  • good kung fu

  • Great, simply great

  • Excellent re-direction and small circle techniques. Critics pls. don't waste your time posting it only shows childish disrespect. If you only what Martial Arts to hurt others or be a "bad-ass" go hang out in east L.A. or South Chi-Town and challenge some gang members.

  • @MrWaterfighter

So why do they invent martial art in the first place? You must be reading too many chinese proverbs. Dude, martial arts is for killing others until there are laws of the land created.

  • I think GM Huang was being nice

  • Why do you say Sanda is crap these days??? There's people in China that train wushu all their life as conditioning and use sanda for actual fighting, and they're very scary, especially their sidekicks...

  • I have to say it doesn't look like the wrestler ever figured out what was going on. also looks like he didn't study his opponent before hand, he didn't even know how to approach him at the start. Very interesting video, glad it's up here.

  • Tension in one direction. Relax and release in the opposite direction. Very effective

  • if the wrester was just a western one, the fight might have ended early...and deadly!

  • @kingZpain no difference, same thing, the western wrestler his tensions and power would be absorbed/ redirected back to him the moment he touches the master.

  • lmao even 480 got shitty HQ

  • that is old school man I wouldnt mess with these dudes no way

  • Tai Chi Chuan encompasses Shuai(wrestling), Na(seizing & locking), Ti(kicking), and Da(striking). Shuai Jiao isn't a style in itself, but there are styles OF Shuai Jiao. The term "Shuai Jiao" is a Mandarin pinyin that means wrestling in general, not "Chinese" wrestling.

  • Dirty Wrestler.

He pretended to shake Huangs hand, and he was gonna try to cheap shot him. Huan didn't fall for that, the wrestler snapped at him cuz he was mad. HAHAHA.

  • the most time they are standing opposite of eachother and look at them

  • I agree although thre are great athletes training in sanda, it has more to do with western boxing and thai boxing with a twist of shuai jiao than it does to real chuantong wushu. Sad but true. Real kung fu is being prcaticed by the few just as it has always been...

  • Yes. I have yet to see a Chinese tai chi student actually pretending to fall for their sifu's benefit. I'll have to say, I find the notion somewhat odd.

  • size does come into account, it's true, in fact, the smaller, the better.

In this video it is obvious that the wrestler is not the Taiji master's student, he does other things. There would be no reason for him to fake going down..

  • the problem with watching these chinese masters is that in china they have so much respect for there sifu that not to fall would be seen as disrespect, so he does not get a real challenge. i have been training 21 years in karate judo boxing mma and i now only do tai chi it does work. great techniques.i know these masters are great without exaggerateing the technique

  • I keep reading these comments about "falling to not disrespect the sifu" behavior online but I have yet to see evidence of Chinese students actually falling just to show respect for their masters in the training sessions I have personally watched and haven't really seen anything in personal experience of this sort.

  • @Niccomawf

I never fall just to show respect. I fall to cushion the force on me so I don get hurt.

When you are off balance you rather fall with your back rather than your head crushing the ground.

  • The only size difference I see here is the wrestler belly lol...

  • I think the old tai chi master should pull the old classic titty twister on the wrestling goon next time he trys to grab him ... He could reach right under his tank top and apply some chi to his nipples :D

  • he wrestles like he's out of 'Pro' wrestling from the 50's or a luchador.

  • Impressive display. However the size difference isn't that great, althought it seems teamwujin would have you think otherwise. I've practiced push hands with some great tai-chi practitioners and they were extremely strong. On the other hand I've taking down guys almost twice my size with pure boxing so there is really no need to bring up size. Everyone knows it doesnt matter.

  • Nobody other than you believes size doesnt matter.... There are certain principles of physics you are neglecting. Ie critical mass, inertia etc. Don't over exaggerate. Any real fighter knows it only takes 1 lucky hit to drop you. Especially from a 300-400lb man. Humans are unpredictable. Even a novice can get lucky. Two people of equal skill and ability but significant size difference are not even. In my situation, the larger is favored in non weapon cqc.

  • i have to agree that size does come into account when you have 2 fighters of equal skill but it still depends on the situation. in a large open area i would give the advantage to the smaller person and a larger person gets it in a more closed off space. but there are too many variables when it comes to a fight .

  • people today think with their muscle... strenght won't defeat a martial art... tai chi has the same principle as Aikido, a punch won't even touch the master...

This video shows what bullies don't want to believe, martial art technic defeat brain-dead-muscle-fighter...

  • actually the internal aspects are the biggest advantages of combat sports against traditional martial arts. If you don't spar for real, like in most tmas, you won't be able to stay calm in a fight. That can be learned by simply getting used to being under REAL attack. Being able to stay calm and not focusing on technique too much is an internal ability. This can make your fighting effortless like this:

    watch?v=6B7yepxGU8M

I like GM Huang, but don't take him as an excuse for not sparring.

  • wait...u mean combat sports have internal aspects and martial arts don't?

    O.o

  • no, but combat sports are better in every aspect regarding fighting and internal aspects like staying calm and reading your opponent . I practice a lot of Tai Chi and I bring the principles into MMA sparring and it works very well, but training only MMA would beat training only Tai Chi every day. The most important thing is that the attacks i have to deal with in sparring are real and only in the presence of real violence I can learn how to deal with it(the tai chi way).

  • @monkfg You have not learned authentic Tai Chi chuan.

  • Yeah, I have some familiarity with combative Tai Chi people. I think they are good but they should try competing with the best of wrestling too (Olympic caliber wrestlers).

  • Different styles have different principles and rules. Wrestlers do not practice certain martial skills because they are forbidden on the mat. Tai chi is no different, it has rules like 'use no more than 4 oz of force'. You can break the rules, but then it's no longer tai chi. MMA throws away SOME of the rules, but still has rules. It is great practice to spar against many different styles while trying to remain true to your style - if you have one.

  • That old Tai Chi master is a sneaky bastard.

Looks like many of the sudden falls by the wrestler wasn't so much pushes from the Tai Chi master, as they were a foot from the master sneaked behind the wrestlers foot while distracting him with his hands. And then, at an opportune moment hw swipes the wrestlers foot out under him and give him the tinyest of pushes.

    As i said - Sneaky.

    But good.

    :)

  • wow thats awesome

  • lol, he was bigger than the wrestler!

  • I hope u can learn more about taijiquan before saying this again juujuubie. Good luck.

  • Nice old footage, thanks for posting. I presume it was a wrestling match, not a 'fight'? I think Huang's taiji would look a lot different in a match with strikes allowed. I

  • yeah, like an all powerfull killer! imagine if he'd punch the guy in the plexus with the same body unity strength he used to bring him down like nothing over and over again

  • Tai Chi BEST

  • obviously, best!

  • non Sanda fighting wow

  • Sanda/Sanshou is just modern Wushu crap these days! Although in China it is trained similar to Muay Thai ( I have been to both and definately prefer Thailand & Muay Thai) Sanda these days may as well be another TKD like sport.

  • I have trained in sanda and I don't think its really crap. Its useful training to compliment other forms of kung fu training in my opinion. But I do agree that Sanda these days is getting more and more weak and too much like Muay Thai. Its losing its originality.

  • Amen.

  • to fredocor, i think that everything have to change to be continuously improving. Muay thai, whether u agree or not, is a really strong stand up style, . why not?

  • i second that

  • @fredocorleone47 agree

  • awesome

  • This is real. My dad recalled this weird tai chi master who was challenging every strong guys in bukit gambir, Muar in Malaysia to try and box him up except on his head (the only condition before the fight) so that he could set up a school in that area. He told me many "bull" guys went up to show off but the stronger their punch the further they got blow away. Thats why my dad remembered till this day. It was many years back when he was in his teen.

  • i train under professor sing ong yek, generally considered huangs best student, and if prof yek is anything to go by then not only is it not faked but if huang had wanted to then he could have injured that wrestler badly, after all he didn't follow up any of those throws at all

  • Tai Chi will not let any wrestler express himself to the fullest... Thats why it looks like he's not a good wrestler... But even a guy from WWF would look silly trying to fight a Tai Chi Master... Because the stronger the guy is, the more Qi energy and strength Tai Chi absorbs to its advantage...

  • I'm thinking if Master Huang wanted to he could have seriously hurt that guy. But all the throws were pretty gentle

  • he was gentle with the grappler..

  • What kind of a wrestler was this master battling with? An Olympic wrestler or those from WWF?

  • There are many other styles other than what you mentioned. (FYI) This wrestler was former Shuijiao champion who nagged and gave shit to master huang for over 10 years. For some reason he finally aggreed to the challenge..

  • WHAT THE HECK IS SHUIJIAO?

  • In short, Chinese-wrestling.

To some it's just a category. To most who actually do it, it is an entire art. In some ways it is similar to Judo, Sambo & Western Wrestling...

  • Shui Jiao is chinese wrestling. It involves throwing and tripping and elements of ground fighting. It is used a lot in sanshou.

  • even tho master huang is a tai chi master dont you find it kinda hard to believe that he would get caught continuously. and the wrestler moves soo damn slow. even at the start of the match when he has no contact with M.H.......

  • This was an exhibition match between Tai Chi Master Huang and a professional wrestler so in a sense it is staged. Master Huang was Cheng Man'chings student. There is a book by Master Huang's top western student Patrick Kelly called "Infinite Dao" if anyone is interested in learning more about Master Huang. It is his autobiography of how he travelled to Malaysia in the 70's and started training with him. From what i know, Master Huang was in no way fake

  • The only reason why i think this would be staged is because how he fakes like he is going in but then puts his hands on his hips, people in like the WWE do that stuff.

  • I have all the respect in the world for Tai Chi, but this looks very staged. I know kids in Jr. High that wrestle better than his opponent.

  • as soon as the wrestler touches Huang his strength will feel absorbed resulting in clumsiness

  • wait... who won these match o-o

  • if they were fighting on real hard ground, the wrestler would be injured by the falls.think about that.

  • This guy looks like the worst wrestler in history.

  • This might be because his opponent is using Tai Chi, which is a totally different way of fighting.

  • @BaBu13 not to mention this video has the worst graphics in history.

  • The other guy is too good I'd rather say.

  • Excellent stuff. Thanks for posting.

  • I wish it was better quality
