this stinks. So very very un-musical. I bought a Thomas Lang video. Learned somethings off it. But after awhile I couldn't watch it any more. It was like watching a flamboyant special effects flick with lotsa car chases and things blowing up. After awhile, I just wanted to change the channel.

There are few things less appealing than two very technical drummers trying to solo at the exact same time.

There are so many drum shedding videos right on you tube that demonstrate proper shedding - i.e. trading 4's , 8's, whatever, so that you can actually hear whats going on, and it doesn't sound like someone falling down a really long staircase with their drums.

I don't man, Pridgen gives me a headache. He's a great technician but never truly musical. Check out Papa Jo Jones to see a truly expressive and musical drummer.

I'm sure jazz drummers respect both Weckl and Lang - diff. genres/styles, etc. more important, just cos you have insane chops doesn't mean you can't have taste... a drum clinic is going to be different than an r n' b session, and I'm quite sure that Lang and Weckl have done both. don't assume that you're chopsmeister general in a clinic, that blowing all day w/o taste is all that you can do.

thomas lang is a great technician. no musicality. on the contrary, listen to mushanga by toto. listen to late in the evening and 50 ways to leave your lover. there are a lot of technique in those songs. check them out.

Thomas Lang definitely pulled it off in the end, but it definitely seemed like he was off. Pridgen was definitely better for the most part and I like the wild animal energy he gives off while playing. Fucking sick to watch. Lang should have gone acoustic as well and not electric.

the guy who says he talked to Lang after the performance - it SOUNDS like things went wrong sound-wise, and they had to improvise, turning it into a REAL-ish kinda battle

now I am just getting into Mars Volta and Pridgen is seriously a monster, and he wrecked it after the stick incident

but that said, Lang, doing the stick tricks after that was kinda funny, I thought..  not a dig, but...

Lang is undoubtably a great drummer, but Pridgen has a looseness (maybe too loose with the stick drop) about him that just cant be taught, simply freekin amazing. But... im not a drummer so, its just preference.
