This is better than any modern release of "Pong" (like on a retro compilation). Why? Because of the paddle controllers. Pong without paddles is like a Saiyan without big hair (eg Nappa). Sure, it can be done, but it's nowhere near as fun.
I quite like this game. I mean, if it's Pong you want, this is about as good as it's going to get, and with four players, it gets pretty intense after a while. Sure Basketball and Volleyball suck, but the others are good.
For some reason I just can't play the VIDEO OLYMPICS with Stella (or JStella)... Does anybody have a suggestion? It only appears the opponent (controlled by computer), and my paddle just isnt on screen...
Great review, and that game looks pretty good for it's time if you ask me. That game is far better then all the pong clones... I mean 'sports' video game consoles that were being made back then. Most of those only had 10 to 30 'games' or so ;)
Well the Olympics only reamergered after the end of WWII with the 1952 London Olympics, so if they copied it then, it'd have been too soon for the copyright to expire.
They also re-copyright the name for each new Olympic event.
Sweet review. I never had a 2600, so I appricate your insight into these 4-bit games. I've gotta continue working on my own reviews. please check out my channel for my works.
Another great review. Have a nice Holiday Aqualung! Do you have a new NES review waiting in the wings, or perhaps on the backburner to be a little more accurate?
Anyway, the animation on the ball in basket and volley looked pretty decent tbh... it's just that everything's so damn bland, it's just... Pong really :p which was a game that was already out for 5 years back then. Then again, you can't really compare it: video games were revolutionary as they were back then, so it's still a long way from Pong to this (backgrounds! other textures! animations!)
But then Pac-Man hit the arcades and made this look bad :p
if i had to go to atari gaming i would literally fuckin kill myself !

At least Decathalon seemed more like a real olympics game.

I'm watching the Olympics in Vancouver right now, and I swear this game is an exact replica.

Quadripong was probably the predecessor for Warlords, a great 2600 game back in the day. Hope we see that soon. :)

...Now imagine if NBC had to do "live coverage" of Olympic athletes being forced to play this game. XDDD
That'd be "exciting". >.>;;

I'm surprised they could get away calling it Olympics as that's a copyrighted word!
ScrewAttackEurope 3 years ago 3
Hmm maybe it was copyrighted a long time ago and is public domain now.

I always hated how Atari would say there are 50 or whatever on their games here. It's very misleading to say the least.
