  • I had this 45, and I remember the bass was a lot louder on it. Overwhelming... I loved it!

  • released in July 1969...

  • Great song. I've been to Montello; great town. Do they still have the waterfall in the center of town?

  • great beatles cover.first time i've heard this version was in 1990 when i found the45 to this.like it since then.the beatles version wasn' t release as a 45 until 1994 as part of capitol's jukebox single series(which it was released on green vinyl).great posting.

  • Drum solo and organ...Better than the Beatles

  • @patrat2000 I still think this song kicks the shit out of me!....right on brother PAT!!!

  • @patrat2000 Better than the Beatles you must be kidding

  • I haven't heard this in forty years. Outstanding! I may have only heard this tune a couple of times, but I always remembered it. Thank you so much!

  • I rember seeing these guys at Pines Ballroom

in Bloomer Wi. Anybody rember a band called Tounge

    back in those days.

  • Very good to hear this again, I had this record new as a kid, played the heck out of it, knew of this version before the Beatles somehow.

  • Underground Sunshine was actually from Montello, WI (closer to Madison than La Crosse). They were managed by Madison radio personality Jonathan Little, whose sister, Jane, was in the band. The song peaked at #26 in BB and #19 in Cash Box. They're covered in my book, "Do You Hear That Beat".

  • @gem4777 I remember thinking of another band from Wisconsin (The Last Draft) when I wrote the information. Thanks :)

  • Yes, Last Draft was from La Crosse. They are in my 2nd WI book, "On That Wisconsin Beat". I'm surprised to even see them mentioned. Are you from WI?

    Gary Myers

  • Its hard to find a clean copy of this one.

Too much compression. Actually this was a hit in the summer of '69

  • Excellent cover! I vaguely remember this tune on the radio in 1968.
