That Strider is a gorgeous knife, but I don't think there's any way I would ever pay that much for one. Perhaps that will change in time, when I have larger piles of money lying around my house.
@Spectre426 Yeah, $400+ is a crazy amount to pay for a knife when sub $100 production knives will work and last just as well... Something about the knife collecting sickness though, we tend to lust for better, stronger, more unique knives... My Emerson custom CQC-6 was $1425!! That is insane!! But I don't regret it, it's like expensive watches, glasses, or jewelry...
@macjmillsx It IS a sickness dude. I so don't want to buy another knife, but I SO do. WTF is wrong with me? I'm all drooling over knives I have absolutely no business buying.
@macjmillsx i know u wrote this a long time ago. but tbh the warranty you get from strider makes it worth it and i rly think u know that so thats not what i where about on this comment.. its a sickness cuz u can buy 2$ knives and beat them to hell and when they break u get a new one. (atleast at my work) but i rather use my SnG cuz i know it will hold up for the beating and if it ever breaks i KNOW tStrider will take care of me! sweet emrson btw! and ty for a great insight of the knives!
To me one is an F-16 and the other an A-10 Thunderbolt. Different plane, different job both effective. I have an SFM myself and it is a workhorse. Maybe one day I'll cruise around in a Sebbie.
Why the hell do people compare the two at all? One is classy and limited in function, one is so heavy duty looking that it's almost ugly, but it's so versatile. Two completely different worlds. Like comparing a sports car to a pickup truck. One is good for one thing and bad for the what the other's for. Just be content!
@ShutUpJohnson I think the price is a big part of the reason these two get compared... If you had $400 and were crazy enough to spend that much on a knife, it's not uncommon to debate which knife to spend that much on... I totally agree with you.. like comparing a Mercedes with a Hummer, both great but both very different IMHO
Striders maybe quality, but they're ugly as hell. And for the price of these knives, I probably would never carry them. I would rather buy a couple Benchmade Griptilians and a couple of Spyderco Enduras and Natives. Love the Sebenza but not the price. For me I would rather have quantity than (ultimate)quality. Same goes for pussy!
It's like comparing a Hummer and a Corvette I guess. The SNG is like the Hummer, built rugged and tough like a workhorse. The Sebenza is like the sports car, a finely tuned and detailed piece of worksmanship. I'd say get both and avoid the stress. Great review sir! 5/5
striders are slick looking but the ones I have handled are kinda sloppy. Not only that but you lose a lot of cutting edge when comparing an sng to a large sebenza.
They are not for everyone, but they are tough, capable, no nonsense tools that will eat anything you throw at em' and just smile... and they guys standing behind them are pure class!
I prefer the SNG, but the Sebenza is probably more practical. Just something about the build of the SNG that is awesome. It is pronounced [coil]. good vid
The SnG is tough as nails, and after the service and turnaround I received from Strider when I sent my SnG in for a touch up, I can honestly say they have the best warranty in the biz!!
Ive had $350 + knives but Ive had such a hard time making myself use them so what did i do? I downgraded to a $150 knife. I still couldnt get myself to use it and now Im down to using a $50 kershaw knife that Ill know Ill use and not be afraid to sharpen.
That being said I should would love to have a SNG!!
TheNewnan3 i would highly recommend that you use at least one of your better knives as a regular use knife. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE. Just abuse it mate, it's liberating, I'm not saying do this with all your knives just one top shelf blade.
That Strider is quite possibly the ugliest knife I've ever seen; I'm sure it get's the job done though. I'm definitly gonna get a Sebenza though. Those things are sweet, almost as nice as a Benchmade 940.
I used to be repulsed by Striders, but then something about them just got ahold of me, I started to think they actually looked cool, then once I used one I was hooked!
The warranty is great! If you break it they will make it right. If you disassemble or pimp your knife though they will charge you for the repair... I recently sent my SnG in for a touch up and it was returned in less than a week and I though they just sent me a brand new knife!! I barely recognized it!! Awesome service and turnaround!
I so agree about the weight issue I only have one strider and it feels so much lighter, I am going to put the make model and put it on a postal scale today. Good call! I am subscribing. BTW: You sound like your getting over a cold like me, man this stinks!
I think I prefer the SnG. The Sebenza is an awesome knife, but I just prefer the tough as nails beat the crap out of it SnG. The Sebenza could handle it, but it looks so pretty you I don't wanna use it like I would the SnG.
these kinds of reviews help me waste less time for my purchases and other things i could be doing instead of trying to gather all the information i can get for my decision. thanks so much, man. keep up the good work!
The Benchmade 32 Morpho was my first experience with G10 and I loved the feel of that knife. G10 is an awesome handle material... never too cold and always grippy, gotta love it!
I doubt it, the lanyard is very light. I think the balance of the knife and the fact that it is an all metal handle makes it feel heavy in the hand... IMHO Striders are better balanced blade to hilt.
I really want all three so bad but they are ridiculously expensive but when i can swing it im afraid i will have to get them i want the smf and the sng and the sebenza i think if you truly like collecting nice knives these are a staple of any good collection
both knives are great

@newcoyote Dude!! I absolutely LOVE that analogy! One is razor sharp deadly precision, the other is pure ugly badass down and dirty destruction!!
That being said, I worked on F-15's when I was enlisted! ; )

striders and sebenzas are all great knives
but ppl should mention extrema ratio knives, best of both worlds heavy duty and beautiful.

It's tough to use such an expensive knife hard, but Striders take what you can dish and they actually look good with some use.

I take back all that I said earlier bc now Im carrying a micarta small sebenza........
TheNewnan3 2 years ago
nice. what do you think of it?
THEDROPPEDSOCK 2 years ago
Well it was pricey. The opening/closing is super smooth and the knife is fairly light. I wish there was a size between the large and small.
Of all the expensive knives Ive had I like it the most. Its nice to handle but flies under the radar compared to the automatics I had.

Good job with the review.
First I'dd get the Strider, looks more manly.
Fit and finish is not important to me as long as I use the knife and not just look at it, like most "knife guys" do.
You should se my mini Skirmish, looks like it has been to war:)
BTW, I carry also Bradley Alias, similar to Sebenza.
Take care bro.
