I have watched many of Hitchins's vids. And it astounds me how he is able with such knowledge at his disposal to keep quiet and wait for his turn to speak, when u know he is able to articulate with stunning precision a better explanation than most. I'm so glad he's become media savvy.
This woman . . . is useless. Repeatedly, the men just humor her . . . until she shuts up . . . and the conversation can continue intelligently again. Sheeeesh.
@hpd929 -- No kidding? Just what happens when you think you're educated . . . with fancy credentials and institutional affiliations . . . living in your own little self-deluded, self-serving academic world.
Then . . . you come across an "amateur" like Hitchens who actually thinks about things for the LOVE of them . . . and you get the uncomfortable insight that your life, such as you've known it, has been a complete waste.
I would love to dig up Cuno's ancestors' funerary objects and headstones and distribute them worldwide. I would also claim he's not really a descendant of these peoples due to him being an American considering he doesn't speak the ancient teutonic langauge.
@rherrick123 Yes. Hitchens thought there was WMD's in Iraq. He understands nothing about bio chem weapons systems, and their constituent parts, manufacture and storage.
@rherrick123 Just how to love his liver I suppose. I've heard that he became American because of our freedoms,.. and the whisky that comes with them. Gotta love the Hitch.
In the 19th century The Albanian pasha Mohammed Ali wanted to break up the pyramids and use it as a quarry ,and it took the British and the French to disuade him
1) where it belongs. If its possible to view the object in its original or near original state then that is preferable.
2) exposure. Wherever it can be most appreciated is best.
What i mean is that things like paintings in my view don't bother me if they are in a gallery. But the idea of replicating Stonehenge somewhere, or moving it, would i think take something from it. I think it is important to preserve an items context if possible, not just the object.
The marbles belong to to the PARTHENON and no body else. They should be returned to their home, whether it is Greece or Mars, it does not mater. Restoration of the Parthenon would be an amazing thing.
Exactly, I mean those culturally backward fucks destroyed statues carved around 500 AD in the face of a mountainside. They were a magnificent testament to human culture and those cunts destroyed them like it was playtime in a sandbox.
How is it "racist" (excuse me, "racialist") to use genetic descent to determine inheritance?
And if genetics isn't a just method to determine ownership (I agree, probably not), why the hell is the incident of location of birth a just method?
"what if they can't/won't" is also a legitimate concern. Remember the Buddhist statues destroyed in Afghanistan? Greece is safe, but not a lot of other locations with nutty Muslim terrorists.
Would James support a special visa program that would allow regular, working/middle class, Turks, Greeks and Egyptians the ability to enjoy and experience these treasures at the Louvre or in London?
I don't care about art, but I will watch anything Hitchens has two cents to talk about.

She doesn't look too happy for the 10 seconds after 6:10, I'd say.

Is there actually anything that Christopher Hitchens doesn't know?
rherrick123 2 years ago 17
He doesn't know that Champollion was not a Napoleonic officer and not the discoverer of the Rossetta Stone, for one thing.

@rherrick123 So far I've only caught him on two minor mistakes, one regarding Napoleon and the other regarding Italian fascism, both mere semantics.

Apart from that I cant think of a thing.

IMO there are 2 main things.

2) exposure. Wherever it can be most appreciated is best.
