@ohndray hey mate, i have no memory of that comment above. guess one of my friends decided to do somekind of youtube-rape, anyway i DID find the video helpful.
There's a "magic wand" tool i use. It works best if you have a green or blue screen/background behind the subject. This is the easiest way to have a blank background.
The other way around it is to carefully erase the background. There are many ways to do this... many many ways.
I suggest you just practice! I definitely didn't get all of this right away... learn what's best for you and have fun with it!
good news... look forward to a GIMP tutorial... I've been messing around with it (the mac version) for a little bit and i feel like i can make something that people can follow. Thanks for your interest!
No such thing as a stupid question! Any photoshop program will do.... I'm using CS2 in the vid. Whatever you can get your hands on will work. try ebay... with caution of course. Good luck!
if you cant find a photoshop program that you like or can afford, check out the program GIMP. Great software and its free. Theres acouple of good tutorials on getting the same effect on that program. Either one will work.
Gimp is great! I've been messing with it for a while and it's a great tool. I'll be doing a vid real soon using it. probably the best image tool for free... well not probably... definitely the best free tool out
last last question(s), so threshold is obviously the way to do the 2 layers, but how would i get it to do 3+ layers (like a black and grey on white, or multiple shades of grey)
well i just got cs2 and it looks a little differenly set up as the way youre using. the principals are the same, im just having a hard time clearing out all the other shit in the background, and the eraser doesnt work like i thought it would...or maybe im doin it wrong
if you're taking pictures of people...like friends...put them in front of a green or blue background. then you can use the magic wand and erase it all at once. Or practice with the tracing tool and pen tool. You'll get it eventually. Not like i learned over night. Good luck!
I've never seen a tut using this technique. Adjusting individual parts of the image using the threshold instead of just adjusting the entire image in one shot.... Very slick! :D
