@SupportHandbook well the origional inspiration behind the song came to guy when he saw a couple recovering from a drug addiction, he said it was amazing how love really could conquer all.
perhaps its a character flaw of mine, but i was into Elbow before their first album came out...and i always consider this my music...so it winds me up when people are into them now ...as i say my fault but im sure most can undersatnd roughly what i mean
the wonderful music of elbow, and others, has woven itself throughout my life in a most beautiful way and I am grateful to those who create something of such value that all people can share.....
I've loved this since I saw them in London in early 2001. Asleep in the back is a brilliant album. I feel jealous of you guys hearing them for the first time because I remember the feeling I got when 'Any day now' started. Amazing song from an amazing band. I feel proud to be British when I think of bands like Elbow.
I realised that there isn't one song that I don't like by Elbow! On my Ipod, I put artists up, click Elbow, then shuffle and thats it for the day! They are so incredible! I hope they never stop creating this magical music! xx
song is about loving someone and standing beside that person no matter what... even when you're in deep shit
video imo is about a man, who loses everything and still has someone completely attached to him, together in his grief and the guy below can't even reach a glimpse of such a love
@vikicoetsee the song was about ,according to the singer ,was when he was in a bar in Manchester and he noticed the love and care a couple withdrawing from drugs had for each other, He said it was beautiful to see that love can conquer at the most terrible times in ones life.
Holy crap! i just found out if you pause it 0:00 and press the up and left arrows at the same time, then tap them both again, you get a game of snake on the video! sorry to spam the comments a bit, it was just taking ages to load...
Yeah.. definitely seems to be some Floyd influence in there. I just discovered this band a few months ago and I'm blown away. The American music scene is dull compared to the bands that the Brits are turning out over the last 5 years or so.
@Vetrlz07 I don't know if that's entirely fair. There are some great bands in North America currently. They just don't get media attention the way some crowd favorites do.
But yes, as a recent Elbow convert, I have to agree they are powerful and unique.
sorry for asking again, but what is the name of the director... cause actually i work in a production house and there is a lebanese director pretending that he directed this music video and he put it in his showreel... so i just want to be sure if its true or not... thank u
@teekey28 it was directed by an english threesome called two big eyes. i know this because i work with two of them now at a company they started called bigballs films..
i dont get it

It's about heroin. "The sunward flight begins..." "I'm proud to be the one you hold when the shakes begin..."
There were also a lot of people on the telegraph poles at the end. Don't know what that means, though... Very powerful and emotional song

There are few artists that so eloquently create musical atmospheres such as Elbow.
The interwoven artistry of lyric, the instrumental sonic bed and timbre of Guy's voice near a perfection rarely achieved in modern music.
To my ear it is as perfect as much of Pink Floyd's work. Truly impeccable.
