I used to be stationed at FT. Eustis, located off of the James River in Newport News, VA, and when I took leave (vacation), I would drive on I-64 to I-664, and hop on U.S-58; heading west-bound to link up with I-95 in Emporia, VA.
Side note: If you headed east on I-64 and exited the HRBT, off to the right you could see the aircraft carriers that were docked at Norfolk Naval Base.
I knew the video was sped up and I did not say make a video of the entire beltway, I only suggested a little faster cause you cut out some of the exits. I did not mean to touch a nerve I only meant to give a constructive opinion as resident by the beltway. I'm sorry, your video was great, thumbs up.
@hroperator No problem, I wasn't trying to make a video of the entire beltway at that time I had just come from the CBBT and wanted a video with footage of the HRBT and the MMBT. Also, sometimes I have to leave out exits if they are too close together, on more recent videos (in HD) I only note major exits. I had time constraints on that day as well.
I think if you are going to make a video out of the beltway, then speed it up a bit faster to get all of the beltway and do not cut corners by cutting out exits.
@hroperator I wasn't trying to make a video out of the whole beltway, just this particular section I was traveling. Plus it is sped up. Why don't you ask before making such assumptions?
Back when I lived in Northern Virginia I would take I-64 to go to williamsburg,Yorktown,Jamestown,Bush Garderns,Water Country USA and Virginia Beach back in the 90's
How about have these Opphans from 1999 Annie pile up in a station wagon,I would have Alicia Morton & Sarsh Hyland up front & the rest of the other girls in the back of the car.We would be on I 64 going through the Hampton roads Bridge Tunnle.
hi, i like so much your videos, i'm planning so one day maybe i come to states and drive allalong these roads, i'm from europe; do you have a vid with miami-key west road? can you post the playlist used, please, the music is just great;
Is that why there aren't many videos of NYC? I see a lot of pictures though. There are some cool videos of Chicago on here. Your videos of D.C., it seems like D.C. itself was like an in and out thing the majority of the route going through NoVa and Maryland.
freeway representing hampton roads! i'm intrigued by the system, particularly newport news, VB and norfolk, three isn't much to see on the sides of the roads for a lot of it though. do you have akron, oh?
When you were in the Hampton Roads area shooting this video footage, did you ever find it difficult to drive momentarily, when you exited out of driving through any of the freeway tunnels? I definitely could imagine at times it could be occasionally blinding(the sunlight), when you finish driving through one of those freeway tunnels.
Never mind of course maybe to me it only seemed that it could be occasionally difficult, since you always speed up your driving footage in your videos.
No, I never had any problems at all with that. One big reason may be that because we were filming I tried to make sure the sun was behind us most of the time. I can see where what you are talking about could be an issue.
The tunnels seem quite steep when you are coming out of them.
Nice work as usual.
In the US, do normal-Joes refer to the roads by their number (eg "Take exit 5 on I-64"), or just us road geeks. It's not very common in Australia for ppl to refer to the road by the Route Number. Mostly they're known by the name (eg "Bruce Highway").
A signal and drive in a straight line! What's that?

Interesting! It looks a bit different to when I filmed it in 1987. Have a look at my version and tell me what you think.

I've never been to Akron before, so no I don;t have footage from there.

oh okay, well i know you've been to New York, L.A., I'd like to see footage of those towns if it all possible. thanks for the vids!

So would I.
LA is too far and while I have driven through NY City many times it is not a video friendly city.

Most folks here in the US do refer to Exit number and Road number, sometimes the name of the highway too, just depends on the region or city.

Cool choice for using a song from A Flock of Seagulls. I love that band, and was fortunate enough to see them live last year!
The drive was interesting too, especially since I saw several boats off of the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge + Tunnel at the end of the video.
prfsnlwannabe 3 years ago
It took me over an hour to come up with a song for that drive, the tempo of this tune really worked IMO.
You'd have seen boats off the CBBT in that video had it been clear.
Freewayjim 3 years ago
Nice drive. Love the tunnels and the bridges.
