There are youngsters like us all around digging this music. Something many people don't know or see often. At any rate and age, this is a beautiful song. And yea, Music like this just isn't made anymore.
@alayduhh - that's not true. listen to bon iver. mumford and sons. the fleet foxes. I'm tired of all this bashing of our generation, we are doing just fine. CSN wasn't in the central mainstream when they were around either. That's always how these things go, and every era has had its good and bad.
I'm 64 years old, have sung in men's glee club, opera workshop, and episcopal choir (for money), played cornet and French Horn, and have yet to find a better way to have fun and let it all out than sing along with CSN. It warms an Old Farts Heart to know that someone 14 years old appreciates CSN. OK, so how about Pink Floyd? Yes? Tell me more!
Why can't people sing like this anymore these harmonies are so tight and amazing. I'm only 14 and I appreciate this music. I can't believe my friends don't know these guys. They call themselves singers. This song gives me such a feeling...
@mudshadowmoon Comments like yours, at age 14, finally give me some hope for the future of music. It's really refreshing to hear that there are some in the younger generation who appreciate what good music is all about, rather than mindless rapping and/or screaming the same 5 words repeatedly over an electronic dance beat.

@mlmj1994 I think it means that someone else has entered the relationship as before they are 2 alone so maybe on the rocks, then they are for each other so perhaps he realizes that he's lost her & that she's happy with this other man & won't return to him

Ok nice choice, and is always hard saying "the best ever" ok among the top three and mostly folk Rock history thats more close to it, love Simon and Garfunkel also cool and yes Crosby and Nash were great as a duo too, never saw the as such but with CSN lots of times, once Stills was mad with C&N and he was on tour with Flo and Eddie lol, remember them? nothing against them but not nearly C& N. thank you
@longlostgus I saw Crosby and Nash as a duo back in 1993 (?), opening up for Jackson Browne. As a duo, they were very good, but it's always better with Stephen Stills helping out. It just gives them extra depth as a trio. But it's hard to argue about how great Simon and Garfunkel were at harmonizing!
Opening? ok, but they've always been the main card (I believe U : ) and of course many times better with the great Stills amazing musician - my first concert ever- Stills & Manassas great.
Totally agreed there, CSN is best.
Reg. Simon and Garfunkel (with all due respect) they don't get close to CSN harmonies wise, besides they'r only two and I still think Crosby & Nash's (plus Stills and then sometimes Young : ) are among the best Rock and/or folk rock vocals in Rock (Hist. : )
@longlostgus Yes, believe it or not they were the opening act. I guess without Stills, promoters must've thought they wouldn't draw as much as Jackson Browne. Personally, I think either act would've done just fine as headliners.
I certainly wasn't saying Simon & Garfunkel were better than CSN (+/- Stills), I was just noting how good S&G were at harmonizing. But CSN (+/-) will always be my favorite!
Thank you : ) Yes you'r right reg C & N not drawing much attention without Stills but I remember they did at one point, or maybe was Crosby's rebounding period from a liver transplant and some jail time, remember? But luckily he made it through, and i get your point reg S&G, they were good but split too soon and to be honest I wasn't a fan (but I do like their songs) and yes of course CSN rules thats were this nice three or four part conversation started, thanks and looking forward

If it wasn't for the Monkees and Stephen Stills music I do not believe I would have withstood the rigours of a chidren's home for seven years They kept me sane enough to endure it all
I could listen to it all day, thank you. More please. My Father in Law is/was a hippie. He loves this music and loves that I love it. I am from Pittsburgh and Italian also. What you should do is put a few lines of what you remember daily, would help you to remember and it would give us all an interesting storyline to follow. I imagine interracial couples were rare then, or at least in the public eye. I don't know why, but I am interested.
@Steelerbradd~the stories of those times will vary from person to person. my boyfriend was Italian, making us an interracial couple, both with hair past our shoulders. the police, blacks and whites harassed us. but that's just Philly for you. The people with vision learned and applied communal living and growing their own food on purchased land. i found a place to be but it always had a temporary feel to it.
@steelerbrad~i will be 60 years next month and my memories of those days are beginning to blur. i was in Philly PA. It was dangerous to be a "hippie". Drugs flowed like candy corn on Halloween,Free Love was a reality and the police were out to get us. The music was fantastic.

I might be interested in getting this 1991 box set. Their latest greatest hits release has a diffferent version of this particular song and this one is better. It also doesn't even include "Woodstock!"

@LelouchLamperouge019 This video is the re-recorded version for their 1991 box set release. The original version, which is acoustic, is on their self-titled first album, released in 1969.
@centuryrox 42 years ago already huh? Frightening....We'll be sounding like our parents did when...well when they sounded like parents if you know what I mean..nice channel you have here
This was one of my Dad favorite group. My dad passed away 4 weeks ago and everytime I hear this I am remind of him......may he rest in peace....love you dad
@suudsuz This is Crosby, Stills, and Nash "Helplessly Hoping." You could've figured that out if you'd looked at the title. If you're twelve, I think you should probably educate yourself. Look up "I am the Walrus" "Hey Jude" "Stairway to Heaven" "The Rain Song" "Sympathy for the Devil" "Brown Sugar" "Crazy Train" and "Bark at the Moon." You'll be thankful to learn your basic 60's-70's Rock and Roll and Heavy Metal.
Kid, B****r deserves to have gasoline injected into its lungs, its legs dipped into sulfuric acid up to the knees and have fire ants placed under its eyelids. It' a horrible abomination and there is nothing - absolutely NOTHING - good about ANYTHING that it does. It is a horrible disgrace to anything you could call music and should be left to get hooked on cocaine and die under a bridge somewhere. It's just a huge useless pile of redundant protoplasm. Listen to some REAL music, why don't you?
@forglegorktheork Im sorry, is it not completely obvious that im impersonating a mainstream shitfaced "music" fan? I <3 trolling butthurt kids like you anyhow, but this kind of music is what I listen to all the time, can't stand new shit.
im 13 and me and my friend played this at a talent show we didnt get through unfortunately the judges seemed to favour dont stop believing which really made me angry that no one likes talent any more oh well i do
I do so love this song! I grew up on CSN!! My dad's favorite band and he would play it loud on our backporch speakers as I played outside taking in these awesome lyrics! So many great songs from this band!! This takes me back to a lifetime past filled with happiness and innocense!! How i miss those days and those times. They may be gone but never forgotten. I will always hold those special memories of my dad and this music in my heart forever!! Missing the best days!! RIP Pop <3
So can anyone confirm if its "Trips" on the pedal steel? I heard it was but I cant find anything. My favorite version of the song because of the pedal steel and their voices are softer... more passion in this version.
A beautiful song from the great Crosby, Stills and Nash. We are one person, they are two alone, they are three together, they are for each other. What a great message! Just love em. And they are great in concert! Saw them 3 times. My mother went to on with us, she loved them, too. And when they were done, she loved all the people holding up their lighters! Can't do that anymore! And we stashed everything in her purse, knowing they wouldn't look in some old lady's purse!
@brenzaboom So glad to see young people getting into the great talent that is CSN! Their music truly lives on, even after 40+ years!
Word of warning though: The strength of CSN comes through in their harmonies and music, not through some flashy stage show. I say this because many of today's "artists" cover up their lack of talent by using gimmicky stage shows. CSN doesn't, and doesn't need to do this. Just sit back and enjoy the music, as I'm sure you will.
that's not true at all! some might hide behind their fancy pyrotechnics, but for a lot of metal and rock bands, they do it to give all their fans an overwhelming experience.
sure thing, that it's nice to go to a concert to listen to the music, but you also need something to look at, fireworks pyrotechnics and colors.
And yeah, if it's quiet and calming songs like Helplessly Hoping there is no need for anything else than the tones of the music and sounds of the lyrics.
@centuryrox wow so...it was underly amazing...Stephen is still amazing at guitar, David is still an Amazing singer, and Graham bring so much charisma to the stage....it was amazing....they played Behind Blue Eyes for a surprise and it was the best version i've heard of it
@brenzaboom fucking a, what does it matter what age you are? all i read is "im only xx and i love x, everyone my age likes shit but im just xx and i know what true good music is, god damnit if i read another comment saying how young i am, yet i know what good music is im going to kill myself
@420crazydiamonds Daaamn, dont hold back on killing yourself now, we could use less douche bags like you in the world. Why does this seem to hurt you so much?
I was 18 years old, just outta HS. Had to leave home and live in a funky apartment totally inhabited by hippies. We had a ball. My boyfriend came over with this album and we played it forever. Youth and good music can get you through some rough times! The album and my youth are long gone but so cool to have technology help to bring it all back home!
Well, we had our moments with the boys in blue but the good times stand out the most! I would like to perform this song(vocals/guitar). It is so pretty~ Happy New Year, love~
@tahuti51 I enjoyed reading your comment. Why don't you tell us all more of what you experienced during those days, I am very curious. I was born right about when this came out, 1972

I don't know why, but I am interested.
steelerbradd 1 year ago 2
@Steelerbradd~the stories of those times will vary from person to person. my boyfriend was Italian, making us an interracial couple, both with hair past our shoulders. the police, blacks and whites harassed us. but that's just Philly for you. The people with vision learned and applied communal living and growing their own food on purchased land. i found a place to be but it always had a temporary feel to it.
tahuti51 1 year ago
@steelerbrad~i will be 60 years next month and my memories of those days are beginning to blur. i was in Philly PA. It was dangerous to be a "hippie". Drugs flowed like candy corn on Halloween,Free Love was a reality and the police were out to get us. The music was fantastic.

@tahuti51 @steelerbradd This song was written about Miss Christine Frika of the GTO's! Joey (Gold Hill) Richards (ex-roommate of Steven Stills) Miss Christine and I (Gary Greenwood) were roommate in Hollywood. Joey was in love with Miss Christine but she was not in love with Joey. I helped Joey write this song about her. Steven wanted to record it. He and Joey worked out a deal for the song without me. So the credits are listed only as Steven Stills & Gold Hill.

One of their more underrated songs to me, I just love the melody. Does anyone know who can harmonize better than CSN?

@steelerbradd Joey Richards and I!

I might be interested in getting this 1991 box set. Their latest greatest hits release has a diffferent version of this particular song and this one is better. It also doesn't even include "Woodstock!"

I'm 15. I love CS&N. Them, the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel are a few of my faves. I wish more people my age liked this kinda stuff.

This is strange. I remember there was a completely acoustic studio version. Does anyone know where to get it?
LelouchLamperouge019 1 year ago 6
@LelouchLamperouge019 This video is the re-recorded version for their 1991 box set release. The original version, which is acoustic, is on their self-titled first album, released in 1969.

Well, beside the wonderful music, your description proves the aphorism of a French (or German???) philosopher, who said:
CHILDHOOD'S A PARADISE WE CANNOT BE EXPELLED FROM.
Sorry for my amateurish translation.
Hope & wish you to carry this basic confidence in your mind - all of your life !

And we stashed everything in her purse, knowing they wouldn't look in some old lady's purse!

brenzaboom 1 year ago 15
@brenzaboom So glad to see young people getting into the great talent that is CSN! Their music truly lives on, even after 40+ years!
Word of warning though: The strength of CSN comes through in their harmonies and music, not through some flashy stage show. I say this because many of today's "artists" cover up their lack of talent by using gimmicky stage shows. CSN doesn't, and doesn't need to do this. Just sit back and enjoy the music, as I'm sure you will.

@centuryrox
that's not true at all! some might hide behind their fancy pyrotechnics, but for a lot of metal and rock bands, they do it to give all their fans an overwhelming experience.
sure thing, that it's nice to go to a concert to listen to the music, but you also need something to look at, fireworks pyrotechnics and colors.
And yeah, if it's quiet and calming songs like Helplessly Hoping there is no need for anything else than the tones of the music and sounds of the lyrics.
Regards Morten

I was 18 years old, just outta HS. Had to leave home and live in a funky apartment totally inhabited by hippies. We had a ball. My boyfriend came over with this album and we played it forever. Youth and good music can get you through some rough times! The album and my youth are long gone but so cool to have technology help to bring it all back home!
