Funny thing is, child sacrifice was very common in the time of this Bible story, and the whole point of this "test" was God showing everyone that he DIDN'T want child sacrifice to happen - you know, by providing a ram to kill instead. :P
@29DragonGirl Except God told people to kill their children other times too, and he made them follow through. He also condones slavery and shit so, whatever.
@Mullahgrrl This is absolutely false. No matter how minimalist your interpretation of the Bible, Herodotus mentions circumcisions in Palestine, so if it didn't start among the Jews until some five centuries later it's a pretty massive coinkydink.
"Like I have any chance of forming an independant basis of right and wrong outside the instructions of some supervisory being, no Lord, I am your bitch." Literally could not say this better myself.
Haha its an obvious parody on how stupid religious fundamentalists are (cough america cough), but too bad most of them wont even get that cuz theyr so ignorant.

obviously ridiculous, cuz 1 Jews were historically the best educated and had Jews in power in Babylonia,Persia,Greece,Rome etc., and second sacrifice of an animal was common, but only human sacrifice in Egypty, and Mayan/Aztec culture, but nobody ever complains or makes...but only reveres those cultures, but why is judeo-christian belief always the first and only to be made to look silly..but totally missing the point and historically disingenuous...
Because that's the religion we have around today which is trying to force it's backwards ideas onto rational people. If people were following any of those ancient faiths, those would be the ones to be fought against.
Also, comments are made about all the religions, but naturally the most comments are made about the one dominating in our society.
@IoEstasCedonta when were they under pagan rule? before christianity, most of the dominant religions were polytheist, or rarely monotheist, and almost none of them were pagan.
@IoEstasCedonta A religion revolving around the worship of nature? The Christian bastardization of the word is analogous to heathen, or anyone who isn't of the Judeo-Chriistian-Islamic persuasion but that's not what it means.
@vazhkatsi Nnnno, that's exactly what it means. Based on the "City of God" metaphor, Christians in antiquity began calling non-Christians, especially Hellenes, "pagani," or "rural"; "heathen" arose identically and contemporaneously from a Germanic root, so what one does or doesn't mean, so the other. The word has never in broad usage referred specifically to nature worship, and certainly not originally.
In Islam He is called Ibrahim and is pretty much exactly the same as he is in the bible. Jesus is also mentioned more often by name then Mohammed in the Koran, mostly because Mohammed is usually called "The Prophet" or something along those lines.
