Interesting set of pixs to accompany the music, but you should have put titles to them. Where was this photographed and what are the makes of cars that were shown? The music by Humph is great, so makes the picture tour tolerable.
That Morris Minor van at 4:49 ought to be painted up to read "Humphrey Lyttleton - Purveyor of Blue Chip Filth to the Nation"... that was an ambition of his, to find such a van and paint it thus.
He was also a very funny guy on radio 4 and not only invented the game "Mornington Crescent" but devised some cunning opening moves such as "Humph's Opening" where he went straight to Wardour Street after just three moves by using the market parking regulations. A genius.
I'm so disappointed at his death, id never heard of him before until last night... must have missed the part where he died though... and he seemed a really cool guy and an excellent trumpet player... now to listen to all of his records i suppose ;D RIP
Flook (circa 1965)"Trog" was the pen name of Wally Fawkes of the jazz group Wally Fawkes and the Troglodytes, who drew the strip. Storylines were written by many different people, including the singer and writer George Melly, the comedian Barry Took, the musician Humphrey Lyttelton, and the film critic Barry Norman.
I got out my 1956 version of this on 78, the wind-up gramophone, and spent the weekend listening to this, a few of his others, and some great Satchmo too. Look out for BBC Radio 4 09:00 30th April Tribute to be presented by the brilliant Ken Clarke (MP).
That is exactly what I meant. But whether or not the Beatles copied it I don't know. Most tunes have a similarity to another tune from some place and some time.
I'm not sure. I keep playing and comparing the two and still can't made up my mind. I've added Lady Madona to my favourites if you want to compare them. I must admit I knows nought abaht music lad but I knows what I likes.
If any one has a copy of Humph's earlier version of this please let me know. I wore my 78 copy out years ago.
To me the best bit of the old version was the piano intro. Short on the 78 but when you listened to Humph at the clubs it went on for ages. Great intro.
Does not date. BRILLIANT MUSIC.
Thank you Humph so very much.

At least that what it says on the opening titles. Milford Haven by the way is in Wales.
Next run is on Sunday the 3rd of September 2008. Starts just after 9am and finishes at 4 pm at Tenby. 600 plus cars expected.

thanks - good to hear Humph reworking what he used to introduce as "a medley of the band's hit." Much missed.

He will be sadly missed. Part of my life has gone now. At least we still have his music.
Gabriel will be looking for a job now.

I would like very much to see some of his cartoons from the time he worked for The Daily Mail.
May God Bless his soul

Bad Penny Blues is a trad jazz piece written by Humphrey Lyttelton and recorded with his band in London on April 20, 1956.
It was originally released as Parlophone ER 4184 and became a 'hit record' in Britain at the time.
It was the first British jazz record to get into the Top Twenty, and stayed there for six weeks.

I've got a copy of the '50's hit on 45. I think this is nowhere as good as the original.
Soon as I get a usb turntable, I'll upload it
Hopefully not too long a wait
