Ya, doesn't make sense that they would replace the CGT with this. For one thing, it has alot less HP than the CGT. I would imagine the top speed is less too.
It actually has around 700 horsepower with the electric motors. The top speed is just slightly less. I heard that it will cost nearly as much as the carrera gt as well. It sounds like replacing it to me.

@Froasier Because the tech can be out done purely by better engineering. The honda CRX 4c. when new got about 60 miles to the gallon. Not only that but the actual emissions were lower because the CRX had cats. Hybrids run at a low enough temp that a cat will not work hence the reason hybrids do not have cats. A standard TDiesel is cleaner in comparison and also gets much better milage. The tech that should have been used is TD charged electric engines if they wanted to appeal to "GREEN"
Exactly my thoughts when they started releasing the mpg numbers on the hybrids, I guess I forgot haha. And that's not even taking into account the ecological costs of both manufacturing and disposing of the hybrids. The CR-X obviously isn't a high powered car, but you're right TD is probably the way to go.
Whether porsche buyers care or not about the environment or not is not the issue. Billions of people are driving around 24hrs a day 365 days a year. Manufacturers of any kind of car should be looking for ways to conserve energy and build cars using less resources with recyclable materials. It's still a bit of a joke that this car even with electric motors is using a 500hp V8. I like speed as much as the next guy, but at some point we must reflect at what cost these fleeting stimulations come.

I agree though, Hybrids are retarded, but this really is not a hybrid because the batteries alone don't take you far, and are primarily used for a HP boost when racing. Hybrids are usually around 50/50 power between gas and bat's, but this car closer to 72/28.

You ever think that an electric car will outperform gas vehicles? I think electric cars have a ton of potential and will one day be faster than today's gas race cars.
I have to back up maximusben1. Porsche have always been one of the most efficient super cars / sports cars in the market. Ferrari/Lamborghini gets mpg in the 10s with only a couple that get 20. The Porsche 911 GT3, Turbo, & GT2 gets mpg well in the 20s. And certainly the Porsche don't lose out in performance with that efficiency.
This car is I feel what you get when Porsche try's, amazing, I really hope they build it. the Germans once in awhile decide to bring something out like this just to show how much better they are then the rest of the world at anything engineering related.

Wonderful, amazing vehicle. Porsche will build this, even if limited numbers at insane prices, there was WAY too much R&D and tech set into making this spectacular thing. Amazing how little people know about Hybrids though looking at these comments, its like everyone who sees "Hybrid" automatically thinks "Prius" and nothing else is available with the tech...

Why make this car a hybrid anyways? Who's gonna spend god knows what on a car that runs partially on batteries? Fuck hybrids. They suck. Porsche is claiming all these awesome performance figures but how long does anyone think the car can actually pull those numbers? Maybe twice. When driven hard, this car is gonna need recharging constantly. And what about weight? I bet this thing weighs a lot with all those stupid batteries. I can think of 15 cars I'd rather have, 1 of them: Carrera GT

@buttnut1080 you do realize it has a 500hp v-8 and the car uses regenerative braking? So it it can recharge automatically.
and in the same way this car may run out of charge, all other cars run out of gas, the amount of charge doesn't decide power output anymore than the amount of gas in a car decides how much horsepower a car has

It's lighter then GTR, and the batteries wont be used all the time, just certain times. I agree though, Hybrids are retarded, but this really is not a hybrid because the batteries alone don't take you far, and are primarily used for a HP boost when racing. Hybrids are usually around 50/50 power between gas and bat's, but this car closer to 72/28.

Manufacturers MAKE hybrids to save on "gas and shit". The tools are what make it a hybrid, not how it's used. This is a concept car, a demonstration of the technology, not an actual product. See what the production version has and then judge what people will buy it for. If anything, think of it as a sweet hybrid, compared to a lame one (Prius).

They have high power for low litters....(2.9-4L for 255 to 550 hp) most porsche engines are withing European CO2 emission standard and are fuel efficient! Their least efficient cars were the cayennes, but with the 2011 model, they made that suv greaner and faster at the same time. The have a gt3 hybrid, a cayenne s hybrid and now this one...i say that porsche is fuel efficient for its category!

It's Porsche flexing their engineering muscle. and yes, people will buy it. But they in my humble opinion are not doing this to be green, they're doing it to say that the current hybrid tech is weak sauce, and that you don't need a prius. as a Porsche owner, you're right, I'm one of the ones who doesn't give a sh*t about my MPG's. But the technology in this concept is flat out amazing. I doubt it'll get produced, but it's amazing as hell, and if it does, the final product will be as well.

I have to back up maximusben1. Porsche have always been one of the most efficient super cars / sports cars in the market. Ferrari/Lamborghini gets mpg in the 10s with only a couple that get 20. The Porsche 911 GT3, Turbo, & GT2 gets mpg well in the 20s. And certainly the Porsche don't lose out in performance with that efficiency.
