freedom of speech does not protect anyone from reprisals. for example, most universities have instituted rules against hate speech by employees. while the coach may be allowed to call a woman or a man a non-gender-specific term like 'asshole', he may not call them dykes, faggots, kikes, wetbacks. niggers, etc. when a coach signs a contract agreeing to certain proscriptions, he is bound by his word. he can then be fired for violation of his contract.

Stanford Coach Jim Harbaugh should clarify what happened, and if he yelled "f****t", then he should publicly apologize to the LGBT community, and his public apology should be watched by as many people that watched this game. If he is a big person, he should also offer a gesture of support to the LGBT community. The LGBT community should also put lots of pressure on him to follow through with the above.
