if you can't find the stranger anywhere at anytime you may have entered the "white moth" temple or something like that, if thats the case, The stranger will become the grey fox (sorry if i spoiled anything)

do all the quest's involveing the theives guild then look for the Grey fox in Bruma (i think) he will send you to the white moth temple, afterwards he will revert back into The stranger, and he can resume the quest.

thats what i did, i hope iv been helpfull, if im wrong, im sorry =/

The stranger is in the County Hall sitting on a bench near the Countess of Anvil EVERY MORNING, and in the AFTERNOONS and EVENINGS he is in the Abandoned House, which is a small, boarded up house across the street from the North gate. (The abandoned house is to the right of the Anvil Mages Guild).

ok, ok. listen, this is important. I did the thieves guild quests out of order. I visited temple of moths, so I started (and completed) turning a blind eye. I read on uesp.net that I need to do the quests in order, so I went back to start some of the others. Amusei ran up to me and started arrow of extrication. I went back to do taking care of lex first, and the stranger is not in the house, because of arrow of extrication which puts stranger, (gray fox), in chorrol. So how do I fix this on xbox

@sartorius97 Talk to S'Krivva about it, she will tell you not to talk to her again until it's done (this is merely dialogue, she will still talk to you). After you have spoken to her, go to The Stranger, don't talk to him, and use the wait option to wait 24 hours. Talk to him, and he should be finished with it. If that doesn't work let me know. I have a few more ideas.

Have you activated the quest 'Turning A Blind Eye'? Sometimes you can activate this by accident just by finding the Temple of the Ancestor Moths. You need to complete that quest before the 'Stranger' will appear in his house. If you decide to complete the 'Turning A Blind Eye' quest be sure to finish all the other quests in order or you will encounter a bug in the last thieves guild quest.

you have to wait at least 24 hours! if you have spoken to him before 24 hours passed the quest bugs and you can't get the letter. so load game and do this again

poor Lex, when the thieves guilds quests are finished, the original gray fox becomes the count of Anvil, while Lex has become the new Anvil guard captain. Lex doesnt know it, but he now actually serves the Gray Fox he originally tried to catch lol. If he knew he would be pissed

Yeah... Sneaking is so boring! I went in there swords everywhere killing everyone : ) It ruins the game cause you cant complete other quests but DAMN its hell fun! and if you cant afford the 500 gold your a amatuer :P Use the dupe trick ( just get 2+ = the more the better = scrolls of any kind and press A or X which ever console you use then go to an item then drop it! and you duplicated it! Kidan a game spoiler lol but it helps : )

Aww.... When I said "taking care" I was all psyched up to do this Dark Brotherhood style. Thieves guild is too cautious about this stuff. One arrow or 12 minutes of gameplay... if it were up to me I'd just shoot him.
