg -i video.avi -pass 1 -ab 32k -ar 22050 -ac 1 -vcodec flv -b 304k -g 160 -cmp 2 -subcmp 2 -mbd 2 -flags +aic+cbp+mv0+mv4+trell -y youtubemovie.flv

    ffmpeg -i video.avi -pass 2 -ab 32k -ar 22050 -ac 1 -vcodec flv -b 304k -g 160 -cmp 2 -subcmp 2 -mbd 2 -flags +aic+cbp+mv0+mv4+trell -y youtubemovie.flv

    pause

is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

OH god i'm stupid..i really need HELP!

  • Make sure ffmpeg is in the same folder as encode.bat and your video. The link to ffmpeg is in the description.

  • tnx..i'll try again ^^

  • I agree. This needs to be updated.

  • THE TUTORIAL IS OUTDATED .

  • It still works that way though. I'm well aware of the HQ videos but I think YT isn't good at encoding. Haven't found a way to do a nice 2-pass HQ video that won't be rehashed and at this point I doubt it's possible. But I plan to recommend settings soon for an "optimal" HQ video - in other words - one that sucks the least. But this way still makes the most of the LQ option and many people watch that way, especially those without YT accounts.

  • does it also work for video´s recorded while gaming caz ive tried other encoders but it just make the quality bad at youtube. i wanna see the video go at my channel and watch the `test`ones

  • Yes it does. Every video is different so the size, deinterlacing, audio... that works for one may not work for another. The challenge is finding the compromise that works best. So try to find the best way to process it BEFORE you encode. Until YouTube standardizes the higher quality settings I'm probably going to keep uploading this way. I may upload some video of my damage proof cars from San Andreas, so I'll let you know how it goes.

  • I followed every step. The video should be 37 secs. On mediinfo it only shows 10 sec.

The widthis 600 h = 56... and the audio is not being shown. where did i go wrong. I thought I followed every step.

    Thanks

  • I wouldn't go over 480x360. Send me a message detailing your original video (size, program you used to make it, any other info you have), and the mediainfo specs.

  • Premiere pro 1.5 to get the video. Image size is 720 x 480. specs for the avi file on MediaInfo is:

Genera#0 Format: AVI Format/Family: RIFF Bit Rate: 30.4 Mbps Streamsize String" 142 KiB

    Video#0

    Codec: Sony

    BitRate: 28.8 Mbps

    Width: 720

    Height: 480

    Display Aspect ratio: 4:3

Audio#0 PCM... tried the AViSynth to resize, but guess did not work.

  • Yeah, that's too big. Try: 1) Install AviSynth 2) Create video.avs (it's in the description) with Notepad 3) Make sure encode.bat (also in the description) inputs video.AVS, not video.AVI

  • do i need to adjust the image size on the premiere before i capture or can i use avisynth. I tried installing avisynth to resize: copied and pasted your code and still not working..

  • There's no reason AviSynth can't resize it. Open video.avs with VirtualDubMod and see if it's the proper size. File > File Information. And make sure the your original video is called video.avi.

  • Is Sorensen the same as H263? I use Vegas 8 and I don't see that Sorensen anywhere. However, I do see "Microsoft H.263;" is it the same thing?

  • mine says: AVISource autodetect:couldn't open file(video.avs.line 1)

  • Change "video.avs" to "video.avi" in encode.bat if you're using an AVI. Whichever you choose, the video must be in the same folder as ffmpeg.exe and encode.bat. I'll change the code to be video.avi by default (as many people aren't AviSynth nerds).

  • Nice job. But, you left out the essential detail total. The video needs to display the full content of the conversion batch file! It's only providing 1/2 the data. Cheers

  • I was figuring people would simply copy and paste it from the description. But I don't think I've ever made a video that couldn't be improved somehow. Anyway thanks for watching and commenting - it helps me to improve in the future. (I revise the descriptions thanks to viewer comments so always check there for the latest.)

  • Still, Nice Job. As I still do not see where one can acquire the stated cmd line info, I'm helping to finalize the piece, and adding it here. Hope this is kool. Cheers

    $ ffmpeg -i video.avs -pass 1 -ab 32k -ar 22050 -ac 1 -vcodec flv -b 304k -g 160 -cmp 2 -subcmp 2 -mbd 2 -flags +aic+cbp+mv0+mv4+trell -y youtubemovie.flv

    $ ffmpeg -i video.avs -pass 2 -ab 32k -ar 22050 -ac 1 -vcodec flv -b 304k -g 160 -cmp 2 -subcmp 2 -mbd 2 -flags +aic+cbp+mv0+mv4+trell -y youtubemovie.flv

  • I had a question, great video by the way, But I want to encode my audio with VBR 68 kbps, but your code wont allow m to go up to 68kbps for some reason,or use VBR? can you help. I'm just a lost girl ffmpeg...PLease & Thankyou:)

  • VBR - I don't know if you can. The vids I've seen have CBR. But I just encoded at 96k, so it should work (you'll have to lower the bitrate of the video). Change the 32k to 68 - or 64; maybe it just didn't like the number 68. But it may be possible to encode VBR sound separately, then mux it together with AviDemux. Don't know, never tried it.

  • derek i need help, i run ffmpeg using a 480 x 360 video. i copied and pasted the same settings in your description and ran encode.bat but it says the bitrate is too low for said video. if i jack the bitrate up then its gonna go past the 350kbps limit.

    what do i do

  • You may want to try 448x336 or 320x240; also note that I'm running tests on the higher quality (&fmt=18) videos (will keep you updated). But if you have a good HQ version, YT will reencode the lower quality and it won't look so hot. Compromise is the name of the game.

  • im gonna try resizing to 320x240.

pls run some tests for fmt=6 also. its the best as far as video quality goes. just a quick comparative stat: bitrate for =18 is 512kbps while =6 is 900 kbps (although fmt=18 offers stereo AAC audio whereas fmt=6 sticks with mono mp3).

YT has encoded very few vids in =6. can you test which file types the site requires so that it gets encoded to that format? thanks a bunch!

  • fmt=6 gives a higher bitrate, but the H.264 based fmt=18 is superior. In short, a lower bitrate fmt=18 can look just as good if not better than a higher bitrate fmt=6.

  • Thanks a million for the speed limit tip! I'm using SUPER (freebie from eRightSoft) to convert from wmv to flv and I've had constant problems with video degradation on upload. When I choose settings to match your Video/Audio kbps recommendations these problems disappear. It's like finding the Rosetta stone - well, almost.

  • can i use total video converter to tweak the bitrates and stuff

  • damn, that Sorenson H263 codec is a real bitch to find on the net :\

  • Try using FFmpeg.

  • Thanks. I'm close now, but I'm having a tough time getting a sharp video under 350kbps. It still looks kinda blurry. Did I miss something ? (the video is 3 minutes)

  • Thanx for the help, I hope it works for me (i've tried 20 different ways)...regardless though - your video right here is crystal clear...

  • pretty cool. I'm using premiere and can't work out which encoder to use... because youtube takes all the videos, but then doesn't play them... they just stay forever in loading :-S

  • very intresting
