  • What in the world?!?!?!?!?! How is this possible on the nes???? Did you see the bullets spit out by the boss at the end of this level???? The graphics!!!!! Amazing!!!! David want!!!!!!!!!

  • @davidchenault This is the power of Famicom.

  • @MrNorbert1994 No ways I bet that cart had some kinda extra chip or something.

  • You can get a repro of this game at timewalkgames, just look it up in google. Totally worth it.

  • Recca is an absolute 8-bit programming marvel. I find it amazing how Naxat pushed the NES/Famicom to its outer limits like this. That type of programming capability is pure artistry imo! :D

  • @MENDEZ1628 They kinda cheated because there's a special chips inside the cart, probably boosting the number of mhz or something like that.

  • On the NES? HOLEEE SHIT!!

  • Bullet Hell on the NES at that speed with graphics like that?!

Damn, Naxat Soft sure knew how to optimize their code!

  • Apparently this game is based on the Dezaemon shmup maker engine.

  • The NES could do Bullet Hells? Why wasn't I aware of this?

  • i busted up one joypad till i finished this game, then i saw there is even a harder challenge when you reset game at the -the end- screen, then i busted another joypad, but i successfully finished the game,i was so proud, great game...

  • Looks like a SNES game, but it's on the NES!

  • Omg.

This looks so awesome, you could aswell think it comes straight out from the DS title (Retro Game Challenge).

  • THIS GAME IS JUST SO %S AWESOME!!!

I spent many hours playing it on a console and couldn't find it on the internet for 7 years! When I got to play it again it was indescribable feeling!

THIS IS SO MUCH MORE AWESOME THAN TOUHOU!!

Best game on NES! Superior graphics and cool techno music (not featured in game mode shown in this video).

  • If you like this- check out ReccaNes.Net .The quality on those things is great : )

  • You say no slowdown, but there's clear slowdown at the 55 seconds mark. Still, play it on Wii if it botehrs you I guess.

  • Holy fuck, this looks hard!

  • So did the top players get a copy to own? I assume that wouldn't be the grand prize, but they must have given some out.

  • This game is so much WIN!

  • The Famicom and Super Famicom still manages to surprise me with titles such as these. That's why I still cherish the 8-16 bit area so much. Such a great game and such funky music ^-^.

  • Does this game only come as a cartidge? Or do complete copies exist?

  • There is a complete version, however it's extraordinarily rare - the complete package often fetches more than $500 when one does pop up.

  • I wouldn't say it pushes the Famicom. I think the term of pushing is correct, when games achieve things with more simple mappers.

  • Is there a ROM for this game?

  • I call those konami's tentacles! LOL

  • That's a pirate cart you have there, my friend! Most pirates are either mutli-carts like yours, or what's called 'ROM hacks', where they try to disguise the piracy by replacing characters or other graphics with art ripped from other Famicom games.

  • A buddy made this game for me. Gray cartridge, works in the USA nes player. It's awesome. Only beat the first bad guy thus far.

  • I was testing out random roms today and found this, not expecting a shmup from the title. But OMG it's great! Hooked immediately!

  • I'm playing this for a week or so on emulator and I'm stunned... It's a "hidden gem" for me, how come this game is not more famous ???

It's not THAT hard, it's playable, and can be played in varios ways/styles ^.^

Anyone knows MORE fantastic RARE Nes games?

    Not only shooters :D

  • If you want to play a really impressive Famicom game that was commercially available, (in Japan) try Gradius II ...No I don't mean Life Force / Salamander, I mean the actual Gradius II, which used the Konami VRC4 chip. It allowed the Famicom to push audio & visuals usually reserved for 16-bit games.

  • Flawless my ass :p There's slowdown and flicker galore just in those two minutes. But it's pretty mad nonetheless - I didn't know there were games like this made for the NES.

  • That's 'fast and furious', and 'not for beginners'?

  • And are you the champion of all shooting games?

Bear in mind that this is just the first level, not ideal grounds for sh*t hitting the fan.

  • Sorry, I just thought your comment was a bit big-headed. Ah well, I'm done arguing.

BTW, DoDonPachi's difficulty level is second nature to me. Although I do die a fair bit, so I'm no champion.

Also, don't forget Guwange. Man, Cave are geniuses.

  • Please stop broadcasting to the world what a tremendous ultranoob you are about shooting games.

People who can probably score twenty times what you can in DoDonPachi really like and revere Recca because it's a damn good game.

  • Even after a year your stupid comment is annoying people.. Listen here pants boy, Donpachi is a great game and an awesome series, but Recca is probably the first ever manic shooter - no Recca, no DonPachi. You can't compare the two and go "Lol, Recca's so rubbish because its old" - to do so is VERY small minded, anyway. In the future a snotty nosed kid will say "DoDonpachi? Lol, what a pile of shit!" just because its an "old" game - will you agree with him?

  • And emulators don't capture the same feel of playing the Famicom. Not even playing it on an American NES captures that same feel.

  • Yeah that's so true that's why I had to get me a copy of Recca to play in my Famicom.

  • You have a copy? Damn! You must be happy.

  • I'm another Famicom owner, but I only got the base console, no power adapters or RF cables.

    Damn, I'm jealous. ;~;

  • I own 2 Famicoms. One is my collector's system, and the other is going to be A\V modded. The collector system is white (and a 1984 revision), and the other is yellowed (it is also 1984).

  • Imagine if this hadn't stayed in Japan. Imagine if this had been around at the time Sega was pushing its "Blast Processing" BS. Now imagine Nintendo mopping the floor with Sega.

  • Hey, I like Sega!!!!! But I do agree about blast processing. If "blast processing" isn't an outright lie, than the CD-i Zelda series was good.

  • Pity Sega had the better shooters outside of this one! The Power Strike games play every bit as well as this.

  • Reminds me of Progear

  • um.. emulators -_- geez, c'mon people

  • One of, if not the rarest Famicom game, ever. And that's not counting the gold disks. Favorited. :)

  • This game really frustrates me, I don't know any strategy for it. It's so cool though.

  • That music is trippy.
