@localwarzone Definitely 2006 !!!!! a 94-5 record by the end of the year and losing ONLY to two differeny players in the whole season!! (Nadal and Murray) unbeatable!!
@MrRyanccm well said, andy and roger are very competitive toward´s each other and andy alway´s bring´s it agains´t federer and vice versa, playing good or bad..

He played probably his best match at the US Open (except the 2003 Final) here and would have beaten anyone else other than Federer
This was a rather foolish match for roddick he tired himself out with this all out aggression and had nothing left he could have at least got a set if he paced himself a bit
whoa roddick actually hits a real man's forehand here...bring back the old roddick forehand andy. your new more "consistent" and lots of spin forehand can't win any winners and you arent getting any faster either... please roddick.
if roddick is gonna serve and volley hes gonna have to rush the net faster and split step to get in position, hes getting caught in "no mans land", hes gotta get outta there
@abcjc1 SO ture I really feel he stays back so much. DOn't get me wrong he's a great ground stroke hitter and server but he can win so many more matches f he comes to the net. But like u said he needs to approach quicker and be more ready like with his split step in order for his volleying to be more effective
this set of highlights drives me nuts. Roddick played so fucking well. Federer is such a cunt on the court it is agonizing. Does he ever just let a ball go? GOD. Roddick rules!
if Roddick played as well as he did in this match in other grand slams then I don't see why he couldnt have made more semi-finals and won more tournaments
Roddick rotates his upper body way to soon on his forehand, totally offsetting the momentum of the rotation and then he ends up having to "arm" the shot. This is why Roddick is unable to penetrate the court and was unable to stay at the top of the game, a shame considering the greatness of his serve.
Also his footwork is poor and he always seems to be playing catch-up, but this could also be helped by having a stronger forehand to dictate point play with...
Easily one of my top favorite matches. It shows both players at the peak of their athletic abilities. Clearly Roddick had the potential to win more slams but Federer is the GOAT. Not much can be done about that.
Makes me kind of sad as well actually seeing this haha, shows a hard fought point for Roddick to go 0-1 up in the second set tiebreak, then the next clip is just Federer 2-1 up, haha.
Federer just has insane reflexes and reaction the way he can deal with some of the things Roddick has tried a few times throughout his career. Not even just againt Roddick either really.
Roddick's expression at 4.01 pretty much sums up his career with Federer. I think he arguably played one of his best matches against Federer in the quarterfinal, he threw everything into his groundstrokes in the first two sets and still walked away with nothing.
I don't think any other player in the world would have beaten roddick in such a form at the us open in three sets. I don't think Nadal and Djokovic would've won that match in 3 sets
Rokddick played unbelievable, but Federer even more
2007 US Open - excellent (especially against Djokovic), 2007 Wimbledon - saved him the final against Nadal, 2007 Masters Cup - Nadal was just hopeless against Federer making 80 % + of first serves.
in my opinion, federer's weakness are deep flat shots, and risky shots like a backhand down-the-line that he may not expect that throw him off, and i think Roddick was trying to do that, and obviously he fails and loses.
@ruaridh2k7 Roddick's backhand was best in 2006-2007 (when he had Jimmy Connors as coach). Now it's not the weapon it used to be and he can't penetrate through the court with it as good as he did then. Same thing with his forehand. In 2003-2004 Roddick had one of the best forehands in the game. Today, it's only mediocre! When you compare Roddick 2004 to Roddick of today, it's like two different players!
@captainbryce1 I agree 100%. Between 2003-2004 Roddick was a great player; exceptional energy levels, great athleticism, a forehand which just blew people away and ludicrously powerful serving. I think his game started to dip around 2005 where he just relied on serve way too much. Personally I miss the Roddick under Connors between 2006-2008. Sure he suffered bad losses in that time, but his energy and tempo were great. Stefanki completely changed him into a slow paced serene type figure.
@Rafathaman94 Federer was the only person who could beat Gonzalez in that tournament.
Federer just came out creaming Roddick and yet Gonzalez stood and pushed him all the way and even had set points! I'm sorry but I don't think Roddick would've won the tournament.
But you're right, Federer has essentially ruined Roddick's career. Crushed his motivation every single encounter.
Roddick came to the net. This is just anecdotal evidence, of course, but look at all the Federer-Roddick highlight videos--important points where Roddick is at the net go Federer's way again, and again, and again.
@Rafathaman94 I think Hewitt would have won Wimbledon 2005. I even think he should have been seeded #2 for Wimbledon but wasn't. Roddick was lucky at Wimbledon and wasn't convincing at all. Could have gone out to Braccially/Grosjean, got lucky in the 4th set tiebreak against Johansson. Hewitt played good tennis and nearly pushed Fed to a 4th set. The final was dissapointing. Roddick came out flat and did the whole disaster combo; S&V behind poor appraoches, loop forehands midcourt.
Well, I think Roddick would have won Wimbledon 2004 and 2009. US Open 06, yes, but only due to a weak field. AO 07 and US Open 07 would be a tossup. Gonzalez and Djokovic were worthy finalists for Federer respectively.
He played dumb here. Many guys would have beaten Roddick. Not from the backcourt - because here Roddick was good from the baseline and served well. But those stupid appraoches at stupid times are what did it.
Now if the Roddick who played Nadal in Miami last year showed up (big groundies with good appraoches and S&V) then he could do serious damage. Won't happen though.
Why has Roddick stopped playing aggressive tennis like this? A couple of years back, like in this match, he was absolutely hammering his groundstrokes, but nowadays, he seems to be a lot more passive from the back of the court, focused on not hitting errors instead of hitting winners. It was much more fun watching him play like this!
Why did Roddick start to grunt like he was getting raped in the latter stages of the first set? Another thing, to beat Federer you don't have to go for winners, you have to have power, but you don't have to hit bombs on every shot, you have to have controlled power with variety and you have to attack Federer's second serve and his slice. A perfect example is when Safin beat him in Australia and when Nalbandian and Nadal beat him. It's controlled aggression, something Roddick never had or will.
Not go for winners? Haha. So I guess Delpo, Berdych and Soderling were just really lucky to beat him then, as after all, they used the WRONG tactics!!
@jaitock1991 Well, Federer feeds off pace very well and he can nullify power with his slice/squash shots, speed and smarts. In terms of back of the court rallies, Delpo, Bedych and Soderling are much better than Roddick. Federer hasn't been the same old Federer that dominated from 2003-2007. Once he got mono in late 2007 and lost his confidence and speed in the following months, it was always gonna be tougher for him. He was past his prime after 2008, when he started losing to these guys.
Roddick is one dimensional. He's not able to think like the greats. He just tries to crush the ball and hopes it's good enough....wrong! Roddick needs to study tennis, not just rely on his natural physical talents. To be great, you must be able to think during a rally and know when to hit a shot.
Roddick played really, really well here. I've never seen his serve look so mean, his volleys so crisp, his ground strokes so dictating (even his mediocre backhand looked threatening).
Too bad Roddick probably pees himself every time he even sees Federer. That mental block is something he will never, ever overcome.
Roddick played a great match, he just totally lost his confidence in the final set after giving the first two his absolute all and still losing them both. What could you do? Federer was just not going to be denied on this day, or in this tournament.
roddick pulls his forehand back too much.Take a look at federer's forehand,he doesnt pull it back too far.Pulling back his forehand too much and hitting it across your body makes it hard to go in for the attack.
@KaminariKatta, I think AR hits his forehand with way too much topspin these days, granted it's a safer shot, it keeps him in rallies but at this late stage in his career he's not helping himself by lengthening the rallies and thus the amount of time he spends on the court. By hitting a higher margin ball (less pace, higher net clearance) he's actually playing a riskier brand of tennis. He should be looking to end points with his FH, flattening them out as much as possible, like he did here.
@jtatsiue he uses a closed stance,no idea why,he should have adopted an open stance, given that he is able to produce such a powerful serve,he probably could have a forehand that is equal with soderling or del potro.
@jtatsiue rafa put´s more spin than anyone, but their is power, behind his as well, which makes it´s a nasty shot..don´t know what andy has done that his forehand is not the same as it was in 03-04, maybe he should lower the tension on his string´s or something..i don´t know.
@extradutyfelt1 its not that, he said himself that consistency is key for him in winning matches, and i assume he feels that if he goes for more like he used to, he'll miss crucial shots. Watch the 04 wimby final, he missed a bunch of shots cuz he went for justa little too much and aimed too close for the line. its not that he can't, Dubai 08, Memphis/Wimby 09, Miami 10, all are examples of him when he plays agressive recently, but he just doesn't feel confident enough to.
@Deadeye287 well, consistency is very important, but andy´s ball from the baseline, doesn´t penetrate as fast as some other player´s and he end´s up grinding out matches sometimes and staying more time on the court, because of that counter-defensive, lleyton hewitt style, im not saying it´s bad, but when andy play´s a more dangerous player, that more defensive posture, can cost him..he´s still my favorite player..
Its amazing to watch how hard Roddick plays, you see how he is physically challenging himself so much. Federer makes it look so smooth and effortless. As a tennis player myself, i watch Federer and can dream of having is form
@chess1212 i don´t see an "SO EASY" victory .. i see a pretty tight match, with the 2 first sets being decided by two balls, in each tie break, and then a 6/2 in the last and still pretty competitive set ... Federer was just too impossible good!
roger was like a god of tennis. he is so skilled and very talented. its like i always anticipate - watch in awe and be blown by it. and he is having fun, i think what i love the best with his play is that he plays with a smile or just having so much fun
Andy played some great points here, shows he can stick with fed definitely, fed at this time was just the god of tennis, it wasnt that Roddick couldnt beat him, it was that NO ONE COULD. Got to give andy credit in this match a lot of great points by him
I love watching both Roddick and Federer play, but when Roddick doesn't even try to go for some shots it pisses me off. I mean some of them I could even get to, you know.
i like the fact that this vid doesn't just show fed hitting winners. he undoubtedly deserved to win this match but at least it gives roddick the credit he deserves.
i felt bad for this roddick, hes a talentless waste but he did have great hart and always gave it all. federer didnt give a shit about it and kept beating him, but karma is a bitch as we all know cus a short while after this a certain dude from spain came along and humiliated federer so bad and so often he had to cry like kid that got his toy stolen in front of billion ppl watchin all over the world. never ever mess with karma cus its more powerful than anything.
@nanananalalala that ``talentless waste´´ you just mentioned is a grand slam champion, has been in 4 other final´s, quite a few semi final´s and quarter´s as well, has 29 titles and one of the best serves ever..you´re right , he is talentless..
@reefric johanson is also a grand slam champion loll, do u even remember him?
look i said tallentless cus everything in this world is relative my friend, roddick on his own is a great champion but compared to some of his coleagues like nadal, fed, and in lesser extent djokovic, he is shit. ppl only remember the greats in every sport. we remember jordan and kobe not steve kerr and rick fox loll. cmon man ur smart u know how this world works.
@nanananalalala johansson made 1 grand slam final, roddick has made 5 and has been a top 10 player, for nearly 10 year´s, along with federer, he came close to wininng a 2nd slam in 2009, maybe you should show some respect..
@reefric no one cares about how many times u become second, on the contrary even players rather lose early then make it to the final and then lose. fed for example said that in the press conf himself, its just less embarassing and no one remembers if u became second or fifth, they only care about who WON. nadal made 2 wimb finals and like 3 semis on hardcourt slams before winning any of them, did anyone talk about that? no, its all about the ones he actually won. maybe you should grow a brain.
@nanananalalala lmao look at this guy talkin out of his ass...the "talentless waste" is in the top 10 (or at least has been) for a while. "humiliated federer so bad and so often he had to cry like kid that goy his toy stolen in frtonf of billion ppl watchin all over the world"?? 1. Federer only cried once, and I bet you'd cry too if you tried so hard to get a championship and lost in the last match 2. he didn't HUMILIATE Federer. and what does karma have to do with anything? it's just skill.
@misterlonely1446 lolll oh dear. go back to jerkin off to lesbian vids kiddo, leave this to ppl who have actually SEEN roddick play during his whole career.
@nanananalalala LOL you trying to insult me, stalker? I see "fail" printed all over. and how are you able to respond to me so quickly? get off the comp and find some friends.
and I've seen roddick play, you dimwit. He's beaten so many people, the only real player he hasn't been able to get past is Federer, and that's understandable.
@misterlonely1446 waiting a while to comment is the same sad trick ppl use when they wait 2 mins to send an answer on msn just to look popular lolll. but since ur still a kiddo its normal for u. fell into that didnt u.
yeh i didnt say u havent seen him play at all u little fck, i said u havent seen him play from the start, cus back then u were a 12 yr old little bitch with prob an ever bigger mouth than now loll. yes he even has beaten federer in but like i said u wouldnt know that.
@nanananalalala nah, actually I was out partying it up with some friends, kid. i don't wait 5 hours to reply to a fucking youtube message lmao. good try though, stalker.
aww, getting angry, I see? ='[[[ Stop sayin "lol" when you don't mean it and when you're not actually happy/laughing (in other words, stop trying to make yourself feel better, fool). and I don't care how roddick played from the start. It's how he's playing now, and he's getting smoked by federer.
@misterlonely1446 ofcourse u were, ur the popular dude loll. and its quite ironic u call me a stalker while u were the one even starting this crap. good try though nerd.
nah, its all joy here mate cus ur roddick got beaten by some fkin amateur in the 3rd round, ur amazing federer didnt even make the final which he should be thankin god for cus anotherrrr humiliation by nadal was waiting for him. so nothing by joy here kiddo, unlike u.
@nanananalalala starting this crap? I like watching tennis videso and I'm simply replying to a message I disagreed with. you're the one continuing the conversation, getting pissed off and shit.
"ur roddick"?? LOL! that's the funniest thing I've heard in a while. He's not my favorite player, I'm just saying the truth. Nadal is better than Roddick, too. I'm not surprised by that. lol "unlike you"? what's that supposed to mean? I'm the one happier between us two, make sure of that.
@misterlonely1446 yes kiddo thats how this world works, if u can dish it out then dont whine about it when u have to take it. if u mingle with other ppls convo then dont expect they just accept ur crap and dont say anything back. as long as u put ur nonsense here against me then u can always expect an answer back. u started it u then u end it. yeh its ur roddick and its ur federer too. and they both love to get smoked by nadal lollll.
I was just stating my opinion, that's all. but you've answered back with negativity and that's what sparked this whole shit up. hahaha well let's say that it is "my roddick" and "my federer"...got a problem with that, KIDDO??
@misterlonely1446 dear lonely fella lolllllls, thats ur reality. whats on paper is that u started talking negative to someone who wasnt even speaking to u and now ur crying like ur buddy federer cus u cant take it when someone else does it to u.
its ok if ur lonely and u wanna talk to someone, u dont need to pick a fight for that lolll.
@nanananalalala haha who says I'm lonely? You're the one who's on the comp 24/7. lmaoo "ur crying"?? in your dreams, i'm crying LOL!!! and where's Federer crying? please, show me.
I didn't mean for this argument to happen, yet look at our convo again. you were the one who brought the negativity to a whole new level so here we are.
hahahahaha you continue to think that you're the BMOC but you're failing miserably, kid! (and again, don't say "lol" when you're not actually happy/laughing.)
@misterlonely1446 LOLLLLLLLL ur amazing. i actually look forward to ur answer everything i get home its the first thing i check i swear. keep it up kiddo. this is even better than seeing federer cry/lose.
@nanananalalala LOLLLLL well it just happened to be the day that I got on the computer. I went on my mail and saw your messsage, so I didn't want to be rude and replied back.
and you're just a pussy to admit that you have no friends. why else would someone put their username as "nanananalalala"?? lmaooo. "this is even better than seeing federer cry/lose". oh, what so you're a bully now too?
if you're insulting me again with the name, remember the song. or do you have memory loss, too?
@nanananalalala thanks, kiddo, I appreciate that. Of course, you're saying that because you don't have any friends or family, right? lol thats interesting. now go get a life, stop replying to me, get off your lazy ass and make some friends. or don't.
@nanananalalala loll thats kiddo, i appreciate that. I guess you don't have friends or family though. Therefore, I suggest you do this: stop this argument, don't reply to this message, get off the comp, and make some friends. you'll find life much more fun like that. or don't.
@misterlonely1446 nah kiddo, u shouldnt have started this if u dont wanna be the one ending it. we doin this as long as u keep doing it.
besides u need this moral support loll in times like these when roddick is clammin on to top 10 and federer is 6000 points behind nadal and everyone talkin about nadal being the g.o.a.t.
@nanananalalala see what I mean? i reply, immediately you respond. smh.
alrighty. but just so you know, you were the one that provoked me. or have you forgotten?:
"lolll oh dear. go back to jerkin off to lesbian vids kiddo, leave this to ppl who have actually SEEN roddick play during his whole career" i was stating my opinion, proving how you're wrong and you bash at me. whatever you want, though.
LOL moral support? that's too funny. idc if federer's not #1 anymore. he's still GOAT to me
@misterlonely1446 yeh but i told u waiting to respond just to look popular isnt that attractive anymore when ur not a teenager anymore so thats why. that means u can do it and u do to perfection.
nah i wasnt cus the reason why my first comment was so negative was cus ur first comment at me was equally negative. nice try tho but if u had used ur brain u would know that u were the first to even start this conv.
to u sure, i even know ppl who think roddick is goat lol, doesnt mean its a fact.
@nanananalalala and like i told you, i don't wait hours just to reply to a youtube video...that's just sad lmao.
so you think "lmao look at this guy talkin out of his ass..." is equally negative to "lolll oh dear. go back to jerkin off to lesbian vids kiddo, leave this to ppl who have actually SEEN roddick play during his whole career"?? lol woww...whatever you think, then.
@nanananalalala yup, nanananana its KIDDO loll... im pretty sure you got it
"and like i told you, i don't wait hours just to reply to a youtube video...that's just sad lmao.
so you think "lmao look at this guy talkin out of his ass..." is equally negative to "lolll oh dear. go back to jerkin off to lesbian vids kiddo, leave this to ppl who have actually SEEN roddick play during his whole career"?? lol woww...whatever you think, then.
@misterlonely1446 HUH? wtf u been smokin kiddo? i never got an email from u cus first of all i never gave u my mail address. and secondly those passages u freakishly copied and pasted were things we spoke about like month ago so again wtf have u been on? get some help man, this is not healthy.
@nanananalalala i meant the reply here, kiddo...dedede? yes, which is why i am reposting it now so we can get this party started again.
LOL you want ME to get some help? you were the one who was stalking me in the first place, telling everyone how i "jerk off to lesbian videos." and you tell me that I have problems? hahaha smh
@misterlonely1446 hahaha ohhhhhh so u were getting lonely again and wanted some company. chillin with my friends my ass LOLLL, told ya i know when i see a nerd (besides u didnt make it hard either with that name of urs lolllll).
so let me change that advice from getting help to just getting some friends. seriously i know it can be hard sometimes but im sure u have some positive qualities on side of the crazy stuff u say here. just be urself, be spontaneous and u will meet some ppl.
roddick should play more like this. at least we have other americans like jack sock, ryan harrison, and donald young.

@StevenCBlah
i dont think its the fact that he approaches the net that cost him the pointd
i mean, with roddick's rallying skills he has about a 10% chance of hitting anything from the baseline
at least a net play will add a little more factor of luck and put a little pressure on federer
it's HOW he approaches the net thats stupid
most of his approach shots arent deep or have any real power or topspin on it
placement is extremely poor at times too

hattrickster33 8 months ago
Makes me kind of sad as well actually seeing this haha, shows a hard fought point for Roddick to go 0-1 up in the second set tiebreak, then the next clip is just Federer 2-1 up, haha.
TopDog69 8 months ago
Federer just has insane reflexes and reaction the way he can deal with some of the things Roddick has tried a few times throughout his career. Not even just againt Roddick either really.
TopDog69 8 months ago
Roddick's expression at 4.01 pretty much sums up his career with Federer. I think he arguably played one of his best matches against Federer in the quarterfinal, he threw everything into his groundstrokes in the first two sets and still walked away with nothing.
bpatrice49 8 months ago
I don't think any other player in the world would have beaten roddick in such a form at the us open in three sets. I don't think Nadal and Djokovic would've won that match in 3 sets
Rokddick played unbelievable, but Federer even more
69wiwi69 8 months ago
Roddick's backhand prior Connors made adjustaments was a weak shot...

If roddick played this with this intensity, I see him breaking the top 8 and going to the Year End Finals in London again

Federer's serve was brilliant throughout 2007.
2007 US Open - excellent (especially against Djokovic), 2007 Wimbledon - saved him the final against Nadal, 2007 Masters Cup - Nadal was just hopeless against Federer making 80 % + of first serves.
That's the top 3 of his serving performances
89Pleasek 9 months ago
@89Pleasek Don't forget Wimbledon 2009.
3timeMVPNash 8 months ago
yep, 2009 French Open as well, I remember he served 4 aces in his 4 service points in the tie-break against Soderling
89Pleasek 8 months ago
in my opinion, federer's weakness are deep flat shots, and risky shots like a backhand down-the-line that he may not expect that throw him off, and i think Roddick was trying to do that, and obviously he fails and loses.
stupidman41 9 months ago
this highlights package is missing the highlight of the match, federer's return in the tie-break

Pretty sure Roddick burned more calories during that match than Federer
TomTrix99 9 months ago in playlist Tennis 2
If it was one thing I liked about Roddick back then it was his effort, he doesn't seem to have it anymore.
I must say though his backhand was working nicely in this match, he should have used it more. Just not at the net like he kept doing...
The point from 2:07 to 2:15 just shows how brilliant Federer is with just one stroke which turns out to be his weakest.
ruaridh2k7 9 months ago
@ruaridh2k7 Roddick's backhand was best in 2006-2007 (when he had Jimmy Connors as coach). Now it's not the weapon it used to be and he can't penetrate through the court with it as good as he did then. Same thing with his forehand. In 2003-2004 Roddick had one of the best forehands in the game. Today, it's only mediocre! When you compare Roddick 2004 to Roddick of today, it's like two different players!
captainbryce1 8 months ago
@captainbryce1 I agree 100%. Between 2003-2004 Roddick was a great player; exceptional energy levels, great athleticism, a forehand which just blew people away and ludicrously powerful serving. I think his game started to dip around 2005 where he just relied on serve way too much. Personally I miss the Roddick under Connors between 2006-2008. Sure he suffered bad losses in that time, but his energy and tempo were great. Stefanki completely changed him into a slow paced serene type figure.
bpatrice49 8 months ago
@Rafathaman94 Federer was the only person who could beat Gonzalez in that tournament.
Federer just came out creaming Roddick and yet Gonzalez stood and pushed him all the way and even had set points! I'm sorry but I don't think Roddick would've won the tournament.
But you're right, Federer has essentially ruined Roddick's career. Crushed his motivation every single encounter.
ruaridh2k7 9 months ago
I enjoy a Roddick match for once, but a part of Federer's skills is his anti-Roddick magic.
XizelSF 9 months ago
"how did he lose it??"
Roddick came to the net. This is just anecdotal evidence, of course, but look at all the Federer-Roddick highlight videos--important points where Roddick is at the net go Federer's way again, and again, and again.
mikatagahara1212 9 months ago
@Rafathaman94 I think Hewitt would have won Wimbledon 2005. I even think he should have been seeded #2 for Wimbledon but wasn't. Roddick was lucky at Wimbledon and wasn't convincing at all. Could have gone out to Braccially/Grosjean, got lucky in the 4th set tiebreak against Johansson. Hewitt played good tennis and nearly pushed Fed to a 4th set. The final was dissapointing. Roddick came out flat and did the whole disaster combo; S&V behind poor appraoches, loop forehands midcourt.
Th3BlackReaper 9 months ago
@Rafathaman94
Well, I think Roddick would have won Wimbledon 2004 and 2009. US Open 06, yes, but only due to a weak field. AO 07 and US Open 07 would be a tossup. Gonzalez and Djokovic were worthy finalists for Federer respectively.
Th3BlackReaper 9 months ago
I can tell That roddick is like using 200% effort and fed ? 50% :D
Masterzofall 9 months ago
I don't care what people say, but if roddick played this aggressively all the time.... I think he would be absolutely ridiculous
rafafanatic15 10 months ago
@rafafanatic15
Th3BlackReaper 9 months ago
I love how he gives it everything hes got grinding to the bone.
shangman589 10 months ago
Andy was playing like his life depended on it and he still lost.
atom57 10 months ago
If Roddick would just think about his shots a little more, he'd be one of the best players ever, if he is not already.. haha
nerdskater101 10 months ago
Why has Roddick stopped playing aggressive tennis like this? A couple of years back, like in this match, he was absolutely hammering his groundstrokes, but nowadays, he seems to be a lot more passive from the back of the court, focused on not hitting errors instead of hitting winners. It was much more fun watching him play like this!
jaitock1991 10 months ago
Why did Roddick start to grunt like he was getting raped in the latter stages of the first set? Another thing, to beat Federer you don't have to go for winners, you have to have power, but you don't have to hit bombs on every shot, you have to have controlled power with variety and you have to attack Federer's second serve and his slice. A perfect example is when Safin beat him in Australia and when Nalbandian and Nadal beat him. It's controlled aggression, something Roddick never had or will.
davd1986 10 months ago
@davd1986
Not go for winners? Haha. So I guess Delpo, Berdych and Soderling were just really lucky to beat him then, as after all, they used the WRONG tactics!!
jaitock1991 10 months ago
@jaitock1991 Well, Federer feeds off pace very well and he can nullify power with his slice/squash shots, speed and smarts. In terms of back of the court rallies, Delpo, Bedych and Soderling are much better than Roddick. Federer hasn't been the same old Federer that dominated from 2003-2007. Once he got mono in late 2007 and lost his confidence and speed in the following months, it was always gonna be tougher for him. He was past his prime after 2008, when he started losing to these guys.
davd1986 10 months ago

SSky06 1 year ago
roddick pulls his forehand back too much.Take a look at federer's forehand,he doesnt pull it back too far.Pulling back his forehand too much and hitting it across your body makes it hard to go in for the attack.
KaminariKatta 1 year ago
@KaminariKatta, I think AR hits his forehand with way too much topspin these days, granted it's a safer shot, it keeps him in rallies but at this late stage in his career he's not helping himself by lengthening the rallies and thus the amount of time he spends on the court. By hitting a higher margin ball (less pace, higher net clearance) he's actually playing a riskier brand of tennis. He should be looking to end points with his FH, flattening them out as much as possible, like he did here.
jtatsiue 1 year ago
@jtatsiue he uses a closed stance,no idea why,he should have adopted an open stance, given that he is able to produce such a powerful serve,he probably could have a forehand that is equal with soderling or del potro.
The closed stance is also hard to volley with,
KaminariKatta 1 year ago
@jtatsiue rafa put´s more spin than anyone, but their is power, behind his as well, which makes it´s a nasty shot..don´t know what andy has done that his forehand is not the same as it was in 03-04, maybe he should lower the tension on his string´s or something..i don´t know.
extradutyfelt1 1 year ago
@extradutyfelt1 its not that, he said himself that consistency is key for him in winning matches, and i assume he feels that if he goes for more like he used to, he'll miss crucial shots. Watch the 04 wimby final, he missed a bunch of shots cuz he went for justa little too much and aimed too close for the line. its not that he can't, Dubai 08, Memphis/Wimby 09, Miami 10, all are examples of him when he plays agressive recently, but he just doesn't feel confident enough to.
Deadeye287 1 year ago
@Deadeye287 well, consistency is very important, but andy´s ball from the baseline, doesn´t penetrate as fast as some other player´s and he end´s up grinding out matches sometimes and staying more time on the court, because of that counter-defensive, lleyton hewitt style, im not saying it´s bad, but when andy play´s a more dangerous player, that more defensive posture, can cost him..he´s still my favorite player..
extradutyfelt1 1 year ago
@extradutyfelt1 im not arguing im just saying thats what he feels and thats why he chooses to play the game the way he does

i felt bad for this roddick, hes a talentless waste but he did have great hart and always gave it all. federer didnt give a shit about it and kept beating him, but karma is a bitch as we all know cus a short while after this a certain dude from spain came along and humiliated federer so bad and so often he had to cry like kid that got his toy stolen in front of billion ppl watchin all over the world. never ever mess with karma cus its more powerful than anything.
nanananalalala 1 year ago
@nanananalalala that ``talentless waste´´ you just mentioned is a grand slam champion, has been in 4 other final´s, quite a few semi final´s and quarter´s as well, has 29 titles and one of the best serves ever..you´re right , he is talentless..
reefric 1 year ago
@reefric johanson is also a grand slam champion loll, do u even remember him?
look i said tallentless cus everything in this world is relative my friend, roddick on his own is a great champion but compared to some of his coleagues like nadal, fed, and in lesser extent djokovic, he is shit. ppl only remember the greats in every sport. we remember jordan and kobe not steve kerr and rick fox loll. cmon man ur smart u know how this world works.
nanananalalala 1 year ago
@nanananalalala johansson made 1 grand slam final, roddick has made 5 and has been a top 10 player, for nearly 10 year´s, along with federer, he came close to wininng a 2nd slam in 2009, maybe you should show some respect..
reefric 1 year ago
@reefric no one cares about how many times u become second, on the contrary even players rather lose early then make it to the final and then lose. fed for example said that in the press conf himself, its just less embarassing and no one remembers if u became second or fifth, they only care about who WON. nadal made 2 wimb finals and like 3 semis on hardcourt slams before winning any of them, did anyone talk about that? no, its all about the ones he actually won. maybe you should grow a brain.
nanananalalala 1 year ago
@nanananalalala lmao look at this guy talkin out of his ass...the "talentless waste" is in the top 10 (or at least has been) for a while. "humiliated federer so bad and so often he had to cry like kid that goy his toy stolen in frtonf of billion ppl watchin all over the world"?? 1. Federer only cried once, and I bet you'd cry too if you tried so hard to get a championship and lost in the last match 2. he didn't HUMILIATE Federer. and what does karma have to do with anything? it's just skill.
