it's not a vocoder but a speech synthesizer.

Forgive me for being a clueless man on the subject, but how exactly did it work? The speech synthesizer that is.

Did it work through the rectangle-wave generators (Assuming Wikipedia isn't lying, it's had enough mistakes as it is) or did you use PCM samples to sample parts of the speech?

read a note from viznut somewhere that this requires an relatively unfragmented disk to run from, which makes me think this is a vocoder which implements formants using a pre-recorded signal rather than generating its own....cant imagine the 6502 being too good with a band pass filter haha

as far as i've understood, the visual side is somekind of animation which is streamed from disk.

I'd be completely unsurprised, the whole demo looks like it is a demo of the disk drive, not the VIC-20. =p

@nosfeh Im guessing the challenge isnt programming in itself, but limiting the programming to fit VIC 20's low memory? Im betting theres alot of shortcuts necessary :) never programmed on the vic20 myself.. But this looks wicked! Great upload man!

Even tho the speech synth is bad, I really like this one for some reason.

Also thanks for re-capturing this. The stream has a slightly lower sound quality.
