Sorry to sound so negative,I love this job,and work at a small town fire dept as a firefighter/medic for 7+ years, imjust tired of watching good people get burned out by system abuse and nonsense.Luckily being in a smaller town, were spared most of that BS type calls, but when they do come,it grates me to no end to have to rush back for an actual call and waste precious time while babysitting a faulty alarm and such.
Gotta get ready to run them 3-6 false alarms and granny fell outta bed, shit herself and wants put back in bed @ 3 AMtype calls.Dont forget the stingy neigbors who call everytime their neighbors burns a legal 2x2 recreation fire becausean ash fell on their lawn.Or the stupid do gooders who see a car overheat and report a fully involved vehicle fire without ever bother to stop to confirm an actual fire was ever there. No wonder so many volunteer and part time depts are disappearing.....
im 18 and taking my EMT right now for the riverside community college fire academy, god i cant wait to do this stuff!! all i think about everyday is being a firefighter for my city!!!
This is only the academy part of it.. They want to make sure you are in Excellent shape to do your job. And they are instilling respect in you. The program is actually on the Fox reality channel.. They are filming Class36.. I will tell you what this academy looks harder than the Marines.
your retarded... basic for the marines is harder than the academy for a FF.
please join the marines and spend 4 years of your life wondering if the next day your going to get shot. so stfu. your prob not even a FF or a marine. soooo time to be quiet. please k thanks bye.
How about spending the next 25 years of your life wondering if the next day, you're going to die in a fire, while trying to save lifes and property. AT EASE, JARHEAD! We appreciate what the Corps does. Now appreciate what we do. Are you even in the Corps? If so, you know better than to leave Marines in lower case letters! WHAT'S YOU MAJOR MALFUNCTION, PRIVATE PYLE?
@soooTyLeR Hey jackass are u even in the Marines. How come the M is lower case. My Ssgt woud kick my ass for that. I been a Firefighter for 4 years and you must be a (pog) huh. Real Marines dont go around braging if your joining the Corps for the fame and glory you have got another thing comeing.
@timberland1108 hey we came to this video to see firefighting and your talking about the marines. Are you a marine thats looking back in the past saying god ii was a firefighter ?
Also I don't see how running on the fire ground makes us look stupid as well. I work for a large east coast fire department that is always in the top 10 for calls in the country every year. We are known for having some of the most aggressive engine ops in the nation. We HAVE to run or we would probably be fired before even making it out of the academy. We run in, put the fire out, and leave as fast as possible since we need to be ready for the next call when each engine runs 15-35 runs/day.
Some of these comments are hilarious. Just because your small fire department does it one way, doesn't mean it's the "right" way. These guys do what they do because it works. They are a large department that sees a lot more action than you.
My department has an academy like this as well. It's a para-military organization. Most Marines from my department thought that the academy was actually harder than boot camp. We do it because it works. We are one of the busiest depts in the nation.
I pull the attack line, fight the fire, save what I can, and go home. I don't think Im part of some elite firefighter division, I don't act like a marine, I don't run on the fireground, and I don't carry flags around either. I have better things to do, like, for example, inspect our gear on my off time, make sure everything got put back, and make sure the hosebed is accurate and correct.
sorry, but I didn't join the marines, so Im not going to act like I did.
oh, and I guarantee you, nobody is ever going to expect you to stand at attention, and nobody is ever going to inspect your uniform. so there is no point in thinking someone actually will.
im lost. I was always told NOT to run on the fire grounds. NOT to act like a marine. and I don't recall carrying flags, standing at attention, OR having someone come and inspect my uniform....
WHAT IS THIS??
I didn't sign up for a military-look alike type of career!
I want to fight fires and save lives, not act like a marine.
im sorry, but I think you mixed firefighting up with the Marines.
Typical response from some undisciplined POS. Guess the fire service isn't for you. At least not in California. Too bad.
Just curious, when you went to school did they have you singing the "I'm special" songs all day long? Did you get a trophy for being the last place team? Oh, I'm sorry, they probably didn't keep score, right?
I am glade I am no longer in the fire service, being a volunteer the paid people where I live come in and take over the place like they own it. Being a volunteer falls under different rules, you not obligated to do any. That means you pull on a fire you tell the officer what you are doing not the officer tell you what to do. The NFPA is just a large group of firefighters who inflated the cost of the fire service and have very high expiations.
I am sorry, but you don't seem to have a whole lot of intelligent things to say, or at least you cannot articulate yourself well enough to get your point across.
First off, there are only 50 states, not 52 as you stated. Secondly, your spelling is terrible. Thirdly, there is nothing wrong with having a para-military academy. It produces a better prepared employee who is ready to take on the stress of the job. Lastly, it is up to the department, not state, as to whether they will accept a
@master1090618 What? wow, i am also glad that you are not in the fire service anymore. You clearly don't understand the Chain of command and with that attitude were gonna get you, your partner or someone else injured or worse yet killed.
Training there is a course for everything you could think of... Better yet when you take a firefighter course it is not universal, that means a couple of things. You want to go to another state and be a firefighter you get to do the hole thing all over again. National Certification is stupid it is voluntary recognized by each state if the state want too, not recognized by all 52 states, so then what is the purpose of the National Certification... it is stupid!
And when you enter the academy you go through this want a be boot camp give me a break... no body has any business turn the academy in a military like atmosphere boot camp belongs to arm forces not to the civilian industry. As far as federal funding goes I would make shore that all of the states within the US all have a standard before anyone get any federal tax money, it is nothing but a total free for all.
my boys and galz ocfa!! yay baby my aunt was a firefighter til she hurt her back on a call she coundlt work no more they told her she was hurt but now shes married with a new baby boy born on the september 6th 2009 a month premature tho
I am very proud to say that my dad is part of THE OCFA! and why make such a muck over the title of this video...even if it left out the "professional" part people would have a negative thing to say. In all honesty, Orange County Fire Authority is professional in all ways possible. My dad ALWAYS tells me do it the OCFA way...GREAT VIDEO! -Shelly-
That's not completely true, I was paid per hour per call and per training hour. Most volunteers don't get insurance or the "guaranteed" check every week.
Ha ha. Your little bitch ass would hope I am neither, but I am both. I have FORGOTTEN about more structure fires that you'll respond to in your sorry career. POSER!!
I've had my share slick... Don't really want anymore. You can have the rest. If it makes you feel better.... YOU WIN!
Its sad you feel that you have to compete with others in your profession. Your postings make you look like a REAL BIG MAN. For the record... YOU WIN THE COMPETITION!! Now you can put more stickers on your truck and buy some more fire t-shirts. We all want to be like you.
Firemedic561, You should get with your Chief and talk about how to better your fire prevention standards so you don't have so many fires that you forget so many. Then maybe your department will get a promoted to an ISO rating of 7 or something.
Just for your info, my department ALSO has a 1 ISO rating. And having a lot of fires isn't always a prevention issue. There are a lot of really old parts of the city I live in. Stupid ass!
