  • Of course, it's the fish that make this art.

  • @archie0000 I hope I'm reading your message correctly, I'll admit that eating fish makes me fart as well.

  • I see I have to dig out my vinyls, although this version is very experimental...Christina and the others are still around and have made some very intersting stuff... Yes, it is the last two minutes which are very nice...

  • Saw them at Cincinnati Gardems years ago with Santana.Outstanding.

  • Is that Stewart Copeland on drums?

  • Saw them Albert Hall,Nottingham supporting Mott the Hoople in 1971 , blew Mott off the stage. Excellent!!!

  • anyone know what year this was and what kind of synth that is?

  • I saw Curved Air at Newcastle City Hall, and I can't remember when :)

  • My dad manages this band :)

  • Is the violinist Kiminsky?

  • @kramyelir The violin player is called Daryl Way, and it's Kaminski not Kiminsky

  • @kramyelir I owe you another 'R' because it's Darryl not Daryl !

  • weird, I watched this for the first time a month ago and I hated it, watching it again now I love it, strange how this type of music always does that to you

  • 何度見ても素晴らしいですね^^。

  • going to see them tomorrow night in Hertford, cant wait

  • Bass player here is Kirby Gregory, the guy in the Bak Street Luv Video is Ian Eyre.

  • Pure noise ! Awesome.

  • Brilliant! I saw them in (I think) '72 at Leeds Uni (or was it Poly.) Sorry that's vague, but I was out of my brains for much of that period. I do remember though that they were there on the same evening as Lou Reed.

  • SwanSongRecords, thanks for information. So I was mistaken, 'Nobody's fault but mine...' ;-)

  • Indeed, genius... Could Led Zeppelin (especially Jimmy Page) be influenced by this song (Dazed and Confused?). Awesome, I really can't find other words for it...

  • @fredgonn No, because dazed and confused came first.

  • GENIUS................................END OF !

  • This post is a true gem!

Curved Air is one the most underrated progressive bands form the early 70's. Darryl Way leaves Jerry Goodman (Flock) and Jean-Luc Ponty way behind.

  • Okay... okay.... okay...

    What is this video from?

  • Jean-Luc Ponty is a faggot comparing to this...

  • Music sets us free.

I bet if I had an analogue synth I could make fish swim....and more.

  • Music sets us free.

  • WOW really nice footage of the vcs3 in action !

  • Anyone recall Darryl Way's Wolf. I met Curved Air on their US tour and found him to be a very congenial fellow. I still have a photo of him holding his plexiglass violin in front of his face which made it look like it formed his skull. Sooo cool.

The musicianship was superb. They were opening for Supertramp I believe. great show.

  • It's no wonder people say the devil plays the violin. The guy in the beginning looked like he was possesed by the very instrument himself. Just amazing!

  • Progressive Rock Royalty!

  • Now is this the same bassist we see in the Backstreet Luv video? That other guy wasn't wearing glasses.

  • Reminds me of my youth, watched them live many times, very underated prog rock band

  • I bought the album when it came out, and I can still remember the first time I heard this song. Its the last track on side 1, at the very end of the track it speeds up to a frenzy until the needle slides toward the center making a wild sound. It had us all on the floor in tears! BTW the song is called Ultra-Vivaldi.

  • This is the level of brilliance to which every musician should aspire. There isn't much to compare to this.

  • There's a clue in the title "Curved Air - Vivaldi" .. the artists are Curved Air.... This is mega mega cool

  • not everyone's cup of tea no doubt - but I'm in the 'brilliant' camp - thanks for posting

  • they called themselves after terry riley´s theme A RAINBOW IN CURVED AIR

  • Ingeniously creative!!

  • increible1!!!!

  • Darryl Way was chosen genious violin musician in his childhood. Sonja's voice is incredible. if i am not wrong all members were educated in classical music

  • Ah, Sonja ......

  • I saw Curved Air at the Casino in Bolton 1972 (?)

    They got 5 Encores!!!!!!

The audience wouldn't let them go so Daryl Way smashed his violin bow in two, over the microphone and then it was like......well we can't come on for a 6th encore!!!!!

    Brilliant.

Those were the days.........before plastic music! :)

  • I saw Curved Air at the Kursaal in Southend-on-Sea in Essex during 1972 and they were superb, however, I couldn't get close to the stage. 'Family' appeared around that time, alas, I wasn't able to see them.

I am hoping someone will upload 'Bright Summers Day '68', if not I will have a go!

  • reminds me of Nigel Kennedy before he got a haircut and a new accent

  • Kinda reminds me of the '72-'74 lineup of King Crimson. I like it!

  • It was just called either Vivaldi, when it was a pure solo, or Vivaldi With Cannons when the band joined in at the end.

  • I believe it has notes from Partita in D minor for solo violin (BWV 1004) by Johann Sebastian Bach

  • this band later morphed into Roxy Music

  • @j6460887 ...Errr no they didn't...Roxy Music were up and running independantly of Curved Air...some ex- members of Curved Air may have been in Roxy Music at several points in time, but Curved Air carried on long after Roxy were formed, and Sonja wenty on in her own right after Air folded in Escape and as a solo artist...Air Conditioning is still an awesome album from 1970, and this is only a small slice of 'Vivaldi' from that album...I saw them supporting Sabbath in 1970!

  • !!great end!!!

  • This takes me back to the Seventies loved Sonja and I have also just found out they are back on the road magic

  • Vivaldi must have been like... "screw all these 18th century hacks, I'm fucking inventing hardcore."

  • genius pure genius

thank you so much for this

  • 6:29 I love it *_*

  • This goes to show you that anybody who became someone important like Eddie Jobson started in the late 60's.

  • MAGNIFICENT OR WHAT

  • Saw them live at the old Imperial Ballroom in Nelson, Lancashire. I think this one's called Vivaldi (with cannons). It's from the album Air Conditioning

  • I had a crush on sonya back in the 70's when I was 12

  • @nikons So did I - she was absolutely awesome!

  • me partio el cerebelo en 100000 pieces :O:O jejeje

  • I saw them open for ELP at University of Georgia, Thanksgiving, 1971. A transcendent moment of my life.

  • Yup that's Stewart Copeland on drums I'd recognize his style anywhere.

  • Saw these several times in the 70s, but had forgotten them...........how could I?

  • Is that Stuart Copeland on drums?

  • In the 70's you could do anything

  • OMG - How have I never heard of this band before? AMAZING! Made my day.

  • The quite "freaking awesome" last 2 minutes are so amazing, but they're not (on the album) part of the song Vivaldi... anyone know the name of the last vocal segment?

  • Like a Vivaldi acid trip...incredible!

  • That was fucking amazing.

  • daryl way - miles better than uli jon roth, malmsteen, vai and all the other pretentious neo-classical posers. this man is truly talented and curved air were so much better than the likes of king crimson (and still are) Long may he reign.

  • @54donny

    You`re sooooo Right !

  • Is that Daryl Way on fiddle? Saw him with his band Wolf later.

  • Any keyboardists here who can tell me about that synth? I played in a band in the late 70's and one of the guys had one of those. When he came to audition I remember wondering what in the world he had in that wooden box ;) He was very good. Also great on guitar and flute as well.

  • jmb92555.

An educated guess says it will be a Moog Synthesizer as they pioneered synths modules like that around this era. Kieth Emerson (ELP) was one of the first to use them on stage too. Listen to ELP 'Lucky man' (on here). When we first heard that track back then it blew us all away (and still does).

  • @jmb92555 EMS - VCS3

  • @34xati

I think that's it. Ken is that you? Just kidding ;) The guy was really good on keyboards, guitar, and flute. Had a good voice and wrote decent tunes too. And always got the best girls lol. I would have hated him but he was one of the nicest and most intelligent people I ever met. Thanks to you and

maccafan10. The first synth I ever heard was on The Turtles "You Showed Me". The first I really noticed was Lucky Man. This is a very interesting band that somehow I missed out on til now.

  • I believe it may be a VCS3

  • @jmb92555

that is actually a custom made ems synthi brian eno klaus schulze and many other famous sound designers have used them, the store models looked like briefcases VER cool synths

  • The synth looks like an Electronic Music Studios VCS3. Check out EMS VCS3 page on the Vintage Synth Explorer web site

  • air conditioning is in my top ten feve lps,the version of vivaldi on that lp is great.

  • Try to grasp the album 'Phantasmagoria' , its is very good.

  • Fusso, as you say, those last 2 minutes ARE freaking awesome. Thanks for sharing a great video.

  • Curved Air is one of many bands I had heard of, and among so many more gems yet uncovered... : )

This is an audio treat, good for my nerves!

  • Great band, good violinist. At this time, another band used the electronic violin: The Flock. But I prefere Curved Air,and I have the LP in which this little masterpiece is registered .

  • they are great! It is new for me, i never saw them before.

  • so Jimmy.... this is how it is done...

  • love it...also try string driven thing "heartfeeder" for a similar buzzzzz

  • ACID

  • Great stuff! This'll drive the wankers from the room any day of the week!

Sonja was, in her way, Britain's Grace Slick.

    wordofgord

  • Nice drum sound

  • Is the visual at the end a tribute the Yes?

  • now THIS needs a Shreds treatment ... or maybe it IS already Shreds treated? :)

  • Am i right in saying that this was one of the first electric violins? anyway, absolutely fantastic without the vocals and with cannons, thanks for putting it on.

  • incredulously irreconcilably incredible

  • Came looking for Jobson, but Way is amazing! Nice video. Thx for posting

  • i was fortunalet to see him when he had the band Wolf in the 70,s. at SUnderland Locarno none the less.

  • Absolutely AWESOME

  • i'm seeing them next week at the stables ,its say's curved air reunited i hope itsoriginal line up

  • yeah, that was above and beyond the normal paramenters of the usual generated blurp. Fanitastic. 5 of my stars go unto you kind one. Peace and obscurity all day long. Thankyou, Thankyou. Have a good day jolly one.

  • Awesome!!

  • What a jolly tune!

  • I prefer the rather more finnesed version by Sky.

  • This is the original band, with the writer playing violin, playing live what is probably their definitive version of this song...it does differ from the studio version, as available on Air Conditioning...but hell, this IS the best version. I'm sorry but the 'cultured' version is too watered down and sanitised for a conservative pop audience.

  • Psst... the "writer" has been dead for over 250 years.

  • Psst ... the original inspiration is dead and has been for over 250 years. The writer/composer in this case is Darryl Way, he who play the violin in this performance. I do not deny that he was very heavily 'inspired' by Vivaldi!

  • nul a chié !

  • Breathtaking music!!! superb!!

  • wow, i want some lsd XD

  • And at 2:20 the awesome electronics kick in.

  • what is the name of this song??

    sorry but...i dont know

  • is just a very "free jazz" improvisation of Vivaldi

  • No es "free jazz" es Rock Progresivo

  • @spcapmcmo It's called Vivaldi bozo

  • Holy shit yeah the drums and violin are amazing during those final two minutes!

  • "99 perfectly relaxing songs" for 99 cents on amazon today... with vivaldi :)

  • The last two mins were awesome? the whole thing is amazing.

    Peace and Success

  • Great Experiemntal prog. The best is Power Electronics part.Great band of the 70's

  • that was bad ass

  • BREATHTAKING

  • First time I saw this video, it really really AMAZE ME! definitely now I understand more than ever when old rockers says that there are a lot better stuff in older bands. 70s prog rock is so amazing!

  • A Musical Orgasm!

  • awesome stuff maat, fukking great!!!

  • They don't make 'em like that these days.

  • DEVIL INSIDE!!!!!

  • This is like a Vivaldi on drugs!!! ...excellent result...the mix of styles is incredible...the psychedelic trip is evident...lots of creativity! Thanx for posting!

  • Fantastic.

  • I fucking adore Vivaldi, and their take on it, man, goosebumps. This IS better than sex!! *sighs happily* I need a cigarette after listening to that. LOL.

  • THIS IS MUSIC!!!! Awsome...

  • (Try Emerson Lake and Palmers... "Take a Pebble".)

A think just a thing about this vídeo:

  • I agree with you!!

  • Sorry, but this plus sex is totally unbeatable! hehe

  • This is TRUE Acid! Great band and song!

  • actually pink floyd are still the best but this band could've been number one.

  • and here i am thinking the mars volta are having the most fun with their electronics and pink floyd were the best of their time... i thought wrong my friends. i thought wrong.

  • far out

  • just a fucking row really ain't it?They don't have to do this they're really rather good when they want to be

  • amazing !!!!good to see again.thanx for posting

  • just heard they are gigging in Holmfirth Oct 08. Unbelievable - been waiting 30yrs to see them again-Woolfie

  • what did watto 10000 writes: "saw them last nicht .."does this band really exists? that's fine!

I've heard themat first when I was hitch-hiking in Münster-Westfalen-Germany. A nice freak in his old car let me in and drive me tomy little hometown. So idyllic (is this the word? -I dont know). When we drove along the road he plays CURVED AIR on tape, and this sound blows my ears. How can such hippies make such noise?

    Fantastic!

  • Saw them in Caerphilly, early 70's. Now revisiting they sound phenomenal. Does the word "experimental"still exist?

  • missing "phantasmagoria"

  • Saw them last night in Malborough!! Darryl Still has it!!!! absolutely awesome!!!!

  • Seen Curved Air 5 times live now (mainly early 70s). Just seen them tonight at Brighton Concorde 2.

    Verdict:

Darryl - phenomenal (to be expected).

Sonja - Such control over the audience as ever. I think her live voice is better now than in the 70s personally. Doesn't shout so much ! Always great on stage.

Florian - Hero of the night. Curved Air's drummer period !!! Totally underated.

Francis - Sorely missed. Darryl had to do his parts on keyboard.

    Knockout support act (Whimwise)

  • i saw them at kiel in st. louise w/ procal harum and jethro tull!

    it was great

  • super,super,super!!!!!!

  • i haven´t heard this band before ´t´s reaaly good. excellent video.

  • great vid--sony's brother was my maths teacher--a weird one there--also saw them as a support band to wishbone ash

the LP ive lost-the pisture one--it was super grapgics for the time --wish i still had it--enen just to look at

  • This has got to be Eddie Jobsen, who went on to Roxy Music. Any confirmation

  • Violin by Darryl Way.

  • Curved Air, cool man, cool.

Saw them at Wigan ABC in May 1972 during their massive British tour.

Darryl Way outstanding. They did three encores; we wouldn't let them leave.

    Another age man, another age...

  • yer quite right mate, saw them in brighton during that tour superb

  • Yep, me too at the Bournemouth Winter Gardens - where are the 70s when you need them??

  • pure prog, like the driven snow, can t wait to see them live again please get it together

  • it is from 1972 TV -DVD Masters from the vaults serie

  • Does anybody knows the exact date of this performance? thnx!

  • Thanks for this. You brought tears to my eyes with this one. I used to go to Curved Air concerts. Where have all those years gone, eh?

  • last 2 minutes reminds me of Sky, which francis Monkman later joined

  • Great!! Forgot it and found it now again. Brings me back to my younger days!

  • I was luckey enough to be at the launch of this group, and have one of the original picture disks of Curved Air. The way to enjoy this is ti rip newpaper in time to it. Yeeeea!

  • Cool!

  • Fantastic!! makes you wake up to the shit we have had since.. Golden Age.. real spirt of nature ..
