You all need to remember. This was made to compete with Marvel v.s. Capcom. DC made the developers loosen up on the violence. Obviously, they feared the fans might revolt if Batman or any other of their characters were maimed and mutilated. The developers already declared this game a failure, so quit bitching about it. If you want the blood and violence, play MK9. Plenty of it there.
