  • I love this movie!!!!

  • i keep seeing the phrase "superhuman strength" here... is that anything like breaking cinder blocks with bare hands, ect..?

  • except for these backflips 1:40 I really like the fighting style of the blonde guy. Speed, strengh, body movements and Strategy, all in one style, almost perfect. Get the **** out with Kisame, Sasuke, Ichigo or any OP pirate, THIS IS SWORDSMANSHIP!!!

  • THIS is what makes a samurie awsome pure sword skill

  • I showed this scene to my public speaking class for a persuasive speech on animation. Everyone in class, including my proffessor, loved this clip!!

  • i wish they would make this a live action movie that would be awesome

  • Worst....cliffhanger..... ever..... MUST WATCH REST!

  • the ninja scroll of the new millenium

  • the description is right, "no description available"

  • Reading the discussions on whether this is realistic or not. It definitely isn't, but it's a lot more down to earth than the many animes out there, which is very refreshing.

  • epic sword fights, epic music, epic graphics, epic people who are still normal if epically skilled, basically everything you could ever want in an anime. someone needs to post the whole movie online.

  • if there was a zombie invasion id consult them as my mercenary.

  • The soundtrack for this movie was so powerful and emotional. It really was perfect !

  • About supernatural powers people are talking about,well....SPOILER:they are way above what normal human could do in many ways, not to mention crazy drugs some guys use in movie(not this two tho)that make them feel zero pain, continue fighting after being butchered etc(and immortal drug).END SPOILER.Anyway the point is the movie is masterpiece and everyone should watch it.I also recommend(Samurai Champloo,Naruto,Ninja Scrolls, Rurouni Kenshin for fighting animes with good animation)

  • @Mariose123 samurai champloo, ninja scroll and rurouni kenshin hell yea!! but... naruto???

  • Damn there needs to be animes with this kind of epic battles

  • @Flameingsoul9 Try Samurai champloo if you didn't watch it.Old but its close to this style of fighting.

  • @Mariose123 I've seen it

  • does any Koichi Yamadera character ever live to the end of the story? aside from donald duck, i mean.

  • This is what craftsmanship of Japanese animation

  • Of all the martial art movies I've seen, I never thought my favorite one would be an animated movie, which is this one right here!

  • @aquapendulum watch more animes then, you would be so surprised to see how better they are then live action movies(not that those aren't good too)

  • @Mariose123 I have watched my share and that's the least thing I need to be told, thank you very much.

  • one of my favorites great anime!

  • When I watched this, I was like: "WHOOOA!! White guy speaking chinese in a japanese movie!! Cultural Mixing is FUN!!"

  • I listen to the music like 10 times a day

  • Best thing about this: this is a battle that could actually happen.

  • bleach is so lame compare to this!!

  • @classical715 This is a movie, bleach is a weekly show.

  • @IngoGarza There were good shows with proper fighting too. Samurai Champloo for instance. Its just that the typical crowd watching the current shows is like 12-15 years old and they prefer the mystical bs over something like this.

  • I like it. No superhuman strength, no mysterious powers or energy. Just a battle between two swordsman with nothing but their skills and determination.

  • @FuyumiHitsugaya No super human strength... as they proceed to jump over each other fighting, jump 30 feet onto scaffolding below, floati in mid-air, using the force of pushing their blades off of each other to launch themselves 10 feet. Break dancing during the fight.

This isn't how real sword fights work. Or reality. But sure, I understand where you're coming from.

  • @TheIncognitusMe I don't know if this is how swordmanship goes in real life(most probably not), but it seems all the moves presented at least in this scene are 100% doable by a human who is skilled enough and I don't see any "floating in mid-air".

  • @realm087 Not one thing about this sword fight was realistic. In sword fights, you aim for the target, not their sword. How many times did they miss an opportunity to actually kill their opponent instead of hitting their sword? At 1:22, he takes roughly 4 seconds and punches him instead of stabbing him with this sword.

    Realism?

At 1:34, he jumps over his target. At 3:28, he has to be at least 10 feet high...

This is not realistic at all.

  • @TheIncognitusMe Much of the sword fighting in this fight was actually directly copied from Wushu and other styles. What you see is actually very realistic (discounting the acrobatics). The reason he punched at 1:22 is because if he had tried to swing the rotation time would of let his opponent kill him. It was an attempt to stun and disarm. I don't know what kind of sword fights you watch, but in sword play you prioritize disarming the opponent and protecting yourself. Full offense is foolish.

  • @wontgivein I'd like to know what your experience is with sword fighting. Mine is quite minimal, but your explanation that him punching was the most viable option seems kind of weird... considering his sword literally comes within inches of Nanaki as he does his rotation. Then he makes another half-rotation and back-hands him, all while he's stunned.

I'm willing to let that one go, as my experience here is limited. But I won't let go of the break dancing, or the gravity defiance.

  • @TheIncognitusMe What you call "break dancing" is actually part of existing sword play. It's more artistic though. My brother was an MMA fighter with experience in not only hand to hand, but weapon play. If you look at history break dancing as an art form was actually created from many artistic styles of martial arts. (The butterfly kick is a good example). You have to remember swordplay is an artform as well. The reason he spun is because he grabbed Nanakis wrist. If he had let go then Nanaki

  • @TheIncognitusMe would of been able to respond. Especially at such a close range. I admit that it probably would of been possibly for him to somehow end up with a killing blow there, but you also have to remember they're acting at a very fast rate. If you're in that situation you are bound to miss killing blows and chances to finish the battle. I will once again restate that the fighting style is based very heavily on many existing sword styles, but is not completely realistic in any way. :)

  • @realm087 "and I don't see any 'floating in mid-air'" He was falling, realm087, and pushed himself up from that position by STEPPING ON Nanaki and jumping. He propelled himself like 3 feet up at least 3 feet away from that position. I'm sorry, but this is a clown show JUST as much as Naruto or Bleach. No offense or anything, because I like this anime. I just am not going to pretend it's realistic, or "realisticer."

No sword fight has ever or would ever be anything like this.

  • @TheIncognitusMe Did I say the word realistic? Sorry I didn't notice.

  • @realm087 Saying it's possible is the same as saying it's realistic. And it isn't possible, AKA, isn't realistic.

To avoid any further confusion, I will just say that "it isn't possible," on top of it being unrealistic for a sword fight.

  • @TheIncognitusMe just that little double flip in the end is a bit too much I think...

  • @FuyumiHitsugaya

    "No superhuman strength"? Bullshit.

  • @St1gar ur an idiot, please tell me where u see superhuman strength here

  • @FuyumiHitsugaya damn straight !

  • @FuyumiHitsugaya NEARLY no supperhuman abilities- i dont think that this Jump at 3:14 ismakable without broken bones

  • @FuyumiHitsugaya for once someone who agrees with me no way....

  • This movie is truely inspiring. The craftsmanship in animation and the music make it an accomplishment that will endure for a long time.

  • Pure skill...none of that DBZ ki and super power BS you see in every shounen manga and anime nowadays. Nah, this showed that even fights with just pure swords skill can be incredibly epic and memorable.

  • NAMELESS!!!

  • Япошки проебали войну, слабаки

  • Rao... Jin-rao...

    Awesome ! XD

  • I've watched this scene too many times, and I still notice new things about it each time. At 2:24 Nanashi (who is obviously right handed uses his left hand. I wonder if it's because the animators mirrored the scece or to demonstrate how skilled and ambidextrous he is. I guess mirrored since Lang also uses left his left hand...

  • J'ai du faire 1/10ème des vues ! =D

  • great fight, haven't seen one like this since rurouni kenshin, and that was a loooong time ago

  • They need to make more anime just like this

  • does anybody else think of ken and ryu when they see this.

wouldnt it be awesome if it was their parents :O!

  • @FallenSabre who ? :o

  • @FatedVampire Street Fighter man.

  • @ravingvag69 never heard of it anyway :o

  • @FatedVampire Huh, it's a pretty influential fighting game... dont tell me you've never heard of Mortal Kombat? Tekken?

  • i dont get it why is a white guy from china?

  • @jetli80 the director confirmed that the guy is a foreigner

  • @jetli80 Ignorant much.

  • this movie is amazing. as soon as i saw this fight scene then the trailer i went out and bought it.. with in the hour.. if any one dislikes this movie. they have no ide what a good movie is

  • satisfaction :)

  • This is my study ground for animation. I never get tired of this fight scene!

  • Omg, i just never get tired of the last part of this movie. Sooooooo frkn awesome!

The fighting, the music, the visuals, the details for the actual martial arts, the wearing out of the swords.. frkn insane

  • I think this is the only Samurai movie where the final fight is between two non-Japanese. The blond guy is a European living in China and Nanashi has been hinted and confirmed by the director as a foreigner as well.

  • @leinad667 yea its kinda obvious because the guy has blond hair and looks different than the Japanese character gotta love these realistic anime

  • @leinad667

well judging both fighting styles id say its a samurai vs shaolin monk fight.

but as you said, both seem foreigners. Nanashi is actually mentioned in the movie, when he's dying his hair black instead of red-ish.

blondy looks european and actually has characteristics of the aryen race. which seems to find its routs in asia again. but thats just guessen btw, its never mentioned

leaving that asside, this just has to be one of my favourite samurai hero movies ever! frkn love it

  • Still doesn't compare to the OVA of Rurouni Kenshin.

  • One of the best samurai movies I have ever seen! the fight scenes are AMAZING!!!

  • 10 people think that chinese and japanese should never fight.

  • Truly beautiful

  • Would someone like to recommend me another anime to watch like this please :D

  • @Rufio0707 rurouni, blood+ ,bleach, basilisk

  • @Rufio0707 full metal alchemist brotherhood

  • thumbs up if the video moved slow because of how fast these two move

  • I would watch it many times...

    The animation is too cool...

  • this anime is so epic and has good quality that even on the lowest quality its still looks good

  • Omg i love this movie so frkn much!

The music and battle itself, might be the best ive seen in my personal anime history

  • Damn... that was nice. The fighting, the style, the elements of terrain they used in their battle. Never saw this anime before, but the sword fight was amazing 0_0

  • Why have I never heard of this? I must see.

  • That sword through the arm must have been a real bummer.

  • the blond guy fights like mougen from samurai champloo, but he shows more control and less flow...must be the hip hop

  • just bought this on DVD not knowing what to expect. Having not seen anime in while, this movie is a great comeback into japanese animation. great story, characters and visual animation. definitely worth the watch.

  • whers the explosive beam that comes outta his sword?

  • yeah!

very goood. wath is the name of this anime?

  • I love how they traded swords at the end.

  • He caught a sword with his hands? His ungloved hands? Bitch please.

  • @Annaleebie He caught it on the sides of the blade with his palms.

  • @impyshmimpy its a shame that catching a katana bare handed like he did is impossible...

they pretty much proved that in mythbusters and plus the cold in the scene made the swords very slippery.

  • @TheVrdlfe its not impossible a martial artist who may have trained to the peak of the mental and physical ability and may have mastery over a swordmanship could technically stop a blade look at this guy even though its an anime ,the idea isnt impossible but im pretty sure no one we be able to get out of a situation like that without there hands bleeding. But if its the only way out of a situation i have a 50-50 chance of clasping my hands delivering friction and just timing it right to stop it.

  • @milontua good luck

  • @milontua Dude you just watched too many movie , with the friction like that it will probably tear off your hand's skin and then cut into the flesh in the lower part of your palm.

  • @chantakzee I never said that if you were in a situation like that that you wouldnt get out without having some kind of injury. But catching a blade is not impossible the amount of focus and tension in a situation can bring ppl to do amazing things that they probably would not ever do , not saying id do it ,but like if it were my only shot to get out of a deadly situation then i would do it. If i succeded though. As i said before 50-50 chance, ive seen people do some amazing shit i have no doubt.

  • @milontua Mythbusters busted it, but you could probably sacrifice a hand in exchange for your life...

  • @7en6estu anything is possible , as far as im concerned thats just a show 50-50 chance.

  • @7en6estu yea... I wouldn't place too much trust in mythbusters. Half the time they don't even properly test things.

  • @7en6estu yea... I wouldn't place too much trust in mythbusters. Half the time they don't even properly test things.

  • Damnit this still give me chills, awesome anime.

  • The music is pretty awesome too...makes the fight so much more Epic...

  • one of the best sword fight scene in anime..

  • holyshit the best fight i have seen in a while

  • 2:31 my favorite part..

  • I love how they take some realism of a sword fight. Especially how the swords eventually break if you constantly clash edge-to-edge.

  • maybe is teh blonde guy a descendant from the scythian empire......!! they life too in central asia and was too blonde and blue eyed.........

  • I like how the environment is used to heavily in this fight. Even in how they move the snow is taken into account and how slippery it is, both characters use it to their advantage and use it to glide along during the fight

  • This is so beautiful and breathtaking.

Goergeous art, heart-clenching music and realistic swordmanship.

    How perfect!

  • 7 people cant find thair sword

  • they dont make movies like this anymore nowadays is just about emo haircuts and semi naked girls ...not tht im complaining im just saying

  • @Vittor066 you do relise this movie was made in 2008 right?

  • @jsh020 ya now its 2011

  • @Vittor066 iff you really think thats a large enough passage of time to say they dont make em like they used to then you really need to get your timing in check, making like they used to would have to refer to a time where everything has changed, anime has stayed exactly the same for about the past 5 years, also heads up that emo thing died out a looooooong time ago, that was int he early 00's, moe is the thing thats everywhere in anime now

  • @jsh020 r u fkin kiddin me , cmon dude ur gonna tell me the animes or mangas from now are still the same from 5 years ago , cmon..i dont wanna argue on the internet but i gotta make my point

  • @Vittor066 it is the same dude, animes have been the same for a long time now, it was around 03 that everything started to blend together, only ifference is that some studios still try to be different such as BONES(they made this, eureka 7, FMA ext) and brains base keep things orignal, when you look at the lists of animes that come out everything is a slice of life romance moe,

saying its been the same is a lie now cause 2010 and 11 is where its all changing for the better,

  • @jsh020 yea i kinda give u tht one...u got a point lol

  • @Vittor066 im sick of these slice of life romances, i love romance and all but really it seems like clannad was the only one that got the school life clice of life thing right,

also you better be watching tiger and bunny, its airing right now but god dman is i good, it starts off just being a comedy about superheroes selling out and then it progressivly gets better and better till its actually kinda a drama action mystery, its animated by sunrise so it uses a little to much cgi for comfort :/

  • @jsh020 hm ...rite now im concentratin in naruto and bleach but fuck bleach is in its gay ass filler so im not watching it ..so tiger and bunny huh ..ill give it a try bro

  • @Vittor066 oh god you still put up with bleach and naruto, you poor soul, yah tiger and bunny is the best of the season, well last season, it started in spring

my first reaction to my freind saying it was the best of the seaosn goes a little somthing like this

"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU"

Then i actually watched the first episode and it was entertaining and pretty fun, then the next episode was legitmently good, then they intoduce the first plot point in ep 3, by then youl be hooked

  • @jsh020 lol alrite ill give it a shot

  • @Vittor066 i love how we were arguing like a day ago and now were just kinda talking now, gotta love youtube,

but yah just keep in mind the first ep of tiger is just kinda "duh fuck" worthy, also if you havnt checked it out yet try durarara, i just finished it today and it was just fucking amazing, and if you like dubs than its also a damn good dub, its not like baccano where the dub just completly destroys the sub in every way but the dub for durarara is on the same level as the japenese

  • @jsh020 LOL OK OK ill see it , damn llol ..bro add me i sended u a request

  • @Vittor066 i dont pay attention to freinds on youtube, i litterly habe 57 unanswered requests, if you wanna keep in cotact get a profile on somthing called myanimelist(dot)net

ill answer your freind request but i dont pay any attention to them, also if you have a skype, steam, 360, or ps3 i also have those, im kinda omni

  • So....who won?

  • @Crossbones6732 Nanashi won

  • @detre07 And for us idiots who failed to watch the movie, (hangs head in shame) Nanashi is the dark haired one or the blond one?

  • @Crossbones6732 Dark one.Watch the anime it's awesome

  • @Crossbones6732

dark haired. It means "no name" i think. But watch the movie, it's definately worth it!

  • epic.

  • The snow is square!

  • A excellant film. Great fights, the art and animation are top quality but for the love of god, dont watch the english dub, its just bad.

  • Defenately one of the best anime. Up there with avarar.

  • This is one of the best animes, ever. I'm watching it over and over and falling in love with the softness and strong heart of No-name. The interaction between him and the boy is just wonderfull and so honestly portraied, and the movements in the animation is stunning. The characters actually seem to have weight and can feel the force of something hitting them, or the thud when they land after a fall. (sorry my english is so bad :/ )

  • this is epic

  • It's amazing how much personality is packed into every movement of the characters, from the unnecessarily flashy, egotistical flips and turns Luo Lang exhibits, to the grim face of the concentrated Nanashi, and down to the very ways they wield their swords. The best thing about it was that the personalities were conveyed without mindless telling.

Oddly, my favourite part was the moment at 0:54, when Nanashi was warming up his hands in preparation for the fight. I could literally feel the frost.

  • 5 people had blood in their eyes

  • This scene could give a girl a boner and give a boner a super boner

  • anyone know any good fighting animes of similar quality?

  • @mazin2892

    samurai champloo.

  • @TheVrdlfe Thanks this is pretty good!

and do you know any 'hand to hand' fighting animes...

  • why isnt naruto helping sauske?

  • @FunwithDolls SO FAHNNY JOKE! XD

  • @FunwithDolls loooooooooool

  • The story is a little cliched with little to no character development or other plot devices. But this movie was still one of the greatest movie I've seen because the entire movie was a build up to this inevitable showdown between Luo-Lang and nanashi. The movie greatly focused on the Luo-Lang's and nanashi's character. It gave us enough information to deeply understand the mind set and skill of these two warriors and to the reason why this fight is the epitome of an epic showdown.

  • lets get real here folks i'm pretty shure we all need to calm down and watch all 3 hours of 7 samuria again beacue that is the onle thing better than this

  • @the8lbfish WRONG NOTHING IS BETTER THAN THIS!

  • I liked the part where the two strongest swordsmen in a Japanese cartoon were technically both Westerners.

  • @asdfers if you like that, then watch afro samurai, hellsing ultimate, or supernatural the animation. those are some bad mofo westerners=)

  • on of the best choreographed fight every in anime :).......i wish to be this good.

  • Does anyone know a good anime movie like this / similar pls let me know thx

  • @AnTiLl11 Yeah me too!

  • @AnTiLl11 when you ask for something similar to sword of the stranger, do you mean samurais, or do you mean no stupid comedy, girls being panty shot, and emo kids? if your looking for something WITHOUT the last 3: hellsing ultimate, afro samurai, supernatural:the animation, and thats about it. i seriously hate what has happened to anime in the last 10 years. sure, the animation is much better, but everything else about it sux=(

  • @MrTheguywithalife thanks for youre reply m8 i meant about samurais i'va watch afro samurai already it wasn't bad ill take a look at the other twos thanks

sorry for the bad english :P

  • @AnTiLl11 if you like samurais, you might like samurai 7. its kinda older, so the animations a bit boring at times, but some of the fights look really good, and the story is very unique as well=)

  • @MrTheguywithalife Guess you haven't watch Trust and Betrayal...

  • @AwfulUser oh yeah you mean the rurouni kenshin movies...man, trust, betyral, and reflection were good, but i HATED rurouni kenshin. i can see why it was popular. it was created in the late 80's and was probably the first anime WITHOUT giant robots or super sayans, but still, the animation of today far surpasses it...however, i hear there MAKING A RUROUNI KENSHIN REMAKE!!! that i will most definetly watch=)

  • @MrTheguywithalife Samurai 7 is one of the most boring anime ever, it kept using the same boring music and the fight scenes were horrible, even the storyline and its characters wasnt very good.

  • The floor covered in snow was slippery.

The wooden structure made it possible for the brunnete guy felt from pretty high without dying and the blonde jumped down without serious injure.

And the most interesting detail: their swords were chipped down and were broken by the fight. You can really notice cracks on their swords.

After that fight, both of them sweated like pigs.

  • @blminhduc cool story bro

  • The brunette guy- nanashi was exhausted because of the run and other previous fights. The reason keeping him on his feet and fighting was protecting the child. Maybe he also wanted to fight the blonde guy.

There were many possible explanation for the small break in the middle of the fight. Stop for enjoying the feeling, damages checking, regaining the rhymes, read the opponent, and maybe, the blonde guy wanted to give his opponent a small rests.

3 The physical effects were realistic also.

  • Comment removed

  • Other battles in this anime ended pretty fast due to the gap of experiences between other fighters.

    2. Psychological speaking, the expressions of the two characters were good. And the battle rhymes matched it well. The blonde guy, an exeptional swordman who had never been cut before, enjoyed fighting only. This battle might be something he had been waiting for ages. Thats why when he fought it, he fought instinctively and carelessly. For the sake of enjoying the adrenaline.

  • Comment removed

  • The fight may have been exaggerated a little bit at some point-common, its entertainmnet, but it was realistic as much as it could be.

    1. Both of them were veteran. That explains how they moved constantly like that. Because they were equally skillful and experienced... so they could not end it in one or two slashes. So... whenever they felt they were dominated by the opponent, they ran or moved away to regain their rhymes. And you can see that Nanashi - the brune guy was running away more often

  • I have to say, this was one of the most under-rated movie at it's time, and movie's like Bolt and Kung Fu Panda took it's rightful place in the Awards.

For those saying DBZ / Bleach is more "realistic" I can't understand how you thin that as in the whole series, I admit, thee may have been 2-3 fights without all the unnecessary 'Staring, Flashbacks, Talking e.t.c' The fight was also very fluid, and most entertaining.

Not criticizing other anime's, just expressing my opinion.
