In reference to the comment by jacobgarcia "...and what happens when something goes wrong with that electric motor, that .60 cents per gal. is not going to matter any more because that mechanic...", think of how many hundred moving parts there are in an internal combustion motor to go wrong, as apposed to the electric motor with ONLY 2 moving parts to go wrong!
Win-win!
Returned from A national Australian EV meet 2 weeks ago, great ideas & cars!
...and what happens when something goes wrong with that electric motor, that .60 cents per gal. is not going to matter any more because that mechanic that is certified for that particular motor is going to charge you "up the ass"
I honestly would like to be able to work on my own vehicle, i can trust my work and it's cheaper.
"I have to doubt that one of the big 3 would step out of line like this from the rest of them. Damn I hate being pessimistic!"
In case you didn't know the GM Volt and Chrysler ENVI vehicles with the same type of driveline go on sale in Nov. 2010 as 2011 models. GM starts construction of their test fleet, 80+ cars, in June 2009 and the mules (test vehicles with another body) have been on the road since last summer and wintered quite well in Michigan and Canada.
as a elevator constructor, i have a idea for all of you. a 2 cylinder new contructon type generator that produces 480A, 60HZ @ idle makes enough electricity for a 80 horse power electric motor ( elevator traction drum machine ) to lift a 12,000 lbs elevator cab at (if we wanted to) 2,000 ft a minute or more. the drum just goes round and round like a drive axle. fact is we have had the technolegy since the forties to do this truck. what make you think they will do it now?
that is the same story like with the EV 1 they will listeit and NOT SELL it to you ! BUT INSTEAD WILL CRUSH THEM ! AND GIVE YOU MONEY TO BY A HUMMER AND TO LOBY FOR OIL COMPANIES !
My first response is " This is great, given the ability to power other items with the generator actually makes a lot of sense. I'm surprise that one of the big 3 would produce this". My second response is "Wait... I doubt they have". Until I see one on the road I have to doubt that one of the big 3 would step out of line like this from the rest of them. Damn I hate being pessimistic!

Imagine owning a company that retrofitted pickup trucks.
There are MILLIONS of pickups driving around today that can be retrofitted!
One problem COST!
